I went in today to buy bread that was the plan.. I ended up buying a sandwich, a scone, latte and 2 loaves of bread.. the smell is incredible and everything is so fresh and tempting! Sour bread is amazing I ate most of it before I got home.. there is plenty of free street parking! This bakery is within walking distance from us and I have no idea why it took us so long to check it out. We walk by it all the time and finally decided to go in on a Saturday afternoon. I got a breakfast sandwich ($7) for my husband and I to share and I got my husband a Nanaimo bar ($4) as it's one of his favourite desserts. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and my husband loved the Nanaimo bar. The breakfast sandwich was vegetarian and had a thick potato croquette as the main filling. It also had pickles, tomatoes and a delicious sauce. It was served cold, but the bun was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Talk about fresh! It was so tasty. I will be dreaming about that breakfast sandwich! I had a small taste of the Nanaimo bar and it was good. It was very sweet, but not overly so, for what it is. The chocolate and cream layer were soft and velvety and the bottom layer had a good texture with all the shredded coconut. I don't love Nanaimo bars but I can appreciate a well made one. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The space is small and it's takeout only. They sell drinks as well as baked goods. They have lots of breads. I have definitely found my new favourite breakfast sandwich place! Oh did I mention their breakfast sandwich is delicious? Lol. I was skeptical about a cold breakfast sandwich, and admittedly it didn't look that delicious, but I'm glad I took the chance. Street parking only. read more

it was quite good! the pastry was flaky, the berries were nice and the pastry cream was pretty good as well. I just don't know if I love the design of the Danish? I wish something was done with the knots at the end. but regardless the center with the berries was really great! I have been coming to Bread by Us for at least 3 years. This is a super bakery. The staff are great and friendly. Jesse the owner is such a good merchant. I only buy my bread there. I usually pick up some croissants or danishes. Everything is so damn tasty . If you haven't tried them yet I highly recommend that you do. You won't regret it. Jesse puts out a weekly newsletter and I so look forward to receiving it. read more

I had been waiting for the longest time to check this place out and noticed that they had reopened again after closing for a while, I assume due to covid 19 closures. I picked up an almond croissant and a loaf of sour dough bread. I will officially say that this will now be the only place I buy sourdough bread from. I know the $7 price tag for bread might have some of you saying that it's too much for bread .....but let me tell you this. If I had a budget per month of $7 for bread, I would buy this bread once a month and not eat any other bread for the other 29 days. Yes, it's that good. The outside.... crunchy, the inside - a perfect balance of flavour, softness and fullness!! Why am I raving on about bread? Because it great bread....... And I love great bread. Fresh -baked daily sourdough is delicious - the aroma is captivating and their pizza- like focaccia difficult to resist. I have enjoyed their fruit crostini, pumpkin and goat cheese as well as Earl Grey scones! All delicious! read more

Bread By Us is a delicious addition to Hintonburg. I wasn't sure that the atmosphere would be inviting, as it's nestled in the same building as a pharmacy, but the space is warm and welcoming. I've tried the country sourdough and the pain au lait, both of which I enjoyed. My only issue is with the small loaves, that they barely last a day - so I pretty much only pick up the large loaves now. And I always ask for my bread to be sliced, which they happily do for me each time. I sampled the lunch tomato & cheese focaccia as well, and it was great - not too greasy, and filling enough for a quick lunch. There is a daily tea on offer to sample and a board that displays suspended items that others have purchased - from americanos to a sourdough loaves, these are items that anyone can ask for, free of charge. From the ever-growing list that I see whenever I go in, there are lots of people buying the items, but not as many people taking advantage of a loaf of bread that's already been purchased for them. It would be great if they let more people know about the suspended program, as you pretty much have to ask what the list is for, or otherwise be in the know. All in all, this has become my new favourite bakery, and one I happily frequent whenever the breadbox is empty. read more

Stopped by here today for a coffee with a friend and have to say I quite liked it. The latte I ordered was very good (made with Happy Goat Coffee) and my friend enjoyed his Americano. In terms of taste, it is more in line with Bridgehead than Starbucks or Second Cup. I also tried out some of there sweets with a cinnamon bun/pastry and a chocolate type croissant. The cinnamon pastry was nice though a little heavy on the cinnamon. I also picked up as loaf of their sourdough bread (nice and hot and smells great... hopefully it tastes good as well). They have a very small menu of sandwiches which I didn't try, plus of course their breads (mainly sourdough breads), their sweets (pastries and cookies) and coffees and teas. It is a small shop with one table, a couple of chairs, and a few seats at the coffee bar. Prices seem reasonable to me with the bread about $4 per loaf. Parking is available on the street. Anyhow, I quite liked what I had and I would go back again if the bread is good. read more

