This review is really just for the Octoberfest event they run once a year. Given how well they put together such a big gathering, I'd be likely to attend another. There were a lot of people. 4 special event, (big fields), parking lots numbers of people. And there were lines, especially for the most in demand vendors, the best beers, pretzels, etc. But it was well staffed. They had flaggers on the street, good signage, appropriate bathroom facilities, extra atm machines, lots and lots of vendors, 30+ I'd guess, and plenty of place to walk around. It was apparent that they've done this before, and someone with a certain experience planned it out. I had a nice time, even with a few more people than would be ideal. All of the parking was full by the time I arrived mid-afternoon, and street parking in the surrounding neighborhood is severely restricted. But we were able to get a few refreshments, the mood was lively, especially on the dance floor by the Oompah band, and the weather was nice. Fresh Märzen, potato salad, a few sausage and some sunshine, was a pretty good day. read more

Boylston Schul-Verein - Oktoberfest - Social Clubs Near Me - Walpole, Massachusetts

We are big fans of the German Club in Walpole! The area reminds me of my favorite campground growing up. The events are fun, the beer is incredible, and food vendors hit all of the cravings you might have when it comes to German festivals. Oktoberfest is the biggest event of the year and Weihnachtsmarkt in December is on point. read more

I had been wanting to check this place out for several years and finally made it out to Walpole today for their Christmas Market. The grounds of the facility where the market is held are very nice with a lot of mature trees and a nice outdoor pavilion which was furnished with festive Christmas decor and holiday lighting and space heaters. Merchants were set up in tents surrounding the pavilion and in other yard like areas. I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the merchants. There were some people that just seemed to be selling random junk from their garage and very amateur crafts for exorbitant amounts. However, there were some more experienced craftspeople, an interesting jewelry vendor and some more professional businesses selling soaps and beauty products and some German themed merchandise like magnets, books and steins. The main highlight here was the excellent mulled wine which was a generous portion, nice and hot and very well flavored with an assortment of spices. We also enjoyed the hot roasted cashews. A bit disappointed that the German sausages sold out, bf settled for a cheese burger and I had some cheese fries. Not very traditional but tasty. The whole atmosphere was festive with several folks dressed in traditional German clothing and we even heard folks speaking German. We had to park a bit down the street and walk in as they have limited parking but if you don't mind walking it's not a huge issue although there are not really sidewalks in the area so it's a little dangerous walking along the road. Main downer here was there was a very long line for beer and wine which kind of dampened the festive vibes. They really could have used more people working at the beer and wine counter. Overall though it was a fun outing and I'd definitely consider returning here for other festivals with a reminder to come early before the food sells out. read more

Regardless whether you're German or not, BSV will make you feel welcome and make sure you have a good time at a dinner or any of it's events. Having been to Germany many times, and having been to the real Oktoberfest, Frühlingsfest, the various Christmas markets it's hard to find some local German culture. Living in Providence the closest we have is in Pawtucket which is nice, but here at BSV it's larger, more lively and has a lot more going on. Like many places in Bavaria, the BSV is hidden away in a beautiful rural wooded area. They make some great food here, and plenty of it. Some of the food they serve I can only find when I go back to Germany so when I can get it locally this makes me happy. Watching a Schuhplattler dance, hearing a German song, enjoying a drink in the Ratskeller all make this experience great. read more

Boylston Schul-Verein - Glühwein - Social Clubs Near Me - Walpole, Massachusetts

We come here at least once a year, sometimes more. Normally for one of their events like Sommerfest or Oktoberfest, but they also offer concerts, dinners and classes. We have been unable to snag VIP tickets to one of the events, but we'll keep trying! They go fast and allow access to the indoor venue during an event. Although honestly, sitting under the pavilion at a traditional community table with all the other festival goers is a lot of fun! The pavilion also protects from sun and/or rain. (In cooler weather it also provides a tiny bit of warmth. Maybe it's the body heat? There are no walls, but I swear it's a little warmer under there.) If you prefer, you can bring your own chairs and sit on the lawn. Each event has a variety of vendors available to shop. I have purchased items for the kids, souvenir type items are available (magnets, glassware, clothing, etc.) packaged food and jewelry. Of course tents are set up serving German cuisine including schnitzel, potato pancakes, torte, sauerkraut and wursts. Menus are written on large sign boards. Wait on line and order from the staff. Napkins, cutlery, mustard, etc are located at a table after you pay. The food options have expanded this year. At the past two events we attended, a food truck was on site that caters to vegetarians. Well done. Also this last event included a private space to nurse baby. I know many women are comfortable nursing baby in public, but some babies prefer a quiet space and are distracted by all the goings on. So again, well done. There was also a cigar truck at this last event; off to one side so as not to interfere with the smells of German food cooking. There is an obstacle course in the woods for the kids and an archery area, plus organized games like tug of war for the little ones. It really is a family friendly venue. We usually meet up with friends and enjoy the day. Banks and banks of porta-potties that are surprisingly clean and include a hand sanitizer dispenser are located at either end of the event area. Sometimes there is a line, but there are plenty and usually you can get one quickly. Arrive early for on-site parking at their most popular events. You may still have to walk a bit to get to the event space, but it's an easy walk along a tree lined path from the lot. Keep in mind, this 'lot' is dirt and grass. Because cars are parked there in all weather, the ground is uneven so watch your step and if needed, let staff know you need to drop someone off before parking. If on site parking is full, they will bus you in from an off site lot. Please do not try to walk in from off site. The street is busy. Be patient, they'll come for you. A handful of German beer companies on site dispensing their golden elixir for a fee and if you prefer, a bar near the pavilion offers wine and mixed drinks. Coffee is available in the little shed where desserts are for sale. The milk, cream and sugar are to the side of the building. Everyone we have encountered at the events has been friendly. The bands they hire are very good and keep the crowds happy with traditional music and beer hall style fun. If you enjoy German culture, you will have a good time at Boylston Schul-Verein. read more

A little venue that served its purpose well. Came here for a family member's renewal of wedding vows. The place is suitable for group and family affairs. Sad history to the place, the original was burnt in an arson fire. There is a bar, which was open bar for our night (beer and wine, at least) so YAY! Many beers on tap, and the bartender can mix your cocktails. Ample parking. Just as a note, it was especially lovely outside in the moonlight , with the snow on the ground. See: http://www.germanclub.org/Rentals.aspx I did notice that the "stage" curtains could do with a little more color, especially since that was the backdrop for the entire evening. (Just thinking of the plainness is giving me a super sad face). read more

I attended Weihnachtsmarkt on Saturday. The image on their website is definitely not from a past year. There were tons of people there and it was a beautiful, chilly night. There were warmers and standing tables to eat/drink at. The food vendors were creating many delicious smells. It was a nice event for any age. Some of the vendors seemed to have gone before I got there around 5pm but it was fun and cute. read more

We came here for Sommerfest and it was awesome! Didn't know what to expect but it was really fun and the food and beer were delicious. My son enjoyed the live music. Only regret is that we missed Oktoberfest. Will definitely check it out again next year. read more
