What a great doctor! When my LensCrafters doc told me I had a cataract, he gave me a list of area doctors; when he mentioned that he'd had cataract surgery himself, I asked who did it? He said Dr. Brass. Good enough for me. Dr. Brass is a master of his art. He's done hundreds of cataract surgeries and my outcome was everything I'd expected. I'm a very technical guy who does a lot of research and I know what I want (perfect distance vision, lined bifocals for near vision, best night vision, and just one set of glasses I wear every waking minute.) He took all the time needed to answer my many questions and determine the best lens recommendation. His staff was on time (maybe a ten minute wait), friendly, responsive to my sense of humor, and skillful. I was impressed when, after doing a critical machine measurement of eye function, one member called another over to repeat the same process from start to see if they independently came up with the same answer (they did.) I like the concept of "measure twice - cut once." Surgery went fine. Fast, friendly, painless. Within a day, my cloudy eye vision went from that of Mr. Magoo to Chuck Yeager. Wow! A year later, I had the other eye done, this time with the addition of a femtosecond laser tool. It's expensive (not covered by insurance) but seems worth it in terms of accuracy and speed of healing. The second eye vision is now even slightly better than the first. My glasses include absolutely clear upper lenses (I like having eye protection, vs contacts) and the lowers are needed for reading. Dr. Brass runs a first class service. If you don't have transportation for getting to/fro on the day of surgery, they will send a free limo, even if you live almost an hour away. On the day of surgery, that evening, I was astounded to receive a personal call from Dr. Brass at his home, just checking in to make sure everything was going well. Very pleased. On October 3 and October 16 of this year,my entire life changed .Dr. Brass did my cataract surgeries, including Catalys Fentosecond Laser and ORA-Optiwave Refractive Analysis. As my eyes required extremely strong lenses that are not available, Dr. Brass said I will see like i have never seen before anyway, and proceeded to place the best ones available! My entire life was spent wearing very thick glasses and in 1961, i was able to start using gas permeable contact lenses, which were a life saver at that time. In the last few years i could see a noticeable deterioration of my sight. And just like that, into my life walked Dr. Brass!!!!!!!!! Earlier this year, Stosh had his eyes done at the VA, with Dr.Brass!!!!! As i learned rather quickly, Dr. Brass had a reputation that preceded him! The more I learned about him, the more i knew I was being led to him! Even then, I never knew the full extent of his brilliance, the most difficult and challenging cases he has taken on, the amazing technology he so masterfully uses to help so many! Yes i was led to him, and i thank God everyday that I was! A fun fact: Dr. Brass says i too am memorable! lol Most patients range between 1-2 1/2...... I am a 10! lol i guess my eyes were rare indeed! This Doctor among Doctors needs no advertisement of any kind in any way! LOL!!!!! My mom and I were directed to Brass Eye Center by a friend who had had cataract surgery with Dr Brass. She told us they were incredibly friendly, kind, and professional. She was right! If I could give six stars they would get six stars (or ten). Mom has now had both eyes operated on, with excellent results. Dr Brass is one of the best eye surgeons out there. Moreover, right after her second surgery, last week, my poor mom came down with a totally unrelated stomach bug and woke up--the day after surgery--feeling absolutely lousy and sick to her stomach. She HAD to go to the post-op visit, which was scheduled for 11 a.m. I couldn't possibly get her out of bed and to the Center right then, so called the Center and explained. They changed her appointment (at such incredibly short notice) to 2 pm. When I finally got her to the office, they were kind, understanding, got her seen to right away on a crowded afternoon, and even supplied a surgical mask for her (at my suggestion) so that no one else would get that nasty bug. The staff at Brass are the best--aside from going above and beyond for that visit, we have always been treated amazingly well by a friendly, pleasant, and highly competent staff, and Dr Brass himself is, hands down, the nicest doctor I've ever dealt with. Bravo all around!!!! This said, I've heard that their optical shop is expensive, and that's probably true. If you have run-of-the-mill eyes and just need glasses or contacts, go elsewhere and save some money. But if you have medical eye issues like cataracts, glaucoma, etc, you can't do better than Dr Brass and his staff. read more

