The checkout with Dave was one of the most thorough and helpful that I have experienced, including not only specifics on the boat, but also navigation tips on the Rock Hall harbor and other places of interest. I tend to be obsessive and typically give the impression of a micromanager. Eric never gave me a chance to micromanage. He was one step ahead of me all the way. Each time he told me what I needed next, I approached each step at the next possible chance and Eric had already taken care of it. The buyer decided on a Saturday mid winter that he wanted to buy the boat ASAP, So at 8:59 am Monday I was on the phone to have the boat commissioned and ready for sea trial. To my surprise Eric had already scheduled all of this. No details missed. Perfect experience. I was even out of the country for settlement and it went flawlessly. From the very beginning, the crew of Shardana went above and beyond -- helping us arrange two additional vessels and captains to accommodate our large group. The coordination was seamless, and everything ran smoothly all week long. They thoughtfully planned a fantastic itinerary that perfectly balanced time on the water with well-timed shore excursions, keeping the teens engaged, active, and excited each day. What truly stood out was how all of the captains approached the experience as educators as well as leaders. They didn't just sail the boats -- they invited the teens to become part of the crew. The students were actively involved in steering, navigating, understanding how the boat moves through the water, tying up at the dock, refueling, handling lines, and learning the mechanics behind it all. It was hands-on, immersive, and incredibly empowering for them. Watching the teens grow in confidence and capability over the course of the week was amazing. The captains were patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about teaching. The current owners purchased two adjacent marinas that were somewhere between run-down and sketchy. They've done a really outstanding clean up job and repaired a lot of things. They have an excellent development plan that respects the environment and the neighborhood although some reservations have been expressed. Downsides: you have to pass under the Spa Creek bridge so if your air draft is over 15 feet you have to wait for the drawbridge to open. Some infrastructure (parking, walkways) is still a little rough. Upsides: great management, good service, a true investment in the community, responsive staff, and a location that is really hard to beat when visiting Annapolis, good prices. You can walk to a range of good eateries: quite close are Vin 909, Eastport Kitchen, and Sammie's Italian Kitchen. Further but doable are Boatyard Bar and Grill, Carroll's Creek, Davis' Pub, and all of downtown historic Annapolis. Most maritime services in Annapolis (which is pretty much everything you might need) will come to SAYC. Giant Food grocery is within striking distance for general provisioning and for those special contributions for a docktail invitation Tastings Gourmet Market is in reach. Mills Fine Wine & Spirits is not far; a little beyond their delivery radius but if you are real nice.... I prefer Eastport Liquors. South Annapolis Yacht Centre is truly a contribution to the maritime community in Annapolis, America's Sailing Capitol.
