When I booked out vacation for the 4th of July, I selected our dates of arrival n departure, the website clearly has a big blue button that says availability ends on july 9 2025, if I speak English correctly that means it's available only until the 9. I clicked on the big blue button takes me to the middle of the next page where it says book now, I clicked book now and the very next page just asks for your payment information, what I did not know was that the website changed the dates to 07/06 instead of check in 07/04 like I entered, I received the confirmation email with the wrong date so I called them immediately and Mary who answered the phone said sorry too bad no refunds on holidays! I tried to explain to her and she wasn't caring one bit about it, gaslighting me to the best of her ability. She then said well I can change the site for it I ended up having to pay more money for an RV site cuz was the only thing available besides a plain site without W&E like I had already paid for. Then I went to look some of the reviews and I saw a picture and the RV site is gravel, she never mentioned that to me I asked her how am I going to put a tent on top of gravel??' Again their response is that that's none of their problem they already took my money if I want to come good if not good, they do not care! I made a complaint with BBB for the way that they have been conducting business and misleading and cheating on people! Save yourself the headache and book your trip else where! * by the way the video was done today about 2 weeks after all this happened. To this day they are still taking bookings for dates that aren't available and switching it over without showing the customers!! Be aware!

My family and I recently went camping here for the 4th of July weekend. We took a bit of a gamble…read morecoming here since there just seems to be so few reviews online, but we really enjoyed our stay and wanted to share details since it seems that those are missing...And since some things have changed. Campground Rules: Some earlier reviews had mentioned that vehicles are not allowed at the sites, and this is what is specified on the current list of campground rules. I would advise visitors to call ahead to ask, but at the time of our visit (July 2021), we were told that vehicles ARE allowed to remain at the campsites, which is extremely convenient! Due to COVID-19, however, the group sites are currently unavailable and there are some campsites that are left empty to allow for social distancing. Sanitary Facilities: the sanitary facilities listed on the website are NOT all the same! The three in the camping area are essentially outhouses (see picture attached) and are pretty messy (they have hand sanitizer and toilet paper available, but also some spiders! But I guess that's what you expect with rustic camping...On the plus side, they also hang up some air fresheners so they did smell pretty good). However, they DO have much nicer bathrooms in the day-use/picnic area, right behind the showers. These have flush toilets, toilet paper, sinks, soap, and paper towels, and are cleaned daily. Other Amenities: there are trash cans dispersed across the camping area, which are easily accessible but also protected against wildlife. We also did see white trucks from First Light (the company running the campground) once or twice patrolling the area, so it seems that it is pretty safe. They did not bother us or interact with us at all, but it was nice to know that they were around. Additionally, we did not use the showers but they are coin-operated so do bring coins if you plan on showering! Checking In/Out: we visited the Campground Office and Paddlesport Center to check in and out of our campsite. The staff there were very friendly and processed us very quickly. We also rented kayaks for the morning, and they were super accommodating and it was a great experience! Fees: this may change, but at the time of our stay, we paid $22/day for our campsite and I believe $25 for 2 hours for a tandem kayak (the price is the same for solo kayaks and also stand-up paddleboards). We got a bundle of wood at the Campground Office and Paddle Sport Center for less than $6, and it lasted a pretty long time. Camp Sites: the campsite itself was very spacious. We had Site 27, which was pretty isolated due to all of the surrounding campsites being closed due to COVID-19 distancing. There is a gate that you have to open to get your car in and out, but it's fairly easy to open (not sure if you're allowed to just leave it open?). Pro-tip for anyone who stays at Site 27: it can be hard to find...But go into the loop for parking and you'll find a separate gate with a post nearby labeled "27". Go through there and Site 27 is on the left! We wandered around a little bit initially...We did not have tent plots on our site, which was just as well since our tent would not have fit anyway. But we did see many other sites with it, and they looked pretty nice! Trails: the nature trail was well-marked and very pretty. Quick warning though: there are some steep areas that were hard to navigate. They have steps constructed for most areas, but do be careful with older individuals or younger children. The Dinosaur Track Quarry was unlabeled unfortunately, but should be relatively easy to find. It's toward the beginning of the trailhead at the parking area and is distinguished by a cliff face and a lot of small, thin stones (possibly shale stones?). There are also a couple of overlooks available throughout the trail, like in one of the images attached, seen at sunset. These were really nice! Kayaking: As mentioned previously, we did rent out kayaks from the Campground Office and Paddlesport Center! There's a lot of space to paddle around (we only did 2 hours, but there was a lot more to explore) and the staff helped with bringing everything (boats, paddles, and life jackets) to and from the launching area. We surprisingly saw a lot of swans and their cygnets around (I want to say maybe 10 families???), as well as ducks and geese. Overall Experience: We really enjoyed our stay overall at Barton Cove. Whenever we had questions, the staff over the phone were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our stay was peaceful and quiet (with the exception of fireworks in nearby places - not in the campground itself - due to the 4th of July). Our only complaint is that we wish that the outhouses were a little bit better maintained. There were some spiderwebs in places you really don't want them to be...I also wish that the website could be updated to reflect some of the rule changes and include more information!

