My company vehicle was in need of a brake job. Due to reasons beyond my control, I was not allowed to take my vehicle to the dealer like I wanted to. After making a few calls around town and getting quotes and availability, I landed at Brake Check. My previous job of over 10 was in the automotive field. Brake Check has always been known to have cheaper prices, inexperienced labor, and they use cheaper parts. Their reputation has not always been the greatest. That being said, I was hopeful their reputation had gotten better. I pulled into the facility and was greeted promptly by the gentlemen I spoke to on the telephone, with an iPad in his hand. I gave him my keys, and told him to call me when it was done. I dropped it off around 9 AM. The facility looked newer, and looked clean. So far, so good. About an hour later or so, I received a text on my phone. In the text was a breakdown of the work, to include the current condition of my pads and rotors. Included was the original agreed price, itemized. I was impressed by the use of technology. Still had high hope vibes going. The whole day went by. No word, no call. Figured it was time for a phone call to check on my car. Welp.. it was done, and had been for a while. Someone fell down on the job and did not call. No harm, no foul, because as stated above, no hurry on my end and was patient. However, bad business practice. I pulled into the parking lot, and noticed my car backed in, windows down. This sort of pissed me off, as anyone could have gotten into my car and stolen my items out of the back seat, or glove box. What sort of numbskull does that? Oh wait.... Brake Check.. I got my car, paid, was out the door. Drove home, and no problems. Figured the job was well done. Fast forward to a month later. I get a nail in my tire, which requires a trip to Discount Tire. My car is pulled into the bay, and shortly thereafter, one of the shop employees comes back to let me know a lug nut on the wheel has been over tightened, and cannot be removed. Repeated attempts were made to remove it, but they had to snap the lug off of the hub to remove the wheel and tire. The last person to service the wheel was Brake Check, so this means they over torqued the lug nuts with the air gun and did not use proper torque specifications. Another possibility is they cross threaded the nut, and compensated by over torquing it with the air gun. I left Discount and went to the Brake Check closest to me in Castle Hills. I informed them the New Braunfels location over torqued my lug nut and a lug was broken for the flat repair. This location owned up to the mistake, and informed me the fee to repair it would be $22.00. Stuck in a bad spot, I was forced to accept the charge. Also, the lug nut would not match the other ones as they had to order it from the dealer. What the duck?? Oh yeah, Brake Check. I also had informed them that I had noticed the front brakes squeaking and grinding when I stopped. Luckily, a corporate employee got wind of this when I was there. Long story short, he came to the front and informed me that I would not be paying anything. Also, the grinding noise was the result of the caliper bolt not being correctly tightened. He also apologized for the shoddy work, and called the New Braunfels store to remind them about the correct tightening procedures. In good time, my car was fixed and back on the road. The initial squeak and grinding noise went away for a day, but came back. Now, when my car stops, it sounds like I have rocks trying to stop my rotors, and grinds to a halt. This would be from them using inferior cheaper parts, and not surfacing my rotors correctly. The only place where credit is due, and the two star rating as opposed to one, is the use of technology and good service. The process was also well explained, although it was poorly executed. Overall, would I recommend Brake Check? Hell no. I should have went with my gut and just paid a higher price for better quality. Live and learn. Glad this is not my personal vehicle. Go somewhere else my Yelp! friends. Steer clear of this place. Unless you want a car that sounds horrible when it stops. read more

Highly recommend! I took my 6 yr old SUV, with 85,000 miles, in for an inspection. I fully expected a big estimate for repairs. George took me out to show me what they found and I was just waiting for the bad news. He told me my brakes still had about 40% left and he advised that I really don't need brakes yet! First time in my life I didn't hear over $1,000 estimate. I did get my OEM tires replaced and aligned and my car drives like new again. My brakes were starting to make a rubbing sound so I took them here. I only chose this location because it's nearby and open on Saturday and they do oil changes.. When I got there I pulled up on the lane with the arrows. No one acknowledged me for several minutes. I drive to the front, park, and go into the lobby. I again wait and no one acknowledges me. I finally walked into the garage and asked someone working on a car where to go. It took 30 minutes from the time I arrived there to get checked in. Very disappointing. They tried to up sell me on a few items but overall they weren't too pushy. I guess the oil change was fine. I have to agree with others. The customer service here sucks. read more

