2 stars for being the only henna place in Cleveland and that is there redeeming quality. I was here at once before and my only issue was the styling... however at my most recent visit I was left more in shock than awe. First I made it clear that I would need to leave at 6 (I had a 4:30 appointment, and per my last experience it shouldn't have been an issue). I stated I didn't need to have my hair dried just my bangs and we'd be good to go. Everything went well until the washing portion. The stylist left halfway through the wash (I still had soap in my hair!) to go tend a guest who had walked in to schedule an appointment. I was not the happiest but I was understanding. Part of my appointment included a bang trim. Sadly, the cut ended up uneven due my curly hair and I had to point out areas that she missed. I paid and was on my way. However when I got home, I realized I had chunks of henna still in my hair, chunks of henna stuck to my skin and clothing. Luckily henna is natural but it didn't stop my skin from changing color and getting irritated. I had to apply cream to stop the irritation. I had to take shower with three washes to get the dried chunks out of my hair and my shirt was dyed. I am extremely disappointed and though I greatly enjoy what henna does for my natural red hair, I will need to find another place to go because this experience has turned me off to this salon. read more

EDIT: The staff of Bozalodz has changed, and I really don't feel like I can endorse it with the furvor I had previously. I'm really not a fan in its current state. ------- Bozalodz II is a shiny new diamond in Tremont! Nestled on the corner of West 10th and Literary, this looks like your basic brick mom-n-pop shop from the outside, but inside it's a whole other world. First of all, the space is HUGE! I've gone to a lot of "hip" salons in the area where you're crammed into a small space and you feel like you're seated on top of other clients. At Bozalodz, there's a roomy waiting area, spacious cut and wash stations, and very private waxing and massage quarters. The best part? The salon is broken up into two areas- one separate salon off to the side where they use more harsh, traditional hair chemicals and treatments, and the other where they use all natural, non toxic products. This is awesome for folks like me with chemical and scent allergies. (And whatever they use in my hair leaves it looking fabulous and is lightly and deliciously scented!) The atmosphere is soothing and serene. It smells wonderful in there- certainly not that typical stinky salon perfumey smell. The music is on point, and the space is filled with gorgeous woodwork and local art. I see two beauticians there- Rachel for waxing services and Roxanne for hair cuts/style/color. Both are very professional, do an excellent job, and have extremely affordable prices. I am somewhat shy about letting people touch my skin (especially with hot wax!) but Rachel makes me feel at ease and is quick and skilled. Roxanne is super versatile and can do anything from the most basic cut to some pretty wild stuff. What I like best about her is that when I have a half- cocked, crazy hair idea that might damage my hair or won't look good in the end, she talks me out of it and comes up with an alternative that always leaves me satisfied. Both Roxanne and Rachel are very creative and talented. On top of all that, they have local handmade goods for sale, including a line of non-toxic botanical cleaners, soaps, and beauty products that are also reasonably priced. Yikes, I'm sad to read some of these reviews. I went to Bozalodz with a groupon for full highlights. I wish I could remember the girls name; I know she was not an owner. I told her I liked keeping my hair a light blonde but was bored with the lack of dimension. She did a fantastic job of keeping my hair light and bright with just enough lowlights to give it an extra "pop". I only went once but plan on going back. The atmosphere is probably not for everyone. I like the laid-back atmosphere; it feels like a true local business which makes me feel like I'm supporting the neighborhood. read more

Don't do it. Just don't do it. My pedicure was putting my feet in a plastic tub of water (yup, like the one for dishes) and my manicure was only 2/3 of every nail (no I'm not kidding). I did use a groupon, but I was trying to check out some local salons in the area... and I would not go back. read more

I first encountered Bozalodz II after purchasing a Groupon for a haircut. I am pretty low when it comes to hair maintenance--only wash it a couple times each week, don't blow dry/straighten/or curl it regularly--I'm more of a "wake up and go" type of person. Because of this, I am often disappointed with haircuts because they straighten my hair and then cut it or blow dry it in a way that I would never possibly be able to replicate at home. I told Kelly, the owner, my hair situation and she absolutely got it. I couldn't believe it, someone who finally had the same hair philosophy as me! And since she has been in the business so long, I could definitely tell she knew what she was doing. I have finally found a hair stylist that I can remain loyal to! I have also gotten my eyebrows waxed by Alex, and no complaints there either. read more

I got a haircut with a groupon and I overall I was pleased. I LOVED the way all the products smelled and like the fact they were all natural. I had the owner cut my hair and she washed and blow dried it too. She explained how the way she cut the bangs I wanted worked with the natural part and wave in my hair. She really seemed to know what she was doing. I told her I just wanted my hair "cleaned up" and didn't specify how much I wanted off. She told me afterward that it was half an inch, which was fine, especially since I didn't specify, but some people care about that stuff so it probably would have been better for her to discuss that beforehand. It was also a little confusing when I walked in and when I paid because they don't have a front desk area. But other than that I really have no complaints. I hear she makes natural cleaning products too so I'll be back in to buy some of those! read more

