Jennifer is a masterful dog trainer. Two months ago, we picked up a 7-week old Golden-doodle, Max. We'd had dogs before. But it was a long time since we had a puppy. We knew that Jennifer was working with friends of ours and their dog, and they were very happy with her style and results. Knowing how busy Jennifer is, we asked them to find out if she'd make time for our new puppy. We are so glad she said yes! She is great! She trains the dog and the owner at the same time, with humor and discipline. There are two things you need to appreciate about Jennifer. First, she is a no-nonsense trainer. She loves dogs and takes the training seriously. You should be ready to do the same. The second is that she is a real expert in the science of training dogs. It's something special to watch how she treats the dogs with such a reach knowledge and understanding of what they need and when. Finally, Jennifer makes the training fun for the whole family. Our son has special needs, and it is wonderful to watch how Jennifer works with him and helps him learn how to train our dog. It is so fun to watch them together. She makes us all laugh. There isn't a better trainer around! read more

Jennifer has been a significant part of our dog's training for more than a year, ever since he was a puppy. She understands dogs and getting the behaviors we want. She showed us how to motivate and train Leo and turn around any problem behaviors. On our first big trip out of town, she called us to see how things were going and helped us through some challenges. Recently, I wanted to do even more with Leo. Jennifer has been working with me to train Leo for AKC Rally, where he recently titled at the novice level and we're moving on! She has helped to make the person/dog relationship a pleasure. What more can you ask. Jennifer is GREAT. Knowledgeable, fun, passionate about dogs and their owners. She's also responsive, reliable and caring. She wants the best for our dog and us. read more

She is the best trainer out there. We are so very happy we have Jennifer in our lives. Our fur babies have never acted happier, they are very focused after one session with Jennifer. Jennifer is a miracle worker. Vader is an almost 18 month old Newfie who weights close to 170 lbs. He is naturally a really sweet and pretty well behaved dog but we were having a huge issue with pulling during walks. My husband could manage him pretty well but I didn't feel comfortable walking him on my own as he would go crazy when he saw other dogs, trying to rush over and play, and it took every ounce of my strength to restrain him. After one session with Jennifer, he is 100% different. She introduced us to an e-collar which we'd never considered before and Vader caught on within an hour. Jennifer set us up with all the equipment we'd need at a very fair price and has been wonderful to work with. We have returned for a few more sessions to work on other skills and are so thrilled with the progress we've seen. read more

Our dog, Rufus, was going through some tough times due to his leash pulling and leash aggression. So much so that we were embarrassed by his poor behavior; it was starting to upset his humans and make him not enjoy his walks. He is an angel in dog parks, but for some reason a jerk when he is on a leash I kid you not, with one training session with Jennifer and some minor hardware changes, Rufus no longer pulled hard on his walks! As a French Bulldog, Rufus likes being in charge, leading walks, and thinks he is the coolest thing since the invention of the iPhone (let's be honest, cooler than sliced bread!). He now enjoys his walks, does not pull, and looks so happy! Contrary to most bulldogs, French or not, Rufus loves exercise - he loves to jump, run, do tricks. His quality of life has increased by magnitudes. We just finished our 5th session yesterday, where we worked on tackling his leash aggression. It seems as though Rufus likes being in charge, but not for long! By the end of the 5th session, we were able to walk near Jennifer's extremely well-trained Pitbull, Alita. Within a few passes, Rufus was able to focus on us and acknowledge Alita's excitement without reacting. Exactly what we wanted. read more

We've used Jennifer to help train our dog Clyde over the last few years. Clyde is a gray dog but has his issues listening and is very stubborn he's not an 'easy' dog. Jennifer helps us be more confident dog owners, gives us instructions to train our dog more effectively and ultimately leaves dog and owner in a better place. Highly recommend!!! read more

Jennifer is an amazing Dog Whisperer. Within one hour she had broken 4 bad habits of our little guy. We went so far as to board him with Jennifer and within 4 days it's amazing what he learned. I loved all her techniques. She sent us photos of him every day with the new items he mastered. We are using her again next month to bring him to the next level. Can't believe we have such an amazing dog trainer on the island! Christen~ read more

