I have a now 5 month old puppy who started puppy socialization events and Pup 1 classes thru Bravo Pups before the CV19 Pandemic....they were great! Because we were in the middle of a class when the shut down occurred, the remaining classes were done 'virtually' on a ZOOM platform....I have to admit that I thought it was not likely that the virtual version of training would work, but I was mistaken! I have since signed up for the next session of training and it is great to be training my puppy in front of the teacher, and get 'real time' helpful comments PLUS I can then watch the session on line again if I want. And ask questions etc. The instructors and the technology works very well. I am thrilled! read more

My 5 mo old shelter mutt & I just 'graduated' from puppy 2 class, with Mena Kamel as our teacher (held at Pet Express-- Piedmont ave, Oakland) I give him 5 stars. Mena is great: knowledgeable, funny, and really knows dog talk. The dogs know this & seem to glue their eyes to him. We will miss Mena. We're not even sure what will be the next class since Puppy 3 is wa-a-a-a y out at the Oakland zoo. :(( Advice to Bravo pup admin-- the reason for only 4 stars-- PLEASE find a location closer in for Puppy 3 classes. There has to be a rent-able church basement (like at the Oakland church where you do puppy socials). The Zoo location is, for me, a far drive and it's past my pup's bedtime. The drive to Piedmont/Oakland was ok; we live next to Richmond, BUT to the zoo, wow! we wouldn't get home til 9:45 at night or later. When my pup gets sleepy, at 8:00 pm, down she goes OR she becomes very cranky, teenage-like, all in all miserable to be around. In the meantime I will look elsewhere for training. read more

Took our recently-adopted one year old pup to Dog 1 w Anna and would highly recommend. Anna was extremely good w both the people and pups. Our dog now has the foundations for sit, stay, come, walking on leash, no jumping, leave it, albeit all will need to be reinforced w further practice. More important, we have a better sense of how to communicate w our dog across commands-- the speed at which to reward, how challenging to make asks, etc. Ymmv depending on how diligent you are at practicing between classes and how consistent you are w training rewards. read more

Sandi is the best training in the world. She saved Obi from being a menace in the neighborhood - barking at all hours and disturbing the neighbors to the point we almost had to give him away - to a well mannered, obedient dog. By his nature, he is curious and energetic. But now he is able to fetch Kongs when he's hungry, rather than chew on electrical cables. I would recommend anyone who has a puppy or crazy canine to take her classes and find the true wonder of owning a dog. read more

