I keep saying it: if Jimmy Abdon recommends a guy, you know you're going to have a good experience…read more I brought in my car because the cruise control was blinking (and not wanting to work). Within half a day, Rich was able to determine what the problem was, and I was cruisin' again by midday. I also appreciate him calling me and telling me what the issue is and the cost upfront before starting work. The price I think was fair, all things considered. An anecdote if you'll allow it: A millionaire's yacht engine breaks. No one can fix it; so they bring in a mechanic with 40 years experience. She looks the engine up and down, takes out a small hammer and gives it a few taps. The engine roars back to life! A week later our millionaire gets a bill for $10,000. He can't believe it; and asks for an itemized bill. What he gets back reads: Tap with hammer = $2. Knowing where to tap = $9,998. An inescapable fact: [modern] cars are expensive, complex machines. If they were simple, there'd be no need for mechanics. It's not the tapping that's expensive, it's knowing where and how to tap. Where I admit I struggled is that the fix was to reconnect the actuator, and the bill came back for $165 (all in - one hour of labor). Despite the price, I realize full well: 1. There was a process in getting to the issue, and then verifying it was fixed, involving both road and shop testing. 2. The reality was likely more technical that itemized in the invoice. My Ikea desk seems it would be ~10 parts coming together in under 30 minutes no sweat. In reality it took two people two hours, intermingled with profanities. 3. Tapping with a hammer (reconnecting a part) is easy, having the skill set to determine how and where to tap is not.

I dropped by on an early…read moreweekday morning to ask if they could mount a brand new set of winter tires (bought from an online dealer) to a set of spare rims. The place was a ghost town and the staff still refused, saying it was not worth their time even though I was paying for it. On a different occasion, my wife's car had a flat on the way home so we had to get it patched here. They also did a complementary vehicle check and recommended a new engine air filter. We declined the service and went home. Five minutes after leaving the store, the engine was shaking itself out of the car every time I got on the gas pedal like it was being choked (not a problem before visiting the store). After limping home, I opened the engine air filter box and found a ball of leaves/debris shoved into the airbox, blocking the filter and preventing any air from getting into the engine. After cleaning out the airbox, the car ran perfectly fine as it did previously when I drove to the automotive parts store to get a new engine air filter.

Other places quoted me that the wait may be up to 4 or 5 hours long! Luckily, Firestone, which happened to be only less than 5 miles away, took me right in, fixed my tire and put it back on my car quickly. I was in and out within 45 minutes! Picked up a Dunkin iced coffee next door and went on my merry way. Big shout out to service manager Jason Basile for taking care of me!
