This was probably my favorite escape room I've ever done! It was creative, the perfect mix of challenging but still doable, and the staff were super nice. We did the pirate shipwreck room. It was dark and we used flashlights, which added an extra immersive element to it. I don't want to say too much and give anything away, but we ended up solving it with 10 minutes to spare! They have a few different rooms, and I'd highly recommend it. Leave some time for parking so you aren't late. There is some street parking, and there's also a lot about a block down. It cost $3 to cover that length of time. read more

First time at this escape room. Did the Operation Saving Hollywood room. First, the place looks like it could use an update. The waiting area in particular looks run down. As far as the room itself, if you Google, "what makes an escape room bad," you'll see a lot of it in this room. For example, some of the puzzles require subjective guessing rather than structured, deductive reasoning. One puzzle required entering a code by figuring out which 3 icons had to be entered in proper order. But, to figure out which icons, there were no clues about the icons themselves. You just had to start clicking on the icons to see if they were part of the sequence or not. So it was just click each icon randomly until the computer acknowledged it. Not really deductive. There was also a puzzle where we figured out the answer but couldn't find the lock. I don't want to give too much away but as someone who tries not to damage the hardware, the placement of the lock was awkward. Some the puzzles are also very linear in structure and forces everyone to stop so that one person does the puzzle. Not great with a group. And then, to top it off, the final puzzle has both a tedious time sink and a mechanical piece that didn't work well. I've been in challenging rooms but the solutions would have cool aha moments. Here, the clues and subsequent solutions would yield groans for the whole group. Some of the puzzles were neat but so many of them were just not well designed. read more

We had a great time in Merlin's Wizard Academy. It was a little hard but apparently one of the easier ones lol. Humbling to say the least. We had a walkie talkie to ask for hints which was very helpful. FYI, you aren't allowed to take videos or pictures inside but the set up is pretty cool. I've done a couple of Escape Rooms before and this was by far the best one. I came with my wife and stepson, it was their first time and he really wanted to do an Escape Room. I did some research and the location and reviews of Boxroom led me to try it. We're all so glad we did. For beginners and kids they recommended the Merlin Room - it's still challenging! Kids still need to go with adults and you probably cannot solo this one - it really encourages teamwork. This made for great, memorable family time and even team building! I loved the theme, It's hard to talk about it too much without giving away surprises, but I can safely say that you won't be disappointed. The Merlin room is filled with mystery, magic, and the staff is so friendly and good, they made for a great experience. A couple of times we needed just a slight nudge or clue, and they gave exactly that, it was perfect and kept us engaged. We finished the room and felt so great, it was an immersive experience and my stepson already wants to come back next weekend to do the Pirates Room. We'll definitely be back. There's parking available on the street, it's on Hollywood Boulevard, so there's plenty to walk around and enjoy before or after your Escape Room experience - lots of nice restaurants there too. It's also about a 10 minute drive from Hollywood Beach. Great place! read more

What a fun time! We had a blast trying to get out of the pirate room. I was able to make an appointment the day before and checking-in was a breeze. We had to sign waivers and then we were all set to go. Our guide explained the rules and then told us a story to get us started. I don't want to give anything away about the room but it was very fun and exciting. Some clues were tough and it definitely kept you guessing. I came with my boyfriend and his two kids (10 and 12). We were all able to work together to figure out the clues. There is a fun twist at the end that we all really enjoyed. With a small group of friends and family I attempted the escape room with the mission of Saving Hollywood by diffusing a bomb just before the 60 min deadline. With only a few helpful clues we completed the mission with just 30 seconds to spare. Not going to lie, it was difficult but very exciting! It's not bad. I have seen many Escape rooms and this one (although not the greatest one of all) was still fun. I really didn't like their policy of charging per participant vs per game as I have seen in other places. How is it relevant how many people are playing if it still the same set up and same one hour of attending personnel ? ... in addition to that they won't allow children under 18 to be without a parent (who will be required to buy a ticket). I understand small kids should be supervised, but 12, 15, 17 year olds? Seems unnecessary. But either than that, people there were mostly friendly and helpful and we did have fun. read more