We took Puppy I and Puppy II from Sandi when she taught through Sirius. We have taken a number of other courses through local rescue organizations and other places, but none of them even came close to Sandi's classes. Our puppy Dave would get excited when he recognized the freeway exit for her class. Sandi's classes are well organized and her instruction methods extremely clear. We (and Dave) particularly enjoyed the play time built into the beginning of the class - the perfect mixture of work and fun for owners and dogs. We got what we thought was a cute, little, calm black lab mix from Milo Foundation. Well, as she adjusted when we brought her home we realized she was a crazed, little, alpha lab mix who attacked feet, and pretty much anything that moved - human or otherwise. So, we decided puppy training was definitely in order. BravoPup gives a discount on rescue dogs, so we signed our little "angel" up with Sandi and never looked back. Elkie wonders what happened to eating hot dogs on Thursday nights. Also, there is a puppy social hour we took our hyperactive puppy to before class and she had a BLAST. I Love Bravo!Pup! They are really amazing. I went to Sirius with my now adult french bulldog a couple years ago for training, and they were good, but I took my new puppy to Bravo!Pup based on the reviews, and they are even better! The classes are full of positive energy and joyfulness, and my puppy and I learn so much. Plus, I feel like the trainers (Sandi and Stacey in my class) really care about mine and my puppy's well being, and the well being of every puppy in class. They clearly love dogs, and they are great with people, too. They take time to offer personal help where needed during and after class, and the classes are just so much fun. I highly recommend Sandi T. and Bravo Training as your training regime. I went through all of Sandi's classes (even took a couple of them twice, because they were so much fun!). Sandi is a fantastic dog trainer!!! I would follow her were ever she goes to have my dog trained by her. I took puppy I, II, III, and her tricks class. I've also taken other training classes around the bay area and nothing compares to her! When I signed up for the Oakland dog Trainers Club, they were worried when I said our last training was with sirius. The woman said there are often gaps, but actually my dog was more advanced than many of the other dogs in class thanks to Sandi's thouroughness!!!She breaks the training down so you can pinpoint how to get to the end result and so the dog does not get over whelmed and can be successful. Lola just finished her first round of puppy classes. We have been very pleased with the program. We've worked with three different trainers at Bravo Pup during the course of the training, all of which have been very positive and helpful in training Lola (and us!!!). When we originally signed up, the class nearest to us (and the one that would have gone straight without 2 weeks' interruption with the holiday season) was booked full, so we signed up for the next class. Then, someone dropped out of the one we originally wanted and the one we signed up for was cancelled due to low enrollment. We were offered a spot in the one we originally wanted, but it had started one week earlier. We were a little concerned about missing the first week, but our concerns were put to rest when one of the trainers, Stacey, offered to come to our home to get us caught up. That was awesome. She got to meet Lola and gave us a lot of insight into what we had missed. We felt up to speed the next day when we joined the rest of the class. We had Maureen for the first couple of classes, then Sandi for the last couple (Sandi was doing doggie rescue in Thailand). Both Maureen and Sandi are great! They not only know dogs, but it is clear that they care about puppies and helping their owners to train well behaved, happy, well-adjusted pups. Bravo Pup uses positive reinforcement, which is great. Even though Lola (i.e., we) still has a lot of work to do, from very early on, our friends and family were impressed with the various *tricks* she knew (sit, down, leave it, etc.). We've also done the puppy socials twice now, which are a great way to socialize your pup, whether your puppy is outgoing or shy. The socials are supervised by trainers. Lola comes home exhausted (can you say *date night* after?!). This review is long overdue! I had the pleasure of taking the bravobility class a few months ago with my 9 year old bichon and can't say enough amazing things about the class and the trainers. I took the class with my little guy to get some one on one time with him - we have another large dog who's a rescue so Luigi sometimes gets the short end of the attention stick at home. I wanted the opportunity to spend time with him and give him some fun away from his new sister - OMG did this class deliver! Tammy and Sandi were a blast to work with! They are fun smart and competent trainers and I don't think there was one night that we all weren't laughing and having fun! Luigi loved this class too - he could not wait to get out of the car and join his class mates! We've had the pleasure of two classes now with Bravo Pup and a wonderful experience working with Katy Becker privately for our rescue. I can say with confidence that these guys are the best you will ever find - They will not only train you and your dog, but they will do it in a supportive, fun, and engaging way that will leave you wanting more. Sandi and her crew are amazing! If we could give her 10 stars, we would! We brought our Portuguese Water Dog pup home in June. It had been a long time since either of us had a puppy and we knew we'd need training. Knowing that this is an active, smart breed, we signed her up for puppy training with BravoPup before we even got her home and started taking her to pup socials right away. We were very clear that WE needed to be trained and haven't regretted a minute of our training time with BravoPup. The pup socials were a life-saver when our puppy was younger. Now that she's a rambunctious 8-month-old, she's too big to go, unfortunately. But it was a great way for her to burn off some energy and learn how to socialize with other dogs and people while also gaining some basic skills. Sandi and her staff are attentive, skilled trainers who are quick both with praise and helpful suggestion. Sandi rotates her demos using each of the dogs in the class -- sometimes she'll use a dog she thinks might have more difficulty with the skill and sometimes a dog that's got it. Regardless, this is always followed by a practice session for all dogs that is monitored by her and whoever is working the class with her -- in our case, it's usually Stacy, who is also great. The weekly follow-up e-mail after class that reviews what was taught and the homework for the week is invaluable. Sandi has the ability to instill confidence in both owner and dog, helping to know when to be protective, concerned, or "this is normal, healthy behavior." We have now completed Pup 1, 2, and 3, Introduction to Rally, and Xtreme Recall and are looking forward to Rally 1 and Pup 4 in the new year. We also took Pup 1 and 2 from Sirius. Although those classes were very good as well, we found that they really vary significantly with trainer and location. We have also observed and participated in other training classes in the Bay Area and none are as good as BravoPup and Sandi's unique teaching ability. Both have perfect recall, and had I been a more diligent trainer I'm sure that the lab would even stay out of the trash all the time not just 90% of the time. Good times with Katy Becker, who is a warm, skillful, and well-organized teacher. Her Dog 1 class was well-structured and informative for my partner and me, who are first-time dog owners and still getting the hang of our mostly well-behaved rescue Chihuahua. Katy keeps class simple and enjoyable. We enjoyed figuring out how to coax her to expand her range of behaviors with positive reinforcement -- fun for her, fun for us. When one of our classmates had a barking issue, Katy handled it tactfully by putting up some screens to prevent him from being distracted by the sight of other dogs. Katy emailed after every class to reinforce the skills that we practiced in class, and emphasized the development of dog-friendly pet parenting skills in a fun, encouraging, relaxed classroom environment. Before we got a puppy I studied Training the Best Dog Ever, which is a wonderful positive puppy training manual. However, it was too hard for me to visualize the series of actions I was supposed to go through to train my dog. Then a friend told me about Bravo Pup. We went to classes which follow this same positive dog-training approach, and it all became clear. Now our pup is house-broken, crate-trained and doesn't nip. She's rapidly learning to sit, stay, walk on a leash, and not to jump on people. The classes are fun for her and for us, and we now feel confident we are training her properly. We also took her to the very reasonably-priced puppy socials where she rapidly developed from a shy wallflower to a happy, engaged, pup who gets along great with other dogs. Without these puppy socials, it's very hard to socialize your puppy before she's gotten her whole series of vaccinations. They create a safe, fun, positive environment for puppies to get used to other dogs and other humans. We've taken our puppy to the socials by the Oakland Zoo as well as the socials at the church near Lake Merritt, and have had nothing but good experiences. I am constantly impressed with how knowledgeable and observant the Bravo Pup trainers are. I will sign up for more classes as soon as they are offered. read more

