I searched high & low to find a true clock specialist (vs. just a watch repair) and found it @ Boyd Clocks. Their skillset is amazing. Their showroom is fun to browse around as well. Several months ago, I sent Boyd a few clocks as a reseller. He understood that time was not my friend if the timepieces were on his shelf. After all this time, he sent back 3 clocks he claimed he repaired, yet they would not run, one he did not touch and one he did where he broke the bezel arm on a valuable piece, saying nothing, not trying to repair it as if it broke itself. I sent him back one to fix again and was told I would be at the top of his line. Not true. He even stalled shipping it back to me, with days sitting on his shelf, once claiming he took it to the post office where all I ever used was UPS. His last claim to me was that he had taken it now to UPS but did not bother to scan it. Am I supposed to assume it got there? He is not just a garbage clock guy but a passive-aggressive person. David the owner and the only one who does house calls for grandmother clocks is great. Friendly personable and extremely knowledgeable relocated and did service for me. There is no better when it comes to clock repair. Staff at the shop is equally enjoyable to deal with 5 stars is not nearly enough for this business. Family-owned since 1944 (76 years & counting!), this clock repair business @ the corner of Florida Ave & Fowler Avenue is the place to go! Services offered are clock repair; clock restoration; grandfather clock service; & cuckoo & antique clock sales. I am so thankful I visited on the day non-family member Scott was manning the counter. He was an incredibly friendly, helpful, & gracious clocksmith. The showroom is just incredible-- so many gorgeous pieces! I stopped in after dropping one of my 3 Grandfather clock weights onto my newly-installed floor-- ugh. The floor surprisingly survived unscathed, but the weight did not. Scott fixed the weight encasing immediately, free of charge. Then he kindly directed me to a similar 1980s Ridgeway clock on the floor & showed me how to lower the chime volume, which was new to me. He also took the time to explain how my father's clock worked & how to handle it. (I have always feared it:) We verbally set up a proposed in-home clock set-up & cleaning for two weeks out, but my appointment was almost immediately moved up to just 4 days; the shop is so busy at this time that 2 wks is a probable wait time, so I got lucky. David Boyd, son of the original horologist who passed five years ago, arrived as scheduled & not only got my clock clean & working beautifully ($225), but he took the time to answer my many questions about my family heirloom. He also oiled & reset my Grandfather wall clock at no additional charge. David has been on the road w/ clocks for well over four decades. It's obvious he loves his job & possesses a wealth of knowledge. Boyd's hours are excellent. Open Tuesday thru Friday 11 AM - 5 PM, & 11 AM - 1 PM on Saturday, Boyd employees will leave Hillsborough County to travel to Pinellas, Pasco, & perhaps others. (Appointment times on Saturday stretch beyond 1 PM.) Friendliness is a trademark at Boyd. There are 17 part-time employees who work for David; most are retired & former customers. All appreciate the beauty & workmanship of clocks. Definitely an impressive operation! I won't hesitate to return whenever either of my two timepieces needs attention. NOTE: Should you love EXCELLENT art, DO ask David to show you some of his incredible pieces that are housed on his phone. Apparently, clocks are not his only forte. Very talented guy! read more

My grandfather clock stopped working so I called Mr. Boyd of Boyd Clocks. He came out to evaluate and inspect my clock. He was very professional and friendly. He spent much time taking apart the clock and examining it. After all that he didn't charge me a penny. This is what a truly honorable and professional company is. I went to Boyd Clocks with an old cuckoo clock (about 20 years old) from my parents' house that was originally purchased in Germany. The clock was not functional as the batteries had corroded the movement. After bringing in the clock to Boyd Clocks, I was told that the clock would need a new movement because of the damage from the corrosion. My one request was that the original bird be kept as it was a colorful and bigger bird than what is in newer clocks. I was told that it would be tricky, but that they would try and maintain the original bird. I was also told it would be several months before the clock would be ready to pick up. Well, maybe two weeks went by (if that), and my clock was ready. The movement was replaced, and the original bird was salvaged! The clock has been on my dining room wall ever since the repair, and it makes me happy to see/hear it on the hour. For that, I appreciate Boyd Clocks, and would certainly use them in the future if the need arises. read more

I have a beautiful grandfather clock that hadn't been serviced in more than 15 years. I was having trouble getting it to keep proper time. Additionally, I had just moved it from Utah. It was beyond time to have it serviced. Mr. Boyd is a very busy man and the best way to reach him is to call during business hours. I had been unsuccessful reaching him by leaving messages. Mr. Boyd made an appointment to make a house call to service my clock. Before I go into the appointment, let me tell you that I had called other places that told me that they would come, remove the head of my clock and take it back to their shop to service. I definitely was NOT happy with that idea, so when Mr. Boyd told me he would make a house call for the service, I was thrilled. He showed up exactly on time and went to work. It is obvious that he loves what he is doing. He was so gentle with the parts and was also very careful with my furniture, which is mostly glass. Mr. Boyd is a very personable gentleman and was a pleasure to have in my home. He told me that his father was also a clockmaker. He certainly does his father proud. By the time he was finished, my clock was working like new and has been keeping perfect time ever since. He never rushed anything he was doing and obviously did it right the first time. I will certainly be using his services again so that my clock will be serviced in a proper manner from now on. Additionally, his prices are more than reasonable. read more

This is a great place if you want to store a clock for many months, because that is how long it will take. I still don't have mine back after more than 3 months. This was supposed to be an adjustment of a repair they didn't do right the last time. Numerous calls, messages, and emails went unanswered. I finally called the owners cell phone who assured me he would get back to me within two days, that was two weeks ago. I have another clock that needs repaired. I'll have to find another shop. It's sad to see a shop of such tradition that used to have a good reputation go downhill so bad. read more

Found an antique Ansonia gingerbread clock at a thrift store and visited Boyd's to get a replacement winding key. They found me a key, and adjusted the chime mechanism as well, for only the reasonable price of the winding key. I wouldn't hesitate to have them perform a more complicated service in the future.
