Sure, a very reasonable policy, but it would have been nice to be talked to in a more respectful manner. I ended up walking a block over to Laura Preshong on Tremont and they welcomed me in and enthusiastically helped me out and I was on my way in under 5 minutes! That's all it took! We originally wanted to "add" a halo to the existing ring, but he suggested we put it in a new setting because it would make the profile of the ring look odd. He was so honest and thoughtful with his recommendations, and really pushed me to try on every band until I found "the one". He also cleaned my fiance's family ring and took out the diamond for us to look at. He told us everything he could see about the diamond (it was an older, European cut) and let us look at it through the magnifying glass. The entire time I didn't feel pressured and all of his recommendations seem to be sincere and helpful ones. My fiance had previously gone to another jeweler on his own, and was a little confused after he left that jeweler. They didn't give many suggestions with what to do to his ring (maybe because he wasn't purchasing a diamond from them?) and didn't seem entirely helpful or inclined to. Review from my fiancé :)…read more Let me start off this review by saying if you've been to this place and are hesitant if you should go with them, you need to greatly reconsider your position - because we went to several different places (both local & chain), and BDC is absolutely the best and a cut above the rest. My girlfriend (now fiancé, of course ) were in Boston for July 4th and we decided to check out a couple jewelry places. We didn't seek out this place in particular - we just happened upon while walking around the area (we even looked at a place next door that was not even a maybe after going in). We were greeted by a very nice & smiling Stephanie. She and her family own this business, so right off the bat, you know you're going to get the best (local) service - versus being just another "number" at a chain jeweler. Stephanie was a no-pressure, VERY knowledgeable, down-to-earth salesperson. She first congratulated us both on the future engagement (the first sign of her easy to approach, personable nature). She then asked if we were looking for anything in particular, so my finance showed her a picture of a ring she saw on Instagram, and Stephanie instantly found one very similar to it (an example of her no pressure, non-upselling nature). She answered all of our questions about the different qualities of a diamond (caret, cut, color & clarity). She is both a certified Gemologist and Diamontologist, so you know you're getting the best information from her. Another thing that really stood out to us is when Stephanie told us that not only will do they do free life-time cleanings, but they'll also do a complimentary repair/replacement of the stone if it's lost, damaged or even stolen. That in itself is rare, because most places (and all the other ones we checked out required this) make you submit a claim through your insurance. So that right here sold us, and put them on the top of our list. We finished the visit by Stephanie writing down all the information on the ring for us on a business card, in case we did decide to go with it. After visiting BDC, we went to several other places (local & chain) in Maine (where we both met, and I'm from). However, after weighing all the options and how the other places were, we knew the obvious answer was BDC. Stephanie's no pressure, approachable, knowledgeable personality and their obvious commitment to customer service made it an easy choice. Over the next several months I worked with Stephanie directly since I knew what my finance liked. We emailed back and forth over different options based on the information from the card (the ring we originally looked at) and on my budget. She even went as far as to not only send me pictures of al lthe different rings we talked about, she also sent me videos of them so I could see them in greater detail. If that isn't superior customer service, then I don't know what is. She even suggested a ring (that I ended up picking as the one for our engagement ) that was several thousand cheaper than the original ring we looked at - that is an obvious commitment in showing that she genuinely cares about what the client wants, and not just trying to up-sell you on something you don't want nor need. When I finally did pick out the ring of choice, Stephanie made it so easy to make a deposit over the phone, and get the ring started in production (she was even willing to do this on just a small deposit put down, because she knew I was on a deadline of wanting to propose on a certain day). When I came in to pick up the ring, she already had it ready for me - in a gift box & all. That just goes to show you that not only does she care about what you truly want, she also values your time. We finished by her congratulating me on my pending engagement, and truly showed a sincere interest in our special day (she even asked where and how I was going to do it - so she obviously genuinely cared about our special moment). In concluding, BDC is absolutely the best jeweler not only in the Boston area (which obviously says a lot, because there's MANY to choose from in the city), but also out of any we went to. Stephanie is by far the best in service (no pressure, approachable), knowledge (certified Diamonologist/Gemologist who answers all your questions in the best detail - explaining everything), and quality, local business (even replacing damanged/lost/stolen stones as a courtesy to its customers). The bracelet arrived and it is small, sad, and cheap-looking. It looks like a child's bracelet you might buy in a dime store. And it certainly looks terrible on a grown woman's wrist. It is incredibly lightweight - probably has about $3 worth of silver in it. I feel cheated and disappointed. I paid $200 - that was the sale price, the original price was $400 - can you believe it? I was dumb enough to buy this bracelet online without seeing it in person - OK, my mistake. I trusted Sophie, having bought an expensive gold bangle from her in the past. Alas, Sophie refuses to stand behind her merchandise and will not let me exchange the bracelet for something else, something that might look good on a middle aged woman's wrist. I knew that my fiancée wanted a ring that was more unique and creative than your average off-the-shelf ring from Kay, and I didn't want to bust the bank on a "custom" jeweler who essentially lets you choose the components (shank, head, and stone) then hurries you out the door. I also didn't want to buy a more unique ring from an established boutique jeweler elsewhere in the country that seemed overpriced and impersonal, limiting my design interaction to phone conversations with an assistant and minimal customization at best. Sophie was recommended to me by several other local small-scale, creative jewelers who didn't have experience with precious stones for wedding rings. From the outset she was open to discussing and sketching various nontraditional design possibilities with me, rather than limiting the conversation to her previously established designs. She then proceeded methodically with providing images for conversation, producing a mockup, providing samples of a wide range of options for all components, and discussing the nuances of each decision that was made along the way. The final price tag for the ring was incredibly affordable given the level of craft and attention to detail that Sophie provided. My fiancée is ecstatic about the character and quality of the ring, and we are eagerly planning to return to Sophie to make both of our wedding bands.
