If you're looking for a good hangover cure, then I Love Dumplings is for you!…read more On a grey and gloomy Sunday, with a horrific headache and that awful gut churn that only one (or five) too many cocktails can give you, I found myself pulling up a chair here. The steamed vegetable dumplings are good, as are the stir fried greens, however the stand out for me was the vegetarian hot chilli soup. It had just enough kick whomp my hangover in the ass, and enough vegetables to fill my grumbly belly. It was just right! The other people I was with had things also. I don't know what they were, because until I got my soup I was too busy dying a slow painful death. I'm sure it was good though. Lunch time on a Sunday was pretty calm, however I can only imagine that Friday and Saturday nights would be pretty crazy.

We had 2 noodle bowls and the steamed Melbourne dumplings- a lot to eat. Putting soy sauce in provided bowls for dipping the dumplings helped flavor the dumplings. Probably better to split a bowl of noodles and order a plate of dumplings. Sit in the chairs until they replace the booth seats to enjoy the food.

I visited Luyang on Wednesday and returned only three days later. Yes it is that good. While it may not be up to the Shanghai village or Hu Tong standards, the dumplings here are still good and are very cheap. I came here with my partner and we ordered a serving of the fried pork dumplings ($8 for 15 dumplings) and the steamed dumpling combination (around $12), which included a selection of different types of dumplings. The service is charming and the girls who wait on the tables are so friendly and efficient that you just have to sit back and relax. Luyang may not be luxurious or trendy but there is free tea on your tables, and some sweet dumplings are heading your way, so sit back and relax.

Overall, I wasn't too impressed and wanted to be based on the reviews…read more Came in on a Sunday and wanted to dine in. There were a few tables open (a 2 top and two 4 tops). The girl who was seating me wanted to put me across another diner at their table as I was just a party of one. No thanks. Asked for a take out menu instead. Service was slow (10 minute time promised, took 25 mins) and they weren't busy. Wanted sweet and sour chicken but was told they didn't have it. Also asked about lemon chicken or orange chicken and told they didn't have that, either. Not sure what menu is posted online and in pictures, but it shows it. Ended up trying their dumplings which were decent. Came with a small small container of soy sauce (probably the equivalent of a packet and a half for us in the states) which was a little amount considering you do get a large amount of dumplings (10 or 12). Decent taste. Tried the Kung Pao chicken and have definitely tasted better. I was visiting here so I can't say I'll return as I won't be back there likely, but with so many other places to choose from, I wouldn't return here if I were.

Saw that it was packed so we had to try it. We started with the Shanghai style mini wonton soup…read more The soup was savory and peppery, and the wontons were small yet meaty. Next came the xiao long bao. These were fantastic. Each one had a little soup inside, and the meat tasted hearty. Last was the Shanghai sheng jian bao which was nice and crispy on the bottom. Everything was delicious, and I would definitely come back if I'm ever back in Melbourne.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but it's a really solid Chinese restaurant. I didn't love the spicy wonton dumplings as much as I hoped, but I'm not the biggest fan of spicy food in the first place, so my opinion can't really be trusted there. I also ordered the dry chicken in hot chili, and though I still don't like spicy foods, I LOVED this dish. Even if you're not usually the biggest fan of fried foods or don't think it appeals to you, I would highly suggest you give it a chance. It was so good that I didn't even want to finish it so that I could bring it home to share with my boyfriend. I also got the soup dumplings which were fine, but nothing to tell your mother about. Food was great, and service was better. It's hard to strike the right balance of nice Chinese food (not the quick, super oily/unhealthy type) and good service at a reasonable price, but I think HuTong found the perfect balance. I really enjoyed dining here and don't regret going out of my way to make it in time for their lunch service.

Last year our favorite server had changed to a different restaurant and now this year our favorite host, Patrick is no longer there. There is a new host that tries to act like the old one but he just isn't able to emulate correctly. He comes across to be very rude. Our wonderful Dumpling Lady is still there. Am not sure how long. The kitchen just didn't have the same buzz as it has over the last ten years. The Wontons in Hot Chili Oil are still fantastic. Dumpling Lady is the Winner. Service was rushed. Not very friendly. Probably won't go back next year. We are both very sad.

4.2. Very impressive. Not perfect but very very good…read more The most important thing. The food here is superb. Probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. We had a party of 9 and had a range of dishes. Every single dish was excellent. In order they were sweet and sour pork ribs, kong pao chicken, kong pao prawns, ma po tofu with beef mince, dry stir fried beans, fish flavoured eggplant and sweet and sour cabbage. Every single dish was fantastic. I loved them all and so did the whole table. If I had to pick a favourite it'd be a curious one. The cabbage was utterly magnificent. Cooked and flavoured so perfectly it was ridiculous. Service was up and down on the night. It was not good at the start. No one attending to us. Single dishes then delivered with significant intervals. No rice either. It made for a chequered and slightly awkward start. It was rectified in time but it shouldn't have happened at a restaurant of this quality. On the upside again, the cost of the meal was very modest at $33 a head. Exceptional value actually. We brought two of our own wines which helped the bottom line. What a great thing to be allowed to do. Overall I loved the place and would return in a heartbeat.
