It in a plain low slung building with widely spaced tables, prompt service and good food. The traditional burger with homemade chips was perfect. The Philly was filled with sliced brisket. Great all-around American food for the hungry cowboy or cowgirl. Ranging from simple grilled cheese to hot open face roast beef who wouldn't want to stop here? Breakfast is served until 3pm for the traveler wanting to keep the morning going a bit longer in the day. The grilled ham and cheese was superb along with the home made chips, a staple in this part of the world. The hot roast beef looked fantastic with mashed potatoes and a side salad, and the burger special with fries was eaten quickly as well. For anyone with a nut allergy, there are sunflower seeds on the salad, but the servers will quickly get you a new one without them. Restaurant is split with a front (smoking) and back (non smoking) dining area. Plenty of seating in either area with a door to either as well. Service was excellent and friendly. Bathrooms were clean. Parking is around the restaurant or you can utilize the street. Come here hungry, there are some good options to pick from. read more

The waitress refused to serve us at 7:58pm claiming they were closing despite having an advertised closing time of 9:00pm on Google and Facebook and other patrons not yet served. Not sure what that was about but it sure felt as if they were refusing us personally. Not sure if it was the fact that we had masks or that my wife is Asian. With my best understanding, I just can't understand why this local restaurant, regardless of which "new" owner there is consistently poor. We were the only customers in dining room & waited 30 minutes for our order - a burger & chicken fried steak. Bother were had black burn marks & were way overcooked. Stopped for lunch on a road trip through Wyoming after visiting bighorn canyon with my wife and infant. We didn't know what time they closed because the hours were not on the door, but apparently we walked in 1 minute before closing. The owner was very gracious and still welcomed us and another couple in- the staff was friendly. The non smoking section was well isolated from the smoking area in front. Our burger and Philly sandwich came out quick and tasty. Toppings are reasonably priced for custom burgers. The sweet potato wedges we're very good and a nice variation on fries. Date: 08.31.17 1st time eating at this restaurant, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Since I was meeting someone for breakfast & was early, the waitress let me take pictures of the quaint, but comfy place while I waited. An hour later I got a call that the person wouldn't be coming, due to business issues in Cody. What better place to eat someone else's cooking? I ordered the Denver Scramble, with a side of bacon. The meal came with a fluffy pancake & hash browns. Talk about a meal for a lumberjack!! Wow... The scramble was melt in your mouth delicious. The pancake absorbed the syrup & was absolutely to good to be true. Add the bacon (3 thick slices) & hash browns * I'm talking food coma. I ate what I could & took the rest home. No cooking breakfast tomorrow. They also serve lunch & dinner. So I'll be trying them out again. Great wait staff, speedy service, delicious food & friendly atmosphere. Best breakfast place I've been in for many, many years. From French toast to Denver scramble to the Farmers breakfast, it's so good. Love how onions, peppers and other things are mixed in with hash browns. Greatest flavor. And the support staff is the most friendly anywhere. Loved this place! They are in process of changing name to Mustang Cafe, so if you see a "permanently closed" note on google maps, don't pay attention, go there anyway. We had simple sandwiches and a cold beer for lunch, the BLT was better than you make at home. Colt tomatoes, cold lettuce, warm bacon, good bread. And the beer was served in a frosty mug. Brandin' Iron and Mustang Cafe are the same place, one took over the other. The food and service is good. It can be a little pricy considering what you get. With inflation rather than increasing their prices they lessened the serving sizes, disappointing but - understandable. read more

My personal opinion is that this restaurant is not good. Nice staff but that is only part of any restaurant experience. I ordered a club sandwich with a side of jo jo's. The jo jo portion was very small and not very well seasoned or cooked. The sandwich was also small and not particularly good. I left hungry. There are not many choices in this town and particularly for sit down service and this restaurant is going through some sort of change. Maybe they will get better down the road. We were told this was the top spot in town for a sit down meal.. It's pretty much one of the ONLY restaurants in town, which is a bit expected for a small town, BUT...it was not a bad time for being one of the only options! The food was quick and tasty, though fairly simple, and the service was spot on and friendly. I am SO glad that right when we walked in, someone let us know quickly that there was an entirely separate non-smoking section. It's like its own building, but attached. We hadn't been to the Brandin' Iron since it was 're-branded'. It was previously the Rose Bowl, a local restaurant which had steadily declined in recent years. Our visit to the Brandin' Iron was refreshingly pleasant. Prior to our visit we had heard that the building smelled of old grease, not a pleasant thought. Well, that must have been before. The evening we went, everything was bright and shiny clean. I was able to stick my head in the kitchen as we left. We all know the cleanliness and order in the kitchen is a great indicator of employee pride, work ethic and quality, it was great. On to our meal. We went on a Thursday evening. We were immediately greeted and told we could sit where we wanted. Our server, Jared, greeted us promptly. They have a very adequate affordable menu. We ordered a Ruben sandwich, chicken fried steak dinner and the special that night, prime rib. I was shocked to hear that prime rib was offered on a week night. Normally in small towns, prime rib is only available Friday and Saturday's. Jared took great care of us, with drinks, salads, and freshly baked bread. We were served quickly. The Ruben was just right. The chicken fried steak was hand battered and fried. Not a SYSCO clone. I will admit, I am a prime rib snob. My prime rib, was easily the best cut of beef that I have had in the State of Wyoming. And Wyo knows beef. It was a large portion which I enjoyed, very tender, not fatty, and cooked just right. As we finished, what I assume is the owner/manager came by to ask how our meal was. She was very pleasant and seemed to actually care, not just a token walk-by. We were all very pleased with our dining experience, the food, the service, the professionalism. We will certainly return. *There is a notice on the menu about credit cards. That because of rising card rates that they will add, I believe, 2 or 3% to cover their fee. I see no problem with this. It rewards cash customers and helps to keep their menu items very affordable. read more

Oh! I love this place! I don't come here often because I don't eat out regularly. But when I do come, the waitstaff tends to our every need the food smells as great as it tastes! Everything is cooked just the way you want it. When we have guests checking into the hotel, we send them this way for food. How can we not! The back of the restaurant is a non smoking section while the front is smoker friendly. They did a great job separating the building into these two parts. The decorating. Is rustic and sweet! AWESOMENESS!! After traveling several hours, my hotel "fluffy blueberry cardboard" aka waffle was long gone. I was ready for a real breakfast. We were passing thru Lovell, read the reviews & saw breakfast was served til 3:00 (update its now 4!) Had a little reservation when I saw they offer a smoking area. Worry no more...there are 2 entrances. As soon as we walked in we were warmly welcomed & informed this was the smoking side & nonsmoking was down the hallway thru a door. Needless to say if we would've came in the correct door we would've never known smoking was an option. Very nice that they cater to everyone. Breakfast was fantastic! The bacon, oh my!!!! meaty, thick, cooked perfectly & super tasty. Everything was fresh & didn't take forever to pop out of the kitchen. Service was top notch & friendly, orders were accurate, drinks were replenished before they were even half empty. Great value for all the food you get. Excellent soup, best hot beef, liver and onions ever!! I even tipped the chef! Nice staff too. Recommend. Ditch the smoking section. People should go outside...but, this is very small town Wyoming. I stopped in Lovell during a driving rainstorm, and had dinner here. The staff was friendly. I ordered the special, New York strip. The meat was ok, a little fatty and gristly, but it came accompanied by a wilted iceberg lettuce salad, a few meager over cooked frozen veggies, and instant mashed potatoes with canned gravy. Why, when the potato state is right next door, a restaurant would serve instant in this day and age is beyond me. Is it really too hard to boil a potato and mash it?