This campground has beautiful sights and sounds of the Connecticut River. I would go again!read more

When I finally spoke with someone and made the reservation, were weren't even sent a confirmation email. The only thing received was an email with the charge to my charge and without a break down of the charges. Once we got to the park, we weren't even notified on the check out time. When we arrived, it was disappointing. You drive through a trailer park to arrive at the campground and there are no signs on the main road confirming that the trailer park you're entering will lead you to the campground. It's difficult to maneuver a trailer through the trailer park as well. When we entered the park, it was mostly seasonal. The spot we had was horrible to back into. They put up all of these lamp posts all over the place and they are added obstructions and make the tight spaces more difficult to navigate. Not to mention, our site was rated for a 40 foot trailer and there's just no way. We could barely back our trailer in while hooked up to the truck. There was little room. The site behind us had a TON OF PEOPLE AND KIDS. They were loud at night and during the day, their kids were coming into our site. They were also very disruptive. We have a baby and it was hard for him to get a nap in. We couldn't even sit outside on our porch (since we have a toy hauler) because our neighbors directly behind us had a fire that would have smoked into our trailer and we had no privacy at all. We noticed a few open sites and went to ask the older women working in the office, if we would be able to move. She said there were no open sites except a row of unoccupied atv sites near the woods. They were normal sites but reserved for the busy atv season. She said there was an up charge for those sites. After discussing it with my husband, we decided to pay the difference since they were all empty and honestly, ended up being a lot more quiet than where we were. When my husband advised that he would pay the difference, he was flat out told no. No conversation or anything. Just no. Those sites along with another site, were NEVER occupied during our stay. We weren't allowed to move despite being willing to pay for it. We were also not notified during our booking that there would be kids trick or treating all over the place. Again, we have a sleeping baby and we went camping for some peace and quiet. Later on, we took our baby for a walk and went over to a swing set on site. I wanted to swing him for a bit but there was a grown man on the swings. This whole experience was not great at all. The only positive was when I went to buy firewood. There was a young girl working inside who was maybe in her late teens or early twenties. She was extremely polite and helpful. She's the only positive I got out of this.

But...the spaces are the smallest I've EVER seen in my 20 years camping. The guy next to us put his grill less than 10 feet from our RV. (Of course doing that is lacking common sense). And NO....it is not clean as a whistle. Since 2014 they have four reviews. This speaks volumes. The place has NOTHING going for it. Wide open, hot as hell in the Summer with no shade and bees everywhere. If you leave anything out during the week, expect it gone when you return. Imagine being among people who steal from you. Report it to the office and they do NOTHING and say they haven't heard of any other reports. Report to the police and they tell you they have been out there MANY TIMES with people reporting things stolen. No activities at all. NOTHING. They have some lazy really fat guy named Fred Weber going around in a golf cart complaining about the children riding their bikes too fast. What the heck is too fast? If you have any plans on even thinking of this dump, call the police first and ask them the history with reports of items stolen first. Pay more money, go somewhere else, and have an enjoyable vacation. Could I give ZERO stars?

