James then came in to further evaluate before the actual job was to be done. These guys all listened to our thoughts and concerns and gave us exactly what we wanted. We had a grisly wooded area cleared behind our house and the transformation was huge. A couple days before the job was to be done, we of course had rain. We had a very limited schedule to get the job completed and these guys worked their a**es off to meet it. I wish I knew the guys' names that stayed until 9 pm that night working - I think it was Santos and his crew. Thanks to all of you involved! We are happy and would definitely call you for future jobs!

Jason and Ashley told us our project would take four days, and it ended up taking three months. Our…read moreproject entailed laying stone tiles in a small patio area and constructing a countertop. At first, Jason and Ashley seemed professional because they accommodated our style choices. We were clear with our wishes and put everything in writing to communicate as openly as possible. Unfortunately, Jason did not understand a written, critical request to lay the stone in a pattern, so it was installed in an arbitrary, senseless way. When we pointed it out to Jason, he denied that he did anything wrong, then said it was our fault because we "didn't catch it in time." This demonstrated his lack of integrity. Over the next 3 months, he and Ashley went back and forth on whether they would fix their mistake. For weeks on end, we would hear nothing from them, despite multiple attempts to contact them. At one point, Jason came and ripped up our entire backyard, causing our backyard, driveway, and garage to be unusable - covered in broken stone and dust, and then left it that way for a month, with no communication. In the rare instances that they saw or talked to us, they were very rude. Jason was extremely sexist, interrupting me mid-sentence, pointing his finger at me to "silence" me, and only allowing my husband to answer his questions. Finally, after months of begging, Jason re-installed the stone. This took several days, and we had to stay home from work at the last minute, to make sure everything was done the correct way. The whole time, Jason and all of his workers were tremendously disrespectful. Jason said we tried to "screw" him by asking the company to pay for its mistake. Also, their workmanship was awful. They wanted to use chipped/broken stones for the repair. Lastly, they ignored our requested dimensions of the countertop and significantly changed its size. We are glad to be done with AllOutdoors. We want to believe Ashley and Jason are good people, but we would never trust them to do any work on our home again. Obviously, we don't recommend them.

He also came loaded with some terrific recommendations about plantings that we can't wait to try out when the heat calms down a bit. The estimate he gave us was fair and he was willing to work with us on it. Additionally, he showed up on time. He always left the place clean and looking good when they left for the day. We had talked through everything that was to be done and he did it all. He stayed in touch with me throughout the entire process (how often has THAT not happened with some contractors?) We will be using his services again in the Fall when we decide to put new plants in. Remarkably, as a result of his work on our yard, three other neighbors inquired of him future work. He's a good guy and I strongly recommend talking to him about having work done in your yard.

This is not a pleasant chore, but it has to be said…read more Overall, the work was rushed and shoddy. We asked him to blow the leaves off the back of our property, as well as remove small trees and brush. He only did a portion of the work, and we had to remind him we wanted the entire back done, despite making this a top priority in our first meeting. Even then he left out a portion, and had to be reminded again to do what had been asked. The flowers and plants were planted without due attention to detail, as well as insufficient fertilizing with the supplies we had bought for that purpose. We've had to go over all the plantings and do them properly afterwards. He transplanted some azaleas from the front to the back yard, and only one of the three was done properly. Again, we've had to fix what he had done improperly. The river rocks spread over our garden beds was done well at first, but as the job progressed it got sloppier. I spent quite a bit of time rectifying this situation by adding more rocks and making it neat. There's just very little attention to detail evident in the work he did, and not a great deal of care was applied. There was always a sense of the work being rushed instead of applying the care it needed. Our lawn has felt the effects from his truck and excavator driving on it, and some spots will not be growing back without replanting. It looked like a battlefield when he was done. If you do hire BDS, make sure you are watchful for his use of the truck and excavator. They can do real damage, as they did to our property. I will also add that he did damage to our driveway, and refuses to acknowledge it. We had a crack in the driveway before he came, and now it is much more than a crack, and that part of the driveway is collapsing into pieces. I asked him to send me pictures he said proved that he didn't do it, but he never did, despite being asked twice. The neighbors have also commented on the damage that he did. All I can say is, if you are considering BDS, you've been warned.

I am an out of state owner of this rental property, so I am forced to rely on trust and pictures. Joaquin, the owner, professionally articulated the project from start to finish. For a relatively small job, he personally visited the property multiple times to plan and measure all aspects of the project. His ideas and experience impressed me. But, most of all, he takes great pride in his work and backs his word. When the job was over, he tested the drainage to ensure water drained properly in the grated drain system and the well that he installed. Additionally, he installed a retaining wall to further help with the drainage issues. He took the time to explain to me every detail on the phone, took and sent excellent pictures, and overall did phenomenal work! I'm happy with the project which resolved the problem that I have been dealing with for years. Finally, Joaquin's estimate and prices were on the mark. Not once did I even consider I was overpaying for anything. He broke down the cost of materials and the number of hours of labor. I plan to use JL & Sons again for fencing and some repair work on a screened porch. Very reliable, honest, and fair - an easy 5-star evaluation that I am happy to write and provide a reference.
