Went to have the battery replaced in my 45 yr old Seico watch to find out the contact s were corroded! No worries they were cleaned new battery installed , no charge for cleaning only 18. 75 for the battery! In addition there is so much very cool Gem Stone necklaces and rings for sale. Friendly staff, but when I brought my 1950 Hermle wall-mounted clock in for help troubleshooting they barely looked at it, went straight for the mechanism specs and quoted me $500 for parts and $250 for the labor. They said the mechanism needs to be replaced every 10-15 years. Back at home a friend tinkered with it and fixed it in about 20 minutes, and I learned that it still has the original mechanism and is going strong. I wish the staff had taken some time to figure out what was really going on before going straight to the most expensive, and ultimately unnecessary fix. read more

I have gone in for estimates only, but the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I have an old German cuckoo clock that they said they can't be serviced as parts aren't available anymore (and stated that due to the pandemic many German clock makers have retired). My other clock needs $275-$325 in repairs (& estimated $450-$650 in value once fixed), so I decided not to do that at this time. I trust the folks at Boyd's would do an excellent job at repairing and their prices seem reasonable for the highly skilled work required on these clocks. read more

Normally I don't write reviews, however I think I should warn you that Boyd's does not really know what they are doing. I brought a family heirloom wall clock that is over 150 years old to them for repair. After having it for over 2 months I was finally told that it could not be repaired as parts for it are no long made. Really!? what a surprise that something made 150 years ago doesn't have parts readily available. Of course there are no parts available, that's why you take such an item to a clock maker, which obviously these people are not. They even had the audacity to suggest that I put a quartz movement in it. That's just plain sacrilegious! read more

I really wanted Boyd's to be my new clock shop. I brought in a vintage Chelsea that had stopped running. The staff was pleasant enough and said they'd call when it was ready. After three weeks with no contact I called for a status report and was told the clock was done. When I got there we discovered that it still didn't work, so I left it for another week and a half before I called again. Once again I was told it was done, but having been burned once I pressed to confirm and was then told it couldn't be fixed. I can accept the fact that some clocks are beyond Boyd's capability to repair, but the lack of communication (and incorrect info when provided) means I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I brought my grandfather clock in as it was starting to slow down a bit and wasn't keeping time as well. Expected it to be cleaned and maybe a few adjustments.. because this was literally the only thing my father left me with after his passing (Beyond good memories and his love that is ) I was a little bit nervous leaving it behind at their shop since it had not been away from me in the four years since my dad died.. anyway i received a phone call to let me know that the inside was quite the interesting concoction of Jerry rigging they'd ever seen & they weren't 100% sure that they would be able to repair it . But In truth my father had a way of Jerry rigging things that no one else would ever be able to dream up.. they mentioned there was lots of solder and that's when I knew for fact that my dad had done the job himself.. it made me laugh and smile from ear to ear as they literally brought a little bit of my dad back to me through the story of the mess he had created on the inside of this clock.. anyways I told them just to do the best they could and I'd be happy as long as it was still running. Took roughly about a month to get it back but not only is it running it's keeping time to the minute beautifully. And if that wasn't enough when I wasn't able to hang it correctly on the wall the gentleman who had repaired it jumped on his motorcycle drove over to my house and adjusted it for me to ensure that it would run correctly .. that seriously blew my mind & their customer service was taken to a whole new level and I'm just so impressed with their professionalism and care that they took to ensure that my dad's clock kept on ticking ... When I first bought my grandfather clock I had Boyds completely go through it at a cost of $1000.00, sadly I still have to have them come and do repairs every 9 to 18 months. I just wish they could fix it so it worked for awhile. The young man that usually comes out has started telling me how lucky I'm that I haven't had to have parts made for it so now I'm fearful that will be next. I received a family heirloom Grandfather Clock as a gift from a relative. I was calling around to see who could assemble and tune it when it arrived. I was told by people that "no one" can do that for me. Then I came across Boyd's. Jared was about to come on a convenient day for me within a short window. He assembled the clock, tuned it and showed me how to proper crank it, select tunes, turn off the sound and take care of it. He colored in the scratches. Plus he made sure it was chiming properly. Not only that but he also took/recycled the crate that it arrived in. All of this took place in under an hour and that includes all of my questions and chatting. We brought my wife's G-Shock for a battery change. Boyd's Clocks quoted $15 which was reasonable, so we got it done. However, after the battery was changed, the watch was no longer water resistant. Watch died immediately after my wife wore it in the shower (she's been doing that for the last 5 years). Seems like the watch lost its water resistance after the battery change. When we went back to Boyd's Clock, and told them what happened. Their response was "it's water resistant, not water proof, so you shouldn't wear it in the shower anyway". Seriously?! She's been doing that for 5 years without any issues! At least take some responsibility! I was pretty upset that they took no responsibility and didn't even offer a refund. read more