Jennifer has been a godsend! My girlfriend and I recently adopted our first dog, an 8 year old chihuahua mix with a bad attitude problem. He had some serious resource guarding, aggression, biting and barking issues when we first took him in. After two weeks, his bad behavior (biting and barking through the night being the worst of them) was so unmanageable that we contemplated returning him. That's when we got on the phone to find a trainer. Jennifer was the first to call back, she listened carefully to our experience, assured us that our dog's behavior could be managed with the proper training, was up front that her training style was not positive only and explained what that means, and made herself available for a session the next day. I am so glad that we went with Jennifer because we saw immediate results after our first session. Her firm, no-nonsense style as well as the training tools she provided has given us the confidence to manage our dog's behavioral issues. We have done three sessions with Jennifer and our dog is no longer barking through the night, his resource guarding issues are improving, he's getting increasingly better at following commands, he is overall less aggressive and is more disciplined on leash. There is still a lot more to be done, but our work with Jennifer has given us a solid foundation and has created a happier home for our pup and us. We have already referred a friend to her and would encourage everyone to reach out to Jennifer for all your dog training needs! read more

I first met Jennifer April 2018.I had adopted Tanzie December: 2017. She was timid and flinched every time we petted her. I had been referred to a Vet Behaviorist. Tanzie was doing better, but I felt we missing a piece of the puzzle. Jennifer and I met. She helped me learn how to help Tanzie be more confident. She is a happy Mal Gal. Rocko is my 5 month old male Mal puppy. He is definitely a big goofy puppy. I was trying to train Rocko and I was having trouble with him. Jennifer has worked with him. He is calmer at times and always want to please. I feel very blessed to have Jennifer as my Trainer. If I could stand on a mountaintop and shout to everyone I would. Jennifer cares about the dogs she works with. Her passion for training is so awesome. I know Jennifer will work me to help Rocko becomes sound working dog. I would recommend Jennifer for your training needs. read more

Jennifer has been amazing! She has been training my 15 month old English Setter Finley and me for a few weeks now and the change has been incredible. Finley is a hunting breed so his instinct to pull and chase was driving me crazy. We had tried all kinds of leashes, harnesses etc... but nothing worked. When he started lunging at cyclist this was the last straw. After a few sessions with Jennifer Finley walks on a loose leash and only pulls occasionally. The right tools and the correct handling taught by Jennifer have made our outings with Finley a pleasure! I would highly recommend her! read more

Cannot be more thankful for having met Jennifer Sharpe. She's done wonders for our dog who's having aggressive behavior more pronounced towards her new little fur brother. There's still work to be done but judging by the impressive progress thus far we are certain our dog will get to the point of complete rehabilitation from her aggressive tendencies. https://www.facebook.com/525788493/posts/10155690081723494/ read more

We sought out Jennifer about a month ago when our Akita puppy Basil was about 4 months old. While he had basic commands down, he was having trouble controlling himself when he got excited. He was beginning to ignore our commands and had a few bad habits we wanted to break (pulling on the leash, jumping, excessive licking, mouthing/nipping). Within a couple sessions, we were able to stop his nipping, teach him how to control his behavior and got him walking like a sane dog. With such great results, we decided to start taking our 3 year old Jack Russel/Chihuahua mix Leo to Jennifer so we could work on some of his behavior issues. It's been two session and we've already broken his reactiveness to skateboards and other dogs when on walks. Jennifer is training us as much as she is training our dog! She sets the foundation, explains the psychology behind her techniques and coaches us on how to reinforce the lessons learned. She's also helped us understand alternative ways to exercise our dogs bodies and minds. If you have a chance to work with her, DO IT! Whether it's basic training or serious behavior issues, she knows what to do. read more

Jennifer is MAGICAL I adopted a little dachshund/chihuahua mix last year, and he has the typical shelter dog/chiweenie qualities: skittish, a little rebellious and tough to leash train. Jennifer changed all of this in just a few sessions. Now I can walk Sebastian without him pulling at the leash. A couple weeks ago, I went on a trip and while I was on my flight back home, Sebastian and my other dog Albie (not trained by Jennifer) got out of the house. Sebastian waited at the door for my roommate to return, while Albie ended up spending a night in the shelter until I got back. Just goes to show that a little bit of training by an amazing trainer goes a long way in reprogramming a dog's mind. Oh, and did i mention he can do adorable jumps over hurdles now? Yeah, that too. Thanks so much, Jen! read more