Should be Break-Check. Mistakes happen, however reputable companies will stand behind their work and try not to lose good customers. I needed a simple oil change prior to a long road trip and went to the local BC franchise in New Braunfels. Afterwards, during our trip, my vehicle intermittently idled roughly and stalled several times, twice in heavy traffic. When I returned, I had the dealer diagnose the problem. The technician at Brake Check had failed to re-install the air filter housing properly, which allowed unfiltered air to contaminate the fuel injectors. The local manager, a "corporate director", immediately admitted that this was their fault and he promised to take care of reimbursing me for the $460 diagnosis and injector cleaning. I was impressed at the apparent honesty and directness. Then weeks went by with no action from BC, though the local manager always told me that corporate had approved the reimbursement and was definitely going to take care of it. Finally, the manager dodged and gave me a cell number for his boss, Juan, because Juan was a VP and he is now personally taking care of it. Juan acted like a jerk tried to blame the dealer that fixed their mistake. Also Juan said they would not pay the full amount, only a small part of it, less than 1/3. They never followed through on that either. This company does not stand by their work or keep their word. This was a lesson in how to provide bad customer service. Avoid them!! read more

I called yesterday and told them my problem. Got an appointment for today at noon. When I arrived, Daniel walked out to greet me. He said Alex was the one who would be working on the car. I tried to follow him inside, but he told me to stay at my car; he'd bring Alex out. It was 85 degrees outside and I don't handle heat well. Alex and Daniel came out so I could repeat to Alex what I said to Daniel. Alex turned to him and said, "I don't have time for that!" He pointed to the bay full of vehicles and told him all the things he had to do for those people. Obviously Alex and Danny don't communicate with each other. They walked me closer to the shop, yet kept me outside! Danny told me I would need to drop off my car because it would take all day. He did not care that I didn't have "a friend who could take me home"; I'd just have to wait. I told him I'd have to call back for an appointment next week. FINALLY, we went inside and he gave me a business card. I am furious that they didn't let me inside to begin with; I kept telling them it was hot out. (Had I passed out from the heat, I'd have retained legal counsel!). I am also angry that I ended up wasting a day for essentially nothing! To all customers looking for great service I advise you to look far away from Brake Check in New Braunfels, Texas. I highly do NOT recommend this place please beware. My experience with Brake Check was something I hope no one ever has endure. Part of a great service is having integrity to let a customer know when you are not equipped to do the job. In my case with my 2014 Hybrid Prius they were not able to do the job and sold me brakes and rotos that would not fix the initial problem with the ABS brake system. A simple inspection by the service manager would have prevented me from going through all of this.... I had walked into Brake Check with warning lights on my dashboard about my ABS brakes and the service manager took my vehicle without even inspecting what the nature of the cause was. They sold me new brake rotors and pads that would turns off the warning lights for only 20 miles from leaving the lot. When I returned, I asked several questions that they could not answer they told me to just ask Toyota about their brake system rather than helping me with the knowledge they should have themselves. You would think in today's age that they would work with many hybrid Toyotas, but I guess I am not the only reason they'd be losing business in that department. I ended up doing the research myself and found out they put in brake rotors and pads that are not equipped to fix the initial ABS Brake system problem to notify me when the system is faulty. Rather than fixing they= initial problem they sold me what they could and called it a day. I contacted the VP from Brake Check Corporate who told me that they were the right brakes but that they were not able to fix the initial problem and that there must have been some miscommunication. Rather than communicating with his service manager he left the problem as it was. Mistakes are made and I understand that but the lack of consideration in walking with a customer to their car and taking the time to inspect the vehicle is what baffles me and the inability to have a line of communication with the front line of your service throws me over the edge. There is no accountability in this establishment, and I would hate for someone to be out of 1000 dollars like I am now. No refund, no consideration, and no communication. read more

Wes and Alex's customer service was absolutely amazing. We pulled up around 5pm with a loose brake caliper that apparently wasn't installed correctly after they were removed and painted by another business. Although they were extremely busy they agreed to look at and fix the loose brake caliper, they also took the time to check for proper installation of all calipers in which they discovered another loose caliper with missing bolts. We can't thank them enough for considering our safety and squeezing us in by working after closing hours. They went above and beyond, they truly are an asset to your business. read more