Hi, Jarrod Boyd came to our house and fixed a grandfather clock that had not been working for several years. He did a fine job and the clock was keeping good time and the chimes worked well also. A couple of weeks later I was winding the middle weight (not sure what you call them) when the cable broke. I thought this is not good as I am going to have to pay for another service charge and the repair as well. I called Boyd's and they did confirm that I would be charged a service charge. Just a few minutes later they called and told me that Jarrod said he would come to our house and there would NOT be a service charge. Jarrod arrived and took every part of the clock except for the cabinet back to the office for repair. About a week later he installed the repaired parts and the rest of the clock. The price that we were charged was less than their normal service charge. Jarrod really knows clocks as he has been around them all of his life I am pretty sure. We need a new wall clock so tomorrow we are going to Boyd's. After looking at their website we are almost assured that we will find one that will work very well in our home. Update: Went to Boyd's this morning and they have a lot of beautiful clocks. We bought a nice one that plays a tune on the hour. My wife loved it and it was around $300 (30% off). If we did not already have a grandfather clock I would have purchased a beautiful one there for $999. The original price was over 5 grand and It looked very well like it would have once cost that. Very happy I was referred to Boyd's regarding my antique grandfather clock, family heirloom handed down from my deceased uncle. In a recent cross-country move from NJ to CA and a few months in storage in CA, then a final move up to Bellevue, the unique skeleton key to the main cabinet broke, and the cabinet was firmly locked, so I was unable to set up the weights and pendulum. My search for a key took me eventually to Boyd's. After talking with Denise, I arranged a service house call to open the cabinet. Jarrod showed up about a week later. He was able to pick the lock after a couple of tries. Very quick. He then set the clock up, oiled and balanced it. And bonus, Jarrod fixed chimes that hadn't worked since a previous cross-country move years ago. Jarrod was super helpful and knowledgeable. Very disappointed! It pains me to write this review, because I've received excellent customer service in the past, but my recent experience has regrettably changed my opinion of this establishment. A month ago, I had brought in my "antique" calculator/game watch from the '80s that needed a new battery. I was reluctant to go to just any watch battery replacement service, because in the past, I've had issues with inexperienced workers dislodging the delicate buttons of this watch. But since I had had a good experience with Boyd's before, and they seemed to know their stuff, I brought it to them, since I knew they would be careful and appreciate the fragile nature of the work. Alas, they discovered a broken gasket in the watch, and advised that I send it in for repair to get the parts replaced. I had no qualms at the time. . . . Nearly four weeks later, I finally get the call that my watch is ready for pick-up. I braved rush-hour traffic to get my watch, because I had long missed its presence from my wrist. When I got there and presented my claim ticket, my watch was returned . . . still not working! And now it was missing one of the side buttons!!! The staff was nonchalant toward my distress, and indicated there was nothing they could do. I insisted otherwise. I took a picture of the damage, and I'm hoping to hear from the owner that amends will be made. It won't be cheap to find a replacement, since the particular model of watch is no longer made. The best I can hope for is that we can find a non-functioning watch we can use for replacement parts. Regardless, what should have been a simple (but careful) battery replacement turned my precious watch into a piece of useless junk. I will be more than happy to adjust my review depending on the final outcome of the situation, but until then, I will no longer be giving Boyd's my custom. read more