I attended a puppy social at FCCO Church and it was amazing! So may pups and such great facilitators/trainers. They helped train us puppy parents and gave great helpful hints. We just completed Pup 1 and Pup 2 with our new shih tzu puppy. We enrolled our puppy in Pup 1 as soon as we got her at 3 months and I'm so glad we did. Sandi does a great job setting the puppies up for success by breaking every command into incremental and manageable steps. Now our puppy always comes when called and listens to me when I tell her to do something - sit, stay, leave it, etc. I was amazed that Bravo Pup only uses positive training methods (the harshest punishment we learned was a brief time out), but these methods absolutely work. With a rambunctious, fun loving puppy my husband and I thought that it would be a good idea to enroll in a puppy class. I'd taken classes through Sirius with other dogs that I have had, and I admit that I wasn't looking forward to puppy class; however Sandi changed all of that! She went at a great pace, provided plenty of play time, offered very helpful, practical tips for those of us with our hands full! She went well beyond the material in the class outline, helping people with housebreaking and behavior issues and providing lots of one-on-one attention when needed. Initially as a new puppy parent, there is an inclination to be overly protective, especially when they are so small. Sandi was very helpful in this regard, showing us that if you separate two dogs who are in a tussle and they immediately go back for more they are just fine playing together! This has been such a useful bit of information, especially as our puppy has grown larger and started interacting with more and more dogs. Sandi and Stacey were always available to answer questions, both in class and via email. And when we went to the puppy social we were always pleased with how attentive the handlers were, and how exhausted our puppy was afterward! After one puppy social we attended we were told that the proceeds would go to help the shelter in Berkeley that had a huge fire. Not only did we love the Puppy 1 class, but we enrolled and graduated from Puppy 2. We had some scheduling conflicts and Sandi was SO kind and accommodating, even though she definitely didn't need to be. I remain impressed with how well two people can handle a room of 12 adolescent puppies, ranging from a Pug to a Great Dane, and manage their parents expectations at the same time. I find the teaching style to be understanding of the needs of the pups, everything moved along well for the time that was allotted, and I always knew that if the treats that I brought stopped working Sandi and Stacey were there to offer up hot dogs! On the basis of a reference, we contacted Bravo Pup to help us improve our dog's recall and reduce her annoying barking and herding at dog parks. We signed up for four private sessions with a bravo trainer, Ruthanna Levy. Ruthanna met us at the dog park and gave us demonstrations of technique as well as suggestions to improve our pup's specific issues and overall demeanor. The exercise drills were not only fun for my wife and I, but Sadie enjoyed performing for Ruthanna. It's been several weeks later, we've continued the reinforcement practice, and Sadie is a changed dog. She is wonderful on leash, still has some relapses with recall which we're working on, but is a frisky, playful dog with the diverse dog park pack. The improvement, however, is remarkable. All the teaching was done with positive rewarding, no corporeal or negative responses. The harshest response to ill behavior was avoidance and ignoring. In addition, Ruthanna is a positive upbeat trainer, confident that she could help us. We enjoyed and looked forward to her visits. And want to continue the relationship with her. I took Sandi's classes for my yellow lab about 12 years ago. My lab is very hard of hearing now but still performs all of his commands from hand signals. I have recently taken her classes with my new puppy. Sandi is a terrific instructor and she truly cares about the puppy/human relationship. We've taken our puppy here not only for the socials, but for Puppy 1 and Puppy 2. Sandi has been very intuitive, informative and is a great instructor. Our puppy is becoming a teenager and is very rebellious, but the training and socialization has made her more confident. If you have an unmanageable dog or puppy, Sandi will help you through the process although she has a very busy schedule. The only issue that I've noticed is that she will not allow aggressive dogs/puppies into her classes, thus I wouldn't exactly recommend her if your dog is not sociable as she doesn't address those issues in class. read more