This is one of my favourite bakeries in the National Capital Region and this based on the pastry. Their selection of pastries is limited but the ones I have had to date were excellent. I had a cinnamon danish recently and loved it. Today, I had a plain croissant. It was excellent too. It was flaky without being so flaky it would break apart yet the center was buttery and substantial. I also had a cappuccino which was well made. They also offer sandwiches with seed to sausage products and carry some local coffee beans and jellies/jams such as Michael Dolce's). I have not had the opportunity to try the bread yet but am looking forward to it. read more

Their bread and pastries are consistently fresh and on high demand - during busy seasons like Christmas, they recommend pre-ordering your favourite loaves to ensure that you get what you want. While they produce a good variety of different loaves, their products are made according to a schedule (check their site) so some breads are not available everyday. Bread By Us is a small shop situated next to a pharmacy on Wellington. There is a small bar for those who want to dine in but it is primarily a take out spot. They serve coffee from the Happy Goat Co., in addition to selling a small variety of their beans. I've tried their foccacia ($5) and their cinnamon snail ($3). Both items were fantastic. Each time I've had the foccacia, it was always warm and fresh out of the oven. The crust is crispy and the interior is moist and springy. The best way to describe the cinnamon snail is that it's the love child between a croissant and a cinnamon bun. It is incredibly flaky and indulgent without being too sweet. #treatyoself and pick up a loaf...or two. read more

I live in California and wanted to send my mother (92) who lives in Ottawa a treat and came across this Gem. The staff are so helpful and responsive to emails, what a pleasure it is to do business with them (Milisa is the best). I ordered the mixed box of pastries and chose the delivery option and it went without a hitch. My mum was so thrilled to get a food gift, who wouldn't after looking at their selection on-line! A week later I followed up with a loaf of whole wheat along with two jars of jam and batting 1000, both are her new favorites. I Highly recommend Bread by Us, so I glad I found it online. read more

The baked goods are very good, if a little on the pricey side. Still, they are worth it if that is all you are seeking. As to the coffee, it was horrible. After paying for it and leaving the location I simply had to throw it away. It was bitter and a bitter disappointment. If you want the baked goods, 100% go here, if you want coffee McDonald's is better. read more

This is my first time visitng this little bakery and I'm enamored. Walked in with 15 minutes until close and they let me order and eat in with no worries. Super chill atmosphere with local coffee and goods for take home. I had a drink which I can only describe as heaven. They called it French Toast--a steamed milk with maple syrup and nutmeg. Delish. Rounded that off with a sandwich made with bakery fresh bread and brie. I'll be coming back. read more

Bread By Us is a little hard to find - they share a vestibule with a pharmacy. So you might end up walking past it a few times before you figure out where it is! Got a brioche loaf and a "snail" pastry. Both were delicious! The prices were very reasonable for artisanal bread. Staff was friendly and the space is cool and inviting. I'm new to the area, but this has quickly become my favourite bakery. All the bread is delicious but I'm especially fond of the focaccia.

Stumbled in here one freezing cold winter day. I must have walked past this place a million times and never noticed it, until I did a Yelp search for a coffee place. They do have a chalk board sign out on the sidewalk, but maybe a bigger one would help? Anyway, I loved the atmosphere, smell and coziness of the place. I got a coffee (served in my favourite Le Crueset mug) and the cinnamon snail. They were both really delicious and fresh. The breads and pastries looked amazing, I can't wait to go back there and try more things out. The service was also very friendly. The only thing I would mention is the limited seating, I wish there was more space, but given the small establishment it's to be expected. I am not sure if they put out patio furniture in the summer or not... That would be nice. Would definitely come back here again! read more

I am lucky enough to be treated to some brought-home pastries from this little gem almost every weekend morning. I'm pretty picky about my croissants, and theirs do not disappoint. Flaky, buttery yet light, and wonderfully done. Their savoury croissants, meat and cheese, are delicious. The chocolate was also great, with the chocolate balanced throughout and not overly sweet. For breakfast-dessert we like the chocolate chip cookie, which wasn't chocolate chip at all but seemed to be shaved semisweet chocolate throughout -- WAY better than just chips and more balanced than chunks! Yesterday, I finally made it to Bread By Us after having heard of them recently. I purchased a baguette, a croissant, and 6 sesame topped buns (pain au lait version). I was reluctant about the buns as they all appeared kind of dark, and chose a bag which had at least a few that seemed golden in color. The baguette while fresh was more of an Italian bread in taste similar to what one might find at Walmart. Baguette is the true story teller of all micro bakeries, and this one was uninspired. The croissant while not flaky, was butter to be sure, yet more bread-like in consistency. But it IS about the buns. Upon arriving home, it became clear 4 of the six were BURNT on top. The other two which topped the package (hiding the other 4), while lighter had that odious burnt flavour throughout. Inedible. I wrote the owner Jessica Carpinone, who immediately responded with an incredibly insulting email defending her work. I responded in kind by sending her an image of the burnt delicacies (which I wish I could post here). Average quality at best, with arrogant management. Spend your dollars elsewhere. read more
