My experience with Adara Communities has been profoundly disappointing. After completing high school, my parents gifted me an apartment at Brays Village Apartments in Houston, Texas. Regrettably, from the very first week, I faced numerous challenges, including harassment and racism from both neighbors and management. For example, shortly after moving in, my younger brother went outside to play in the open field, which was later transformed into a gazebo. He was confronted by an Asian child who rudely asked him, "What are you doing here? Your kind doesn't belong here." Distressed, my brother returned to me, and I attempted to report the incident to the child's mother, but I could not find her. In the weeks that followed, I dealt with unfounded complaints from management, as neighbors below alleged that I or my guests had littered their porch, despite a lack of evidence. The young woman living beneath me and her mother would ridicule me after making these accusations. At night, they would bang on the walls and ceilings with broomsticks while I tried to move quietly to avoid disturbing them. Despite my hopes for improvement, my situation only deteriorated.
During a grocery shopping trip with my parents, property managers Maria Martinez and Katie Yunez entered my apartment without notice and took $1,500 that I had saved for rent, which was on my entertainment cabinet. When I questioned their unauthorized entry, they claimed they had the right to do so. I subsequently filed a police report, and they left an eviction notice on my table, which they later confirmed. I have video evidence of these incidents. Throughout this ordeal, I consistently made my rent payments on time through automatic transactions. However, I began to feel increasingly unwell during my time there, initially attributing it to stress. Weeks later, I discovered that the mold had returned, this time more severely. We contacted the corporate office, and their representative, Poonam Tiwari, arrived and behaved unprofessionally.
The situation escalated when I was accused of being responsible for the mold issue, leading to a confrontational exchange with my aunt and Tiwari , Poonam directed her cleaning team to apply bleach to the mold, but it reappeared shortly thereafter. Additionally, she inaccurately stated that Maria had described my aunt as disruptive during her visits. My primary focus is on my work and paying my rent, and I believe the mold problem originated from what my parents and I had discovered. Poonam insisted that I utilize her relative, a mold specialist, which raised my suspicions, prompting me to refuse. She then stated that I could not hire my own licensed specialist. I am aware of my rights, and she warned me that if the issue was not mold, I would incur a $750 fee. Conversely, if the tests indicated mold, I would have the option to terminate my lease without penalty. I subsequently engaged a licensed specialist who, upon inspection, quickly identified the substance as mold. He collected samples and sent them to a laboratory in Katy, which confirmed a significant mold presence. The lab results I received led to a highly charged situation. I received a notice from management stating that I owed $100 because my little brother allegedly broke a brick, a claim I have recorded evidence to dispute. Subsequently, I received another notice demanding that I vacate the premises immediately and accused me of disloyalty for seeking external assistance, all of this occurring at 10 PM.
In response, I drafted my 30-day notice to vacate and submitted it to the front office. On the same day, I spoke with Kate, who informed me that there would be no need for the 30-day notice since we had agreed on a month-to-month payment arrangement after my lease expired. She assured me that everything was in order, yet she still accepted my 30-day notice, stating it would be forwarded to the property manager.
I believed the situation was resolved, but this ultimately led to the unauthorized entry into my apartment and the theft I previously mentioned Upon discovering the incident, I returned to the front office, where Manager Tiwari reacted aggressively, stating, "There is no extended stay or rental time." She then claimed she had discarded my 30-day notice, despite Kate confirming that she had discussed the month-to-month rental arrangement with both me and my father earlier. Maria was present during this exchange but remained silent,
I departed after experiencing significant confusion and was subsequently notified of a court date by a constable sheriff in the early hours. I was taken to court not for non-payment, but regarding the rental property. i was given a week to move and i did proudly save yourself the pain and mental anguish they will put you through hell Stay away Please...... read more