I've been taking my (now 3-year old) Ridgeback to Jennifer for about a year and a half and the transformation was literally night and day. I've done training sessions with Jennifer one-on-one and also board and train sessions for when I've been traveling and my dog needed a little extra guidance. Jennifer is by far one of the most stern yet patient trainers I've ever met and you can tell that she genuinely loves what she does because that directly translates to the care she puts into her training sessions. As a repeat customer, I'm a little selfish because I want her all to myself, but seriously I highly recommend her. And I will continue going back. read more

Jennifer was recommended to us to help train our Mini Schnauzer Ingo who was too smart for his own good! I did training with her along with Ingo and now she'll take him for the day on his own. I think she helped train me more than our pup :) The best advice she gave me when training him out of bad behavior is that it's not personal, and he'll be happier in the long run. He was leash aggressive and recently we took him to a street festival in town where there were a ton of dogs walking around and he was a gem. Guess who we ran into - Jennifer! Thank you for ALL that you do! read more

Do you have a reactive dog? A bully breed? Rescue dog with behavioral issues? Go to Jennifer. Seriously. Do it. I went to Jennifer after reading reviews about how she helped a client's dog who was reactive to bikes and skateboards. Our dog, Zona, is a 2-year old 70lb pitbull rescue. She is very reactive to bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, skateboards...anything on wheels. She also reacts to other dogs when on leash. Zona is extremely strong, and when she sees any of those triggers, she goes 1000% batshit crazy--you'd better be holding the leash with both hands. Jennifer taught us how to properly walk Zona, gave us the right equipment, and trained US as well as Zona. I kid you not, after just 1 session, there was significant improvement--to the point where Zona would let a bike pass by and not flinch. I did not think this was possible at all. But the proof is in the pudding! You gotta see it to believe it. Going to Jennifer is worth every penny! read more

We came to Jennifer after adopting a 1.5 year old rescue named jack. He was a stray and had no record or history. We were desperate as our wonderful new dog had some serious anxiety issues, leash aggression, barking at everything on walks, and no previous leash training. We knew his potential and as his new owners and forever home, it was our responsibility to find help. All I can say is that Jennifer has helped us so much with each of these issues. But please note: training does not happen over night. You must follow the teaching she provides and be consistent to see results. In the end Jennifer ended up reaching us how to be better pet owners. After all, it's up to us to give the dog instructions and his job to follow. If you don't know how to give the right commands, your dog surely won't know how to follow! We absolutely love Jennifer and our dog is becoming the best he can be thanks to her read more

I met Jennifer by chance - she was sitting outside Starbucks with her two pups and of course, being the dog lover that I am, I stopped to visit. Suffice to say, best stopping and petting dogs that has ever happened to me. I have a gorgeous, reasonably well behaved, loving yellow Lab who has always been dog reactive/dog aggressive. We had spent thousands of dollars on him with obedience training and having a very well regarded trainer work with him on the aggression. Nothing helped, and while he is most often safely hanging out in our fenced back yard, it was worrisome. I bring him back to my home in Northern Wisconsin which doesn't have fencing and it has always concerned me, in addition to my having to be keenly watchful of him and other dogs. Two sessions with Jennifer and Cooper is an entirely different dog. It's probably more accurate to say that we are entirely different leaders, but you get my drift. She brought one or both of her dogs to each session, and in the past, I would never (!) have introduced them to Cooper. He now walks right past them, nose to nose, tail wagging, no growling, no hackles. Jennifer is punctual, communicative, considerate, reasonably priced, and quite obviously, very knowledgeable. She has started working with him/us in other areas as well, and the progress is stunning. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