Twice now I've gone to this location to get my oil changed and waited in my car while 5 employees looked at me and no one ever came, even though I was right in the Bay Area and no other car was in line and they only had one car in one bay. Both times I got out of my car walked in the Bay Area and waited to be acknowledged. Both times employees looked at me and didn't say a word and all 5 employees kept looking at their one car. And both times I got back in my car and drove to the Express Lube on Walnut by the HEB and was acknowledged right away, offered water and coffee while inside, and got a good price and very little wait. I was in the area and took a gamble with this location. After seeing the reviews I was expecting bad service. However, Wes who I believe is the manager, took care of my vehicle. Not only did he ask me what I was concerned about, but he continuously took me to see my car and showed me the problem (struts and alignment issue) explaining what needed to be done. He was not pushy with the work needed on my vehicle. He gave me options and the quote given was what I paid for in the end. Beware! New Braunfels location. I went a total of three times. First time I was told my wheels weren't balanced and that's why they couldn't do the alignment. That made no since but I took my truck to Discount and had the tires rebalanced. Still paid. Took the truck back. This time they said they couldn't do the alignment right because the ball joints are bad. Fair enough. I replaced all the ball joints. Third try.... They broke my license plate holder off. Went in to get my alignment on my truck. While waiting a mechanic comes to him and tells him that his license plate is not displayed right on my truck and I could get a ticket. I precedes to follow him to the truck and you can clearly see the plate had been broken off. It had been broke off and then tucked into my bumper to cover up the mistake. I tried to tell them that that was not like that when I got there. After they wanted to argue I did use choice words. They were very rude and defensive (manager included) and proceeded to keep telling me that it was like that. I pulled up our home camera to show them that when I pulled out of our driveway the license plate was on and secured! I would not have been upset if they would of just taken ownership, that one of their mechanics accidentally broke it. Instead they try and cover it up and cast the blame on my husband. Their approach is to haphazardly install crap products that fail, then string you along until the warranty is up, then tell you that an entire new brake system is needed. Rinse and repeat. I tried to give them a second chance, nope. Poor mechanic service, could not fix the problem but still wanted to charge me for it. Finally identified the problem, would not budge on the labor, tried to charge me $100 extra for a part, told me to bring my own in, then when I arrived with it, told me they don't accept outside parts. I got hired here and showed up early 30mins after they opened I was the only technician there with the manager. I asked if they're coming in and he said "it's just another one of those days" meanwhile at least 6 customers cars we're waiting and a couple of them standing at the door. It was my first day and my toolbox was at my parents house 2 hours away so i came in with a tool bag I got constantly judged and looked down upon for borrowing tools and bringing some energy. after an hour or two they figured out that I was still missing paper work. As I was leaving a customer was impatiently waiting because they have not been helped or talked to, I talked to him as i was leaving to help and got lecture about not being trained enough to talk to customers. This is the third time I brought my car to the location to get my wheels aligned. I have been told a different solution each time I have come in to the alignment. The last visit consisted of getting new struts on the car, which "supposedly" would fix my alignment problem. Neither the Manager Jerry, nor John have been able to give me a significant reason for the car not being aligned. The just keep giving different excuses. I also am not pleased with the parts and labor differential. No way did the two KYB GR2 Gas struts cost 282.70. That is an absolutely absurd price. If I was told correctly by Russel that the parts cost 282$, I would have never came to Brake check in the first place. He informed me that he could only tell me the total cost of the labor and parts, not separate the two for the estimate. It is unprofessional to tell a customer that we can align your the car, if you know that you will never be able to align that particular car. I would not have purchased the lifetime warranty if that were the case. I want my money back from the lifetime alignment and I need a formal explanation of how you come up with a cost of 282.70 for two small struts. With that said I want a 15% discount on the whole job because that it did not fix any part of my car. read more

The absolute worst place to get ANY service offered. About 1 year ago I went in for a simple alignment. After take an extremely long time (6 hlurs) they said I needed a bolt kit and it would be $200. I got a second opinion by a dealership a d was told they had no reason to replace anything for an alignment or any other bolts on the truck. Here I am 1 year later getting an alignment done. I set an appointment and it has now been 2 hours after the appointment and my truck has not moved from the parking lot. I was never told it was going to be delayed or for how long. I did hear that a Maseratti was going to be coming in on a 4 o'clock appointment and it was HAPPILY moved directly into the bay while my truck STILL sits waiting.