Bravoup seemed like a great program until I realized that my puppy would not obey commands without a treat long after it was over. The trainers heavily rely on treats for every single skill. I thought I should warn others who are thinking of taking their puppies here after I ran into someone I got to know in our Bravopup class. She cannot take her dog to our local park because he simply won't come on command, unless she has a treat. She fears he will run off into the street. My dog also will not come on command. I can tell you that there are many times in a day when I do not have a treat in hand and ask him to come. He ignores me. He also will not go through the dog door without a treat waiting. I have tried to break him of this requirement for months. As it is, I might as well not have a dog door and have to make sure he goes outside periodically. Otherwise, he relieves himself inside. I found another trainer who does not use treat-based training and she thinks she can help him. But it will cost more than the original Bravo-Pup tuition. Be warned. read more

We took both of our rescue puppies with fear and aggression issues to Bravo Pup for help. Sandy and Paul were wonderful at working with us to work with our dogs. Two years later they are totally different dogs than the basket cases we rescued, we still work with them and "follow the program", and it is still paying off as we continue to see constant improvement in the way they deal with strangers, other dogs, and the outside world in general. Excellent training, I'd highly recommend both the bravo pup classes and the puppy socials. We just finished bravo pup 2. Sandi and the trainers who work with her were very responsive to our many questions about raising and training a very large breed puppy (both in class, through emails, phone calls and private sessions). This is our first puppy and he's had health issues, so we needed a LOT of help. When we were at a very challenging point early on in the puppy training, Sandi came over for private sessions (she even came over one Sunday morning) to help us find ways to turn several situations around. We went from feeling overwhelmed and exhausted to feeling good about managing our home life with a puppy, having fun while training, and finally enjoying the cuddling and bonding with our big, sweet boy. This included: * adding more structure to help our puppy (sit before every entrance/exit, crate training, kongs) and create more peace, * finding ways to give time outs that worked in our physical space that quickly nipped in the bud bad habits (puppy mouthing and nipping), * introducing our puppy to our two cats (going really well now), * helping our puppy to not eat rocks/sticks, etc. in our backyard, * introducing a car harness and car etiquette so getting to places is now a breeze, * and recommendations for training/play given our particular puppies strengths and challenges. Sandi also respected and worked great with my 12-year-old daughter who was "on" during the classes, socials and at our home sessions. By showing my daughter how to train through play, my daughter really bonded with her puppy, and that is what we were hoping for. Sandi never talked down to her, instead she talked to her in a way that she could really get the training and made it fun. No easy task with a pre-teen! We now have the challenges of an adolescent big male pup, and we look forward to bravo pup 3 in the 2011. read more

I'm late in reviewing this company. My puppy is turning 1 year old in a couple of weeks, but I thought I would write my review now anyway, and I am going to sign up for one of their "specialty classes." These ladies are amazing. My corgi puppy Max absolutely LOVED going here and it was wonderful to completely exhaust him. When we got home he was out like a light for the entire night. It was kind of like having your baby sleep thru the night for the first time. :) Anyway, this is very well organized, monitored, the other parents are all extremely cool, and every parent is well behaved (unlike some dog parks.) It is SO important that your puppy get out and play at these socials so they learn proper play behavior and stay socialized. The only reason I stopped taking Max there was because he started going to daycare 3 days a week and that is about all I can afford, plus he gets enough socialization through that alone. But we will be back for classes. I need the Total Recall one (or whatever it's called,) because although Max is the sweetest puppy in town, he also has a mind of his own and comes back when he so chooses. So.........gonna stamp out that behavior soon. lol read more

I have taken dog training classes with a lot of local organizations and I have to say that Bravo is by far one of the BEST!! My dog is training to be a search and rescue k9 which requires that they have an intense level of obedience. Well, Bravo's Pup 1 & 2 classes really got her off to the right start. Her "down stay" & "heel" commands are incredible! I have used many other techniques, but the ones I was taught through Bravo have really surpassed the others. I couldn't be happier!! I just wish they offered ongoing competitive level obedience classes!! read more

We rescued a 6 month old lab/collie mix from a shelter and quickly realized that she had led a very sheltered life. She was afraid of strangers and had a variety of other issues. We enrolled her in Bravo Dog 1 with Mena Kamel and he recommended we also get a one on one session with Maria Karunungan. Maria came to our house, met our pup Zoe, and really helped us get on the right track with training. She was very knowledgeable, provided us with a detailed write up on the issues she had observed and the ones we described along with steps for how to deal with them.