I want to start by saying if you have a dog PLEASE call Jennifer to help with your training! I have a wonderful pup that had been re-homed 4 times because she was dog aggressive, bike aggressive, and skateboard aggressive. I tried training with another trainer and it didn't work out at all as a matter of fact I think my dog got worse. I saw Jennifer on the trail one day with her beautiful well trained dogs and knew she was the trainer I had to call. I called her and we started training my dog. After the first session I saw a great improvement. I have had 4 training sessions with her now and the last session we actually went to the skateboard park and my dog did amazing. She did at react at all. Jennifer knows dogs very well, and she knows how to train the human also, I can't recommend her enough. It's rare that I feel impelled to post a review on Yelp -- an experience really needs to be remarkably good or undeniably bad. Unfortunately, my training experience with Jennifer at Complete Dog Obedience was the latter. It was bad. It was insulting. It was, in the words of my teenage son, annoying. And to think one must pay good money for this! Let's start there - with the payment. I was told over the phone that the cost was $100 for a session but at the end of the training, I was told it was $110 if I paid by Venmo vs. cash. Add to this that she sold me an overpriced collar ($25 for me, whereas I see others who have reviewed CDO were charged less!). I declined the inflated priced e-collar (I already have one and Jennifer kept insisting that her high priced collar is much better. A shock is a shock!) and the leather leash (which failed during the training session). I guess I can start with the e-collar. I have a doodle. A sweet doodle. Seems a little unreasonable to me to be using an e-collar right off the bat to get the pup to turn this way or that way. My doggo was jumping off the ground from the shocks, errr stimulation. Okay, but I'm not a dog trainer so what do I know? There's more than way to skin a cat, right? If you're interested in learning to be militant, rough, harsh, etc when training your pup, then Jennifer's tactics may work for you. The worst part though for me (and my son) was how insulting, gruff, rough, abrasive, and annoying she was to work with. I guess if I was dropping my dog off and didn't have to be bossed around and criticized it might be okay - though I still might worry about my dog's experience. Speaking of, Jennifer's rate for board and training is $200 a night. This seems to be a MUCH BETTER deal than $110 for an hour of training. Though Jennifer is most likely skilled at training dogs, in my heart, I can't recommend her. read more

Dog training is not what I thought it was, but I have never dealt with a pro trainer, either. I've had dogs all my life, and I thought they were well behaved, until i met Jennifer and her pack. She will meet you and your dog at a park or lot somewhere and train both of you. It really is more about to training you. My little Mejo has gained more confidence, listens to commands, and does what he is supposed to do. You will be amazed by how much happier your dog is, when it knows the rules. And you will be much more pleased with your dog. She is a true professional trainer, who cares about your dog and the relationship you have with it. Jen is fantastic! We worked with her over the course of several months to help our 1 year old goldendoodle overcome leash aggression, timidness with new people & dogs, and general obedience and confidence building. After the first hour long session we immediately saw results! Jen is a great teacher to both pups and people, her sessions are challenging, the lessons are clear, and if you put in the effort and keep up the work you will have the BEST dog at the end. We can speak also to the incredible value of doing the overnight boarding for more intensive training if that is what your pup needs to break-through. Bowie went for a 3 night stay and Jen sent videos of his progress and explanations throughout the weekend of the exercises she was doing so that we could keep them up on our own after. We love you Jen! Lauren, Kieran, and Bowie read more

I am so happy that other people have found so much success working with Jennifer. I, however, found her training tactics borderline abusive and her business practices shady. This review is long overdue. I reached out to Jennifer when I moved back to the Bay Area with my dog. I was a student so cash supply was limited and she was an affordable dog trainer with great reviews. I decided to give her a go. She never asked much about my dog's history or what the exact problems were but I didn't think too much of it. First training session/ consultation I met at her place. She had me run up and down the streets with my dog in tow. While this was happening Jennifer commented on how she was much older than I am and in apparent better shape since I was getting winded. Odd comment to make, but I brushed it off. At the end of the session, she had me pay for the slip collar she let us use. It was never a question of would you like to use this tool or I highly recommend using this instead of what you are currently using- she just said oh and the collar is $15. She also said my leather leash wasn't adequate enough and handed me a chewed up leather leash and charged me $30 for that. She then proceeded to tell me that since she is a trainer, she gets a deal on e-collars and that I should go through her to purchase one. Later, when I went to the e-collar website, I noticed that they were selling them for cheaper than what she charged me... The second training session was the icing on the cake. Jennifer wanted me to get my dog to jump on top of a rock. Seems simple enough. When my dog didn't want to jump on the rock she had me pull her 35lb body up by the leash and collar basically strangling her. She had me continue to do this until my dog did it on her own. When I hesitated, Jennifer stepped in to do it herself. Jennifer asked if she could take a video of me having my dog jump over these concrete hurdles at the park. I said okay. As she was taking the video I heard her saying thing like "this dog is aggressive and has bit people before." Let me make this very clear, my dog has NEVER bit anyone or anything. She is NOT aggressive. I came to Jennifer because my dog was leash reactive not aggressive. My dog is actually incredibly dog social. All in all, my experience was very poor. I took my time and money elsewhere. I found a trainer who was more expensive but really took the time to learn about my dog's behavior issues, did in home training sessions, and used a balanced method. My dog is calm, confident and no longer leash reactive. read more

