I had one of the best experiences at Brake Check 16th Ave , NE Calgary. We had some creaking noise from the car and I called the Brake Check to find out if they charge to inspect the car. They said it's free. We took the car and they checked it and the front tyre was not fixed properly and they did it for FREE. He was not ready to charge me and I was so surprised and amazed. I took my Toyota Sienna to Kal Tire to install a new tire. They told me I needed a brake job since they were almost gone. Cost ? $1.100 aprox. I took the vehicle to Brake Check on 16 Ave NE for a second opinion and pricing and Kevin Fraser checked my brakes and show me that the brakes were still good for another year or so. Finding a good repair shop can be a challenge. My Toyota dealership wanted to charge me $1150 for new pads rotors and calipers. It seemed too expensive to me, so I checked on Yelp and they recommended a few places including the Brake Check at 131 16th Ave NE. They were the friendliest when I called and when I brought my car in they were awesome! They had the inspection done within 20 mins and repaired my brake (pads and rotors, no calipers needed) within the hour! The cost (with a new headlight bulb), only $374. Wasn't very impressed with this location. Had to make an appointment even after being told on the phone that if u try early in the morning "We could probably get you in ". Also they tried the up sale on me. A little aggressive for my taste. I suppose this was all because of me being a women. I doubt they would have been as aggressive if my husband was there. read more

His prices are much lower than his competition and they do it right !! For women who are often taken advantage of this is definitely the place to go. After TWO shops urged me for new brakes, I took in to Kevin who assured me at least 50% left on the current brakes. It's great to have an honest mechanic who cares for his customers. I asked Kevin to conduct the 'Free Inspection' on June 15, 2015 and he agreed. He directed me to wait in the lobby. He returned 5 minutes later and responded 'The brakes are good; there is no safety concern'. I drove away feeling confident my truck's brakes are good. Two days later the squealing remained and my concern grew. I went to a mechanic who inspected and found my brake pad on driver's side was down to the metal and had scraped the rotor. This mechanic fixed the issue. In conclusion, the 'Free Inspection' done by Brake Check is not reliable and is misleading; I DO NOT recommend this place. read more

I was recently very frustrated with the service I got at the 16th Ave location. Their website says open 8am-1pm on Saturdays and I drove from Airdrie arriving at 11:30am. Upon arriving I was informed that they were only open until 12pm and they were closing in 15 minutes (which would be 11:45?). They were not willing to even look at my vehicle and their lifts were empty. I will not go back. Clearly they are not worried about loosing a customer. read more
