Books! Oh the sweet smell of books…read more.. I have always been partial to local bookstores like this one. It reminds me of a smaller New Mexico flavored Powell's of Portland, OR. I could spend hours in a place like this, and I have. Usually find things I didn't even know I needed. I try 9 out of 10 times to buy used books from a local source. Unfortunately, I was not able to find the list of books I was looking for but I still had a great time looking around. Also, the staff and specifically the person that helped me was awesome and extremely helpful. I shall return...

Honestly this place was good warm and welcoming from the days the originally opened. But for some…read morereason they have developed a attitude for example I knew a guy who left them a one star experience due to a personal experience that he had that was not very good and she found out the next day. He came in that he was banned from the store and no longer to come in. I mean, the only problem that I truly have is that they are developing a really high ego and are banning people who comment on their business. Their employees also tend to have mean remarks to customers who have questions about merchandise they just in general don't have the warm welcoming feeling and have more of interest in talking to each other than talking to you and talking to their boss about anything that you might need if you do find them won't be able to accomplish you anything I don't recommend this comic bookstore!!!!

It's been awhile since I've gone. I love this unique, one of a kind bookstore! It has a homey feel to it. It feels like grandma's or tia's (aunt's) house when you're there. Chicana author Denise Chavez owns it with her husband. Can you believe I actually had the opportunity to take a writing workshop with her? It was such a great opportunity! She's an award-winning writer and there I was in her presence! Thanks to a great aunt, I had the opportunity to take her workshop. My poor aunt is still waiting for me to write a book! Maybe it will happen someday! Anyway... Mrs. Chavez's bookstore has all kinds of books! There was even books in the bathroom! There were lots of children's and non-fiction books, along with many others. I'm not sure what the hours of operation are so I recommend calling before showing up. Mrs. Chavez also sells books online at: abebooks.com She has over 1,000 books for sale there. Copies of her books are sold on Amazon and pretty much anywhere else books are sold. Check this gem out if you're in Las Cruces sometime. There is something for everyone.