As someone who has done 50+ rooms this was above average but nothing special. There was certain things without ruining the experience for others that were basically impossible to know or do. The flow of the room was lacking and again just hard to explain to someone who hasn't done the room before. So i had never done an escape room before. My friend wanted to do one and asked me to go with her, so we got a group together and went to boxroom. We got there a little early and had to wait for 1 more of our party to show up to start. Our game master was Alexis, and she answered all the questions we had while we waited for our +1. While you wait for the room to be available or for your group to get there, they have a variety of games and puzzles and even a VR machine to play in the lobby. Boxroom has 3 rooms. Merlins secret chamber, a haunted pirate ship, and one where you have to save Hollywood from a terrorist attack as a secret agent. One of the cool things about boxroom is their rooms are very technology heavy, and not reliant on padlocks like most escape rooms. As I said above, Alexis was our game master, and she was delightful and made sure we had a great time. We started with the merlin room, and it was really fun. We finished it in abput 33 minutes. We had so much fun in fact that we decided to do a second room after, and did the save Hollywood room. The save Hollywood room is the hardest room they have and we finished with about 8 minutes to spare. If you find yourself in Hollywood and have an hour to kill, deff check this spot out! read more

We arrived 15 minutes after they were supposed to be open for our room and the door was locked and no one was there. We called the number and no one picked up. About 10 minutes later our game master showed up. Then the pirate ship room was out of date. At least 3 technical aspects of the room didn't work as they were intended which obviously caused some frustration. There were a few interesting aspects and the aesthetic was nice overall read more

This escape room, while not the most difficult I've ever done, was a blast to complete. Our game master was very nice and attentive, and tried his best to give us clues when he saw that we were on the right track but needing a little bit of reassurance or guidance. The room itself was clever, although had a little too many distractions, and it was very fun to solve. Ultimately we finished with a few minutes to spare after asking for one or two hints. I'll admit, I had no idea what an escape room even was and wasn't too interested in finding out. Not that I had anything against it, I just wasn't curious about it. Then a thing happened. A huge thing. A milestone. The end of an era. My 50th Birthday. Since my 17th birthday, I have not been especially fond of my birthday. I am a social butterfly who enjoys alone time. My birthday is a nice day to get this alone time because people will give you what you ask for. Unless of course those people are anything like my lovely wife of 21 years. In which case, I get what she wants. We worked on my business and she kept telling me we had to go because she had made reservations. She wouldn't tell me for what. Long story short: We went to an escape room. It was the two of us, our daughter Emily, and two dear friends, Jose and Holly. * I am happy to point out that I was the second youngest person in this group. Beaten only by a teenager. I rule! An escape room is basically a themed room where you and your party are locked in and you have to find and decipher clues to work your way out. It requires teamwork, cooperation, and creativity. We were able to work together and I can honestly say that by the time we were out, everyone had contributed, even the birthday boy, who has the attention span of a fruit fly. The rooms are themed. Ours was a haunted pirate ship. We had an hour to get out and save the shipment of rum before the tide came in, leaving us all sad and sober. Luckily, we broke free. Sadly, the rum was all gone, probably consumed by greedy pirate ghosts! What we did leave with, were great memories and something to laugh about over dinner. The escape room at Boxroom was one of the best experiences I've had yet. It's located on Hollywood Blvd. I went with a group of 5 and we can all agree that we had a great time. In the waiting area, they also had games you could play with while they set up your room as well as a VR machine. This location has three rooms to choose from: Merlin's Wizarding Academy, Haunted Pirate Shipwreck, and Operation Saving Hollywood. We ended up picking the Hollywood one, which was listed as the one with the most difficulty. The staff was very clear on instructions and we ended up finishing with 10 minutes left on the clock. If you are ever in the area with a group, I highly recommend checking this place out, it's a fun and unique experience.