I love the Henna options for my hair that are available here. There are very few salons that do actual natural henna application and I am thrilled to have found this one. I let my hair go natural gray; but it was very mousy and not flattering. I did not want to return to box color with chemicals that damage. The owner Kelly worked with me to find a henna tone that I love; it covers my gray completely and without damaging chemicals. It is the most flattering hair shade I have ever had. Their prices are very reasonable and the cut was high quality. They take the time to do things right, I love the fact that my hair has nice tones, looks shiny and I finally have a color solution that is natural and healthy. The music and atmosphere are very relaxing as well and I look forward to my next henna appointment. So glad I found them. read more

I redeemed my Groupon for a single process color, cut, and style with Alex (co-owner and daughter of the other stylist) and left furious. The color wasn't bad besides the fact that I could tell she didn't wash all of it out of the bottom layer of hair in the the back of my head. The cut was atrocious. I asked for a tousled bob and I did get a bob but I don't know how tousled it was. It wasn't even at all. There were random much longer pieces sticking out of the bottom in several places. But the bangs were the icing on the cake. I showed her a picture of myself so she would get an idea of how I like them but she didn't even get close to the right idea. It looked like a had an uneven bowl cut! I told her I wasn't sure about the bangs because I was trying to be nice and hold my composure. She tried fixing them after I showed her the picture again and explained further but she just made it worse because now they were even shorter. She eventually said she would be right back and basically ran into the back room. She came back out after a good 5 minutes and made another failed attempt. Finally, her mom (another stylist at the salon) offered to give it a shot. Thank god she did but they were still terrible because her daughter had cut them so short that there wasn't much else she could do to fix them! There was no apology or discount or anything offered and they clearly could tell how disappointed I was. Disappointed being an understatement! I didn't know whether to start yelling or crying. I was looking to color my hair with Henna at home. In the midst if my search for online products and information, I found this salon that specializes in Henna hair coloring, the only one in Cleveland. I called and Kelly who is the owner answered and gave me basic info. I am African American, so I decided to drop by before my appointment day unannounced for her to give me an opinion about my hair color texture as I was skeptical it would give me the result I was looking for. She stopped and took time to talk to me and my friends and give me further information incliding a brochure about the coloring process and we looked at my color options. It was basically a mini-consultation. She was very knowledgeable about the henna coloring process, so I felt confident keeping the appointment with her. Her daughter was nice too as the receptionist at the time. Very down to earth, comfy atmosphere. On the day of the appt, the entire process took about 2 hours. My grays colored nicely and I feel very happy with the result. It is reddish-brown. She also does chemical processing but I was not interested in that as I am trying to go all natural with my hair. She was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable during the appointment. I chose to style my own hair at home because I am a natural and I didn't expect her to know how to style my hair texture. She offered to try but I took a pass. I still tipped her because overall I was very pleased with her service and the color which was my main objective. It was much easier allowing her to do it than it would have been for me at home. Her price was extremely reasonable and I love the color. Henna is much healthier for your hair as opposed to chenical color. It's worth the extra $20 to allow a professional to apply it...that's her speciality not mine. Some things are worth paying for and this was one of those times. Henna is an all natural coloring process that looks great on my hair and I am close to the color I wanted. It will get redder as I continue...this was a base to start. I bought on the living social network, and wasn't all that impressed. Took the mani and pedi. The pedi was good but the manicure was more like a polish change. I know that they are trying hard to get their new business up and running, so a few helpful hints might be in order. Go visit other salons and see how they are doing things. read more

I wish I could write a glowing review for this mom and daughter owned local salon but unfortunately I cannot! I don't require a trendy or chic location but I do require quality. The Mani/pedi that I received was terrible. The manicure did not include cuticle remover or a hand massage which would have been okay if the polish would have covered the entire nail. The polish on my unshaped toenails is just as bad. The same files were used (without being cleaned) on my nails as well as my mom's. The worst part was that my mom cut her toe on the pedicure chair which was basically ignored by the nail "technicians". The only good thing was that we used a groupon but with tip and the cost of a babysitter it's still a huge disappointment especially since my nails looked better when I got there than when I left. In fact, I can still see traces of my last pedicure because the polish wasn't completely removed. Taking pride in one's work is not a quality found at Bozalodz. read more

It has been some time since I visited Bozalodz II, but I'm getting ready to call and make another appointment so I looked them up on Yelp and was surprised by some of the negative reviews. My experience was very pleasant. I had a groupon, which is what brought me in the door. I got a cut and full highlights. The highlights were great and the cut was too. Granted I have long hair and wasn't doing anything drastic, but I was pleased. This is a mother-daughter business and they were both at the salon. Alex, the daughter, was my stylist. She was very nice and pleasant to talk with during the appointment. I didn't try the henna colors, but the woman who sat next to me did and it looked great! I think I might try it this time. At the end of the appointment, Alex gave me another coupon! I think I still have it, but I'm not inclined to cash it in--I'd rather pay full price this time. :) read more
