She didn't even tell me her name or ask me mine. Or even ask if I had sensitivities and scalp problems. The lady washed my hair about three times and the scalp massage was rough and unbearable to a degree. She had very STRONG hands, uncomfortable if you aren't used to heavy scratch on your scalp. But it felt like it relaxed me I guess. No salon grade products were used on my hair... and the brand was unclear or not the actual brand used in the container. so it's unclear what they are putting in your hair. When she rolled my hair without styling product so frizz was not tamed and rollers weren't neat. So I am unsure how my hair came out bone straight. When wet the stylist comb my hair without fine tight comb from the ROOT instead of the ends and I could feel my hair snapping. Which is a big no with ethnic hair you have to detangle first with wide comb first. So the stylist did not detangle curly/ mixed ethnic hair properly. Which is shocking as this is a Dominican salon that should know how to deal with curly/ wavy hair texture. Not sure if I will go back due to lack of transparency and care around what was used on my hair. Which is a major concern.

When we arrived, two braiders began working on each child. One daughter was getting box braids, and the other was getting medium twists. While the braider working on the twists was moving quickly, I noticed she wasn't twisting the hair tightly enough. When I asked about it, she told me she didn't want the style to be too tight on my daughter's scalp. After both girls were finished, their hair was dipped in hot water to seal the ends. However, I noticed the ends of my daughter's twists were already looking loose, so I pointed it out and they dipped them again. When it was time to pay, the owner suddenly tried to increase the price, claiming he hadn't checked with the braiders. This was despite the fact that I had already confirmed the style and price beforehand. We were running late, so I didn't want to argue. He could tell I was unhappy and eventually charged me the original quoted price. We left and went to a nearby restaurant. Less than 20 minutes later, our server walked over and handed me strands of hair, saying, "I think this belongs to your daughter." Her twists were literally unraveling and shedding hair all over the restaurant. I had just paid over $150, and the style was already falling apart before we had even finished dinner. Several stands were completely stripped and all the hair fallen off. When I returned to the salon, the braider refused to take responsibility. Instead, she blamed me because I had asked her to trim the ends. Any experienced braider should know that if the ends are trimmed, they still need to be properly sealed. There was absolutely no accountability, no apology, and no genuine effort to make the situation right. My daughter is only 8 years old and had already sat through hours of braiding, only to leave with a hairstyle that unraveled almost immediately. The entire experience was extremely unprofessional, from the attempted price increase to the poor quality work and lack of customer service. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid this salon. There is a reason the shop was empty on a Sunday afternoon. I have photos and videos documenting the condition of my daughter's hair less than 20 minutes after leaving.

YES!…read more The owner of the very wonderful, very well-run nail salon (Acqua Nails) in which this hair haven exists runs a tight ship. Everything is sparkling clean; appointments run on time; hair products are in stock but no one pushes you to buy them (yay). And can I get an Aveda? Yes indeed. I have hair that's on the long-ish side, and that's, erm, "multi-faceted" - ridiculously straight on top, outrageously curly everywhere else. Stacy does a great job of cutting it so it behaves even with my very minimalist attention (I won't do anything except brush and go, except maybe the occasional spritz of Aveda hairspray). Something of a miracle. She's also been doing a great job on my color, and listens and remembers things like which line of products I prefer they use when I'm there (I like Aveda, dislike Kerastase). Cost is not cheap, but also not the highly overpriced figures I've paid at other Bethesda salons. Plus - and this is a big one - it's not noisy. No blaring music, no twenty blowdryers going at once. The woman who does the shampoos is lovely, gentle, and thorough. Four stars instead of five because about two years ago, they stopped computerized scheduling (why?), and have a handwritten book. So, at the end of the year, if they don't have the new book for the new year yet, they can't schedule my next appointment (and then I forget and end up with gray roots - yikes). It also means no more automated texts to remind me of my upcoming appointments, which I actually miss. Lastly, they don't accept American Express, and I really wish they would, 'cause I like me my points.