I rate 5stars only because there is not 6. I recently went through the amazing cataract removal experience with Brass Eye Center and Dr. Brass. I had both eyes treated about 19 days apart. Prior to the procedures, I had a thorough evaluation and examination at the new location in Clifton Park. Because of that examination, it was determined I could benefit from the cataract removals. My future appointments were promptly scheduled. They were very accommodating. I had a desire to wait until the end of golf season. Reading the very informative given material, I knew almost everything that was going to take place during the surgeries. During my pre-surgery visits, all questions were answered. There were no surprises. I had watched the videos also. The nursing staff at the eye surgery center were very friendly and professional. Dr. Brass greeted me before each surgery, asked if there were any questions. It seemed to me, the surgeries were over in an instant. I was awake sort of. There was no pain, not even the, you may feel some discomfort statement. None. There was some discomfort after the procedure but that was gone by nightfall. Next day, nothing. I followed their eye drop regimen. Dr. Brass gave me a personal follow up phone call each evening. The follow up appointments the day after and a week after were made for my convenience. Scheduling was so easy and they are very accommodating. I would heartedly recommend Brass Eye Center to anyone needing eye care. I went to get new glasses, and was provisionally diagnosed with advanced cataracts that would not allow anything near good vision without surgery; and the recommended surgeon would not be able to see me for six weeks. I asked a friend, who recommended Dr. Brass. From the first contact with the office, I felt that things might be okay. My first meeting with Dr. Brass confirmed this feeling well before I met him. The key to any medical practice is not only the doctor but also the staff. The staff at Brass eye center are personable, professional, and are several cuts above in terms of relating to patients. Whether in-office checkup, pre-operation prep, or post-operation evaluation, the level of care is first rate. Dr. Brass helped me understand my options, set expectations that proved accurate, and instilled confidence through his attention to detail and patient-focused practice. His skill as an eye surgeon shows in patient outcomes. My vision is better than it has been in forty years (I'm 55), and even my near vision is better than I was told it was likely to be. It is now nine weeks since that first provisional diagnosis. My surgery went without complications, though had there been any the next-day followup and subsequent followup would have helped. On June 9th 2016 I had cataract surgery on my right eye. I found the office staff, and everyone involved with my care, to be professional and very pleasant, even when I was late for an appointment (oops). And yes, the thought of having surgery done on my eye, which you obviously can't shut, turn and look away, is a bit unnerving. Although Dr. Brass gave re-assurance that all would be well, nothing could have quelled the fear of eye surgery, in my mind anyway. But after having researched his track record, I knew he was probably right. Besides, you gotta do what you gotta do. The surgery went far better than I expected. It was all over in a blink (pun intended), and I was back home within 4 hrs from when I had left. I returned on Dec.19th to have the other eye done. This time my whole perspective had changed. It went just as well as the first, but with far less apprehension on my part. Although I am glad that humans have only two eyes, if we had a third, I would certainly have it's surgery done with this group. Oh and BTW, they have their own surgery center. Which I found, in my research, to be far easier and less expensive (due to insurance issues from what I was told by my company's HR dept.) than operations that are done at hospitals. read more

I recently had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Brass. I researched the practices in the area that participate with my insurance and asked my optometrist for her opinion. She strongly encouraged I see Dr. Brass. I was not disappointed. Dr. Brass and the Brass Eye Center staff in both the Latham and Clifton Park locations are top notch. The practice is highly professional. Everyone I met is friendly, respectful and encouraging. The staff at the Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center where my surgery was performed all spoke very highly of Dr. Brass which was an added affirmation of my choice especially as I was naturally a little anxious heading in to surgery. I've been a patient for over 10 years and have had a very positive experience every visit, both from the staff and Dr Brass.
