I would give this place a 4.5, but as that isn't an option, enjoy the 5 stars!
On our first day in Branson, we were planning on visiting a mini golf place before heading to Dixie Stampede. Before arriving in Branson, we thought we had read about an outdoor course along the lines of the alligator mini golf courses in Florida. We couldn't find one, so we decided to search for an indoor mini golf place and we stumbled upon Wild World for their "3D Glow In The Dark Mini Golf." We saw the mini zoo on their website and thought we would visit for just the mini golf.
Upon arrival, the lady at the register seemed genuinely surprised that we didn't want to do the zoo. So, for $16 a person, we decided to do their package of the zoo walk-through, mini golf, and the free arcade at the end. We did not have to pay for our 2 year old; their policy is that he is too young to touch any of their animals.
While I am from southern California and have passes for myself and family to the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Safari Park, and Sea World, I still found this mini zoo enjoyable, and worth the money we spent. We saw the large sea turtle and were able to watch them feed it. We were told this turtle was given to Wild World after the (I believe it was Florida) Department of Conservation rescued it, after it had been struck by a boat. After the injury, it can no longer control it's buoyancy and cannot be released into the ocean. That is why this tank is only 5 or so feet deep. I would estimate the tank to be about 30 ft by 30 ft. The tank and water were clean. Contrary to what Brandon B. might believe, sea turtles only beach themselves for lay their eggs; there is no need for the turtle to leave the water. The sea turtles that beach themselves at Sea World do this only as a learned behavior.
The bull sharks were in a decent sized aquarium. It certainly could have been bigger, if the facility was larger, but no one can re-create an ocean to display aquatic animals. This tank here at Wild World is larger than the back of house tanks used for dolphins and other animals at Sea World San Diego. My daughter got to feed a bull shark a large chunk of Bonito (I believe), which made for a fun video to remember the occasion by.
The crocodiles and alligators were fun to watch, and their enclosures were clean.
The snakes and other reptiles, as well as the birds, were no worse off than pet snakes, iguanas, and parrots, and in most cases, better off with the large enclosures provided. The birds were on top of their cages, interacting with staff and visitors.
The wolves and New Guinea Singing Dogs were also indoor exhibits. The exhibit for the wolves seemed a little small, while the Singing Dogs' seemed just about right. I did not notice any bad odors during my visit at all, and that includes the wolves.
On to Mini Golf! We love mini golf, and really did enjoy the course offered here. It is a shorter, 9 hole course, but it is very well done. There are some animal exhibits along the course, which is a nice touch. The aircraft crashed at the first hole is a real Cessna (150?). The only thing of concern here was that the bricks used to outline each hole were loose, not attached to the floor and easily tripped over.
The arcade was fun. Most of the games offered here are either computer based, or PS3 based. They were fun, but not at all the main attraction. An air hockey table would be a welcome addition.
There was a mechanical shark (mechanical bull with a shark attachment) that I didn't get a chance to ask about. Oh well.
Every staff member I encountered (3 or 4 people, including the cashier) were very friendly.
So, in closing, I would recommend Wild World to anyone visiting Branson with kids. As there are a lot of other things to do in Branson, I'm not certain I'll be back on my next trip, but I definitely enjoyed my visit. read more