Unfortunately. We were on the wrong side of the tracks for this stay. Hardly worth the $60 during the end of season. The site was dirty with trash and a fire pit that wasn't cleaned. Our picnic table had muddy dog prints all over it and the water connection was less than 6 inches off the ground and just above the sewer connection, which made attaching sewer connections impossible. They have posted 9 pm quiet hours, yet our 9 pm late arriving seasonal neighbors were loudly partying and drinking until well after 1 AM. Quiet hours simply are not enforced. Fortunately, we only had one night remaining, cut this trip short, just not worth the money we are spendjng.

I debated between 3 stars and 4 stars for this campground. I've been to a few better kOAs and quite…read morea few worse. I granted the 4th star based on how well run and managed the place is. It started when we made our reservation back in December of 2024. The place was closed for the season and my phone call went straight to voicemail. Within a few hours I got a call back and we had our reservation in place. Excellent Customer service. This was our first timne staying longer than 5 days at any campground. As I write this we are 7 days into a 9 day stay. This 9 day stay was startig in the memorial day weekend, so I made my reservation early. In fact I was a little worried because we spent the Friday of the long weekend at a campground near Buffalo NY and arrived here on Saturday where the party had already started. Check in was quick and easy along with being friendly. Our site, while gravel packed was perfectly level and really clean. It will be just as clean when we leave. The place was already packed for the holiday weekend. 2 years ago we stayed at a KOA near Washington DC on this holiday weekend. While that camground was really nice it was overrun by inconsiderate guests who aren't regular campgrounds. This place was crowded, but we still had a great time with little to worry about. There is about 10 times the normal amount of dogs in the campground this week and for the first time we are one of them. There is a national agility championship going on and many are staying here. By nature of the event these dogs are really well trained and having all of these dogs here hasn't been an issue. I mentioned our spot was perfect and easy to get hooked up. Its close to the office/store, the pool and bathhouses. IT is the beginning of the season and the pool is cold! But it is clean and super cared for. Can''t fault them for the cool spring! Bathrooms are important to me as we have a pop up. It has a shower, but with my mobility impairments showering in the camper isn't easy. This place has 4 bathrooms near us and one is labeled for handicap access. All of the bathrooms are clean, stocked, and in good condition. Because of the dirst roads the bathroom floors get dirty/muddy during the day, but they clean them twice a day it looks like. Other reviews will ding them for not having floor mats down, but your still walking on dirt there. Wear Shower shoes. 3 of the bathrooms have plenty of shelfs so you don't have to put your stuff on the floor. Oddly, the 4th bathroom , the handicappped one doesn't have shelfs but I made do. What it does have is a tub, grab bars, and a shower head that is as high as my 6'1 head. That is important to me as I have spinal fusion and find getting my head under shower heads that are at 5' very difficult. Plenty of hot water and it was well stocked. I am an early riser and was able to use this bathroom almost every day. On the first Saturday of the trip some lady was giving all 8 of her kids a bath at once, so I had to use one of the other. The office/store at first appears to be small, but there is a second room and everytime I needed something, I found it at a reasonable price. During our 9 day stay I walked down several times to get some ice cream treat and was greeted warmly each time. During the week we had a few clear nights and there was a pretty decent dark sky so we had a lot of stars to see and having a new moon helped. Also i am now using their wifi which was pretty good after the masses left! A minor negative point since I mentioned dark skies. The pool and kiddy pool are very nice and clean, but for some reason they put an EXCESSIVELY bright light shining on the kiddy pool at night. I'm sure it is for safety reasons, but jets heading to Boston Logan might mistake itfor a runway. Coming back to our camper from bathhouse is was blinding enough that I couldn't see the road unless I shielded my eyes. I would suggest a shroud around the light so they could keep the pool lit up and not have so much stray light. That really is my biggest complaint so I guess I am having a good time. The place was in a convienent location and we visited many historical sites when we weren't involved with agility stuff. IT was my wife and I , our daughter and family. (6) I would stay here again.