My dog Harley aka Guppy went to Jennifer as a dog that would be aggressive towards every dog.she would growl, and bark. I sent here there for two sets of two weeks whil I was on vacation.the first time she came back so happy, she could be around dogs and not bark or attack them. She was Also learning new commands to walk on leash better. She came back a second time and she. She returned she was almost perfectly behaved around dogs, and she is so close to knowing all of her commands off leash! I am so impressed with all the progress she has made in these last few weeks. I also got countless pictures every single day of my dog doing her tracing and updates! Overall wonderful training and amazing care of your animals! read more

In two sessions Jennifer put doable useful techniques into my hands. Now I know how to correct behaviors that make walking a dog stressful and exhausting, and create behaviors that make walks and runs enjoyable and relaxing. My two dogs were criss crossing, sniffing everything, lunging for squirrels and most disturbingly one was aggressively barking at large dogs. Over time I was concerned for the health my rotator cuff, and they were a serious tripping hazard. Now with only two sessions that were not treat based I know how to give clear instructions for walking on the left side without pulling, left turns, right turns, up, wait, stay, sit, how to ride a bike with a dog on a leash and how to open my front door with dogs that peacefully wait until it's time to leave and don't try to race out the door like wild animals that scare small children and old ladies! Highly recommend. Very empowering. read more

Auntie Jennifer is what we call her because her relationship with our dog Duchess is so strong. Duchess totally adores Jennifer and the felling is clearly mutual. My wife and I adopted a pit bull/boxer mix about a year and a half ago. It's our first dog and my wife was scared of dogs in the past. We found Jennifer about a month after we got Duchess and she's been training all three of us since. Duchess is still a puppy but acts much older than her age and is extremely obedient. Much of this is because of Jennifer's training and the guidance she's provided to us. Overall, she's a great trainer and has become a great friend of ours. read more

This review is a long time coming. We adopted our puppy Duchess in Aug 2016 and I was pulling my hair out. Duchess wouldn't listen and when we took her on walks she was scared of EVERYTHING. I wasn't enjoying the new dog experience and Duchess didn't seem happy either. :-( Enter Jennifer... she saved our lives. Jennifer started us with the basics (walking her on a leash), showed us how to correct bad behavior and suggested different food and equipment. Most importantly she helped Duchess with her confidence. Duchess is no longer afraid of other dogs, skateboards, shopping carts (I could go on and on). Jennifer is firm but loving towards Duchess and all of the dogs I've seen her train. The love and compassion she shows to all of the dogs in her care is genuine. She treats each and every animal in her care as if they were her own. Because of Jennifer's observant eye and listening to our concerns we discovered Duchess is allergic to chicken. If you trust your fur baby to Jennifer you will not be disappointed. When my husband and I head out of town the only person we trust with Duchess is Jennifer. Jennifer isn't just a trainer she is family. Thanks to Jennifer we have a well behaved and happy fur baby. :-) read more

When i first called to get some information, Jennifer sounded hestitante with me and like she is trying to check me out. When I asked for price she told me 105 for one hr and that it's "non refundable". The part of her saying non refundable when she is trying to sell me a service got me very wary but I decided to give it a go since she seems to be the only dog trainer in Alameda where I live. All in all she I'm sure she is a professional and into this buisness for a long time (maybe too much) but I gotta say I was not impressed with her human relations, she barely asked me anything about the dog (GSD mix) and just told me how much i was doing wrong so far with training him without really asking how do i train him and i how do i treat him. The worst part was the end where she litteraly told me i gotta have this leather leash and collar for 40$+10$ and lets say after the dog bit the leash i discovered its far from real leather. Super dissapointed, Really hoped I could find a trainer I could trust in my area. Feeling ripped off read more

Jennifer's help with Mackenzie has been wonderful. From when I brought her home as a pup until today (she turned 3 in February) Jennifer's advice has helped both "Mack" and I. Jennifer is a great trainer. Ruby has worked with her off and on for the past 6 months, and learned so much (obedience, agility, etc.) Ruby definitely likes to take her time on walks, sniffing every leaf or blade of grass (unless she is with other dogs, then she walks great). Then, Ruby spent a day with Jennifer this week and - wow! When I took her out on an evening walk - she just walked quickly right by my side - she was on a mission! I've also seen Jennifer's work with friends' and neighbors' dogs, with all different training challenges and can say she has done an excellent job. Highly recommended. read more
