I ordered the Saturday night Prime Rib special. It was over cooked and tough, the garlic mashed potatoes were tasteless and cold.. I had also ordered their onion soup and it came at the same time as our entrees. My wife had the Walley which was to be panned-seared, but looked like it was pouched. When the bill was received there was a charge for a chocolate martini which we did not order. When brought to the servers attention she said she'd take it off our bill, which she did with no apology. I generally do not post bad reviews, but this dinner certainly deserved it.

We got a table right at the main entrance and we were served promptly and pleasantly. I got help with ordering, which can be common for first timers, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. They have a nice tap list so getting a cold, refreshing beer was a must! My one critique if you will, the fries were limp.. not soggy but definitely not crispy. I didn't even bother finishing them, but the burger was filling enough that it didn't matter much. If I am in the area, I would stop here again and try a different burger, because they all looked so dang good!!

The only parking option I saw was on the street. Inside it's attractive with its own nautical character. Its food menu is burger centric and is kind of complicated to figure out. You complete a form that itemizes the kind of burger, fries, etc that you want. Even my waitress tried to help me and she got confused. Ha! I finally ordered a bowl of their beer cheese soup to start for $10.45. I then added an 8 oz grass fed beef burger with hand cut fresh fries for another $12.45. Yes, it was more food than I needed but I wanted to try the beer cheese soup which was delivered first with 4 pieces of sourdough bread. The soup was delicious being rich in cheesy flavor with cheese strings and bacon bits on top. It was a full bodied flavor soup and with the bread I could have made a meal of just this. After finishing the soup, the burger and fries appeared. It was a hearty and very good tasting burger on a quality bread bun. Also the fries were very good tasting with a good potato flavor. I couldn't finish it all but I wanted to. With a drink and tax it was about $28 before tip. I'm glad I had lunch here.

The bar area is adorable. Our bartender was so chatty and created perfect old fashions. The two dining rooms are equally adorable. The staff was fantastic and made us feel so welcome. The ladies at the hostess desk, the bartender and our server all offered warm hospitality. From appetizers to dessert, we loved everything. They offer classic supper club options as well as traditional German fare. House of Gerhard is not to be missed.

In the heat. Our server was genuinely good when he materialized, which wasn't as often as we'd have liked. Food: the cheese curds earned their reputation. The Mekts burger was fine -- solid, no complaints. The Reuben rolls, however, arrived looking exactly like what they were: a Sysco product plated with minimal ceremony. Hard pass next time. It was a busy sunny, Monday afternoon. We found out they offer a great $5 Martini Monday deal. We ordered and I expected a harsh, cheap tasting cocktail that would instantly give me a headache. My husband got home and they sent a burger with bbq sauce instead of the cubano. He went all the way back to get my sandwich and I can't even eat it. The ham is supposed to be deli ham, they put a huge chunk of a honey ham (like the ones you buy for Easter) with the brown sugar glaze. Are Cubans eating this kind of ham? No. Then there a sliced pork loin instead of slow roasted shredded pork with lots of garlic and oregano and citrus like a Cuban lechon would have. It's not even edible. I wanted so badly to like this. I just had back surgery and can't go anywhere. I was hoping they could get a sandwich right. It was horrible. I immediately gagged. I'm not a food snob, I'll literally eat just about anything but it has to actually taste good. I'm really sorry toad hall but yall need some cooking lessons.

It's been several years since our previous visit, and the only thing that ever seems to change here is the prices. The over-the-top (but dated) elegance, a commanding view of Lake Michigan, doting service, and well-prepared classics remain exactly as we remember. We made our reservations online and were seated promptly upon arrival. The cocktails are expertly mixed and generous in size (the Missus and I are Bloody Mary types). The days of a "free" relish tray are no more, but we ordered one as our app ($13) and the plentiful portion was more than enough for our party of 4. A basket of freshly-baked rolls accompanied by a thick slab of melty butter arrived next. Entrée prices include a choice of soup or salad and a side dish. Their baked French onion soup rivals most pub versions and the house-made salad dressings are exceptional. For my entrée, I could not resist ordering that old school supper club classic, Chicken Oscar. My dining companions went with chopped steak and chicken parmigiana. Everything was superb and the portions were so generous that we boxed up half to take home. For dessert, we wanted something a bit lighter than their caloric classics. Although not on the menu, the kitchen gladly doled out 1-scoop ice cream sundaes (they can also prepare a gold brick sundae). The staff will not rush you. Plan on spending an entire evening here, soaking up the nostalgia. Don't miss the bar with its spectacular view of the lake.
