As a family we visit here quite often, the place is always packed and you need to join the queue outside to get a table, but the dumplings are great. Cheap and the kids just love the chicken and prawn steamed. I'm a fan of the Ma Po (tofu) and the veggie dumplings and throw in a bowl of fried noodles with seafood and the whole family is happy. Pity about the grumpy and scratchy service (you'll need to ask a few times for water - we end up just getting it ourselves) and it takes a few years of visiting to get a smile out of the lady on the till. But great food, leaving with a full belly and a grizzle about the wait but overall it's the great value that outshines. read more

I love the dumplings here! I've tried the chicken and shrimp, vegetarian and beef dumplings and I really think they're the best in the city! I've never been a huge fan of chicken and shrimp dumplings but these are just outstanding. I've tried a bunch of other dishes including steamed buns, Chinese broccoli, and several noodle dishes. They've all been above average. The only downside to Aunties is the restaurant itself. It's cramped, old and loud. They've squeezed in as many tables as possible, and if your party doesn't fill up the entire table, they'll sit others with you. There's always a line to sit down and if you're sitting near the door, the line often overflows around your table. Since it's so popular, they rush you at as soon as possible. Good, flavoursome dumplings at a really good price. The Shanghai fried pork mini buns are addictive. They're kind of like a cross between the regular pan-fried dumpling and a xiao long bao. For those who don't know what that it, it's a steamed pork dumpling which also contains some pork broth. When eating it you should break the dumpling skin, making sure to retain the broth, and either suck out the broth or pour it on your spoon to drink. Xiao long bao have an almost cult following. Some prefer a very porky broth, while others want flavour and seasoning above all else. It's just a matter of trying a few and seeing what works best for you. Despite the name, Auntie's Dumplings offers so much more than just dumplings. The traditional Shanghai Fried Noodles is quite a popular dish, and the Braised Belly Pork in Noodle Soup is another one of their hits. In fact, you probably can't go wrong with most things on their menu. Even with something more adventurous like the Wine Hock - pork hock marinated in shaoxing wine. Was gagging for cheap and cheerful dumplings and there was about 14 people lining up but queue moved quickly and we were seated within about 10 minutes. There was a full container of delicious chilli jam that I swear you could eat by the spoonful. Menu was extensive and our waitress advised us that we were ordering too much so we culled the list down to fried beef, steamed beef, chicken and prawn and shanghai pork dumplings as well as Chinese broccoli and spring onion pancakes. Nice place with very good prices. You can get a main meal, a plate of noodles and 15 largish dumplings for around $30. The Shanghai noodles are very nice and the family enjoyed the fried dumplings more than the steamed dumplings. The staff are pleasant enough but sometimes the communication skills aren't great. We have been a few times and would strongly recommend this place if you are looking for a cheap and tasty, no frills meal. read more

Ok, I don't know how our experiences were so different, but this is mine. It seriously disappointed. There's always a queue there, so I was looking forward to trying it out. Perhaps this is because it's affordable, or because it's the nearest dumpling place to the station. I came, I queued, I got ignored whilst seven people were served in front of me. Not impressed. Let's continue. The dumplings were gelatinous. Not good gelatinous either, if there is such a thing. The insides were watery and the outsides were gooey. And the smell... oh dear, not nice. Auntie's dumpling is really cheap AND good! Came here couple of times already. Lunch time is not that busy but when it gets to dinner time, you might have to wait a while. Ordered their fried and steam pork dumplings. Love both! So juicy and just the right taste! Their shanghai fried noodles was also delicious! TERRIBLE! I ordered the chilli beef with rice and the sauce was like gelatin/jam. I had previously had the same dish a long time ago there and it was not like that. The rice was dirty and either over cooked or re used, was disgusting. The beef dumplings were overcooked and all stuck together like a massive ball. Absolutes good flood most of the time. Absolutely appalling service. Unfriendly staff, Guess they do not want to be there!!! Ask for a soda and you get a 'get if from the fridge', Ask for a straw and you get "its in the yellow container", ask for a spoon an fork and you get a 'puzzled look' from the servers.
