Love the big shaded porch and inside seating. Free WiFi as well. The drive up was not open yet as we went during the soft opening. Soon they will do lunch and baked goods. The parking spaces in front are limited, but there is street parking. I was by myself and took a seat over to the side. There is one big dining room with tables along the walls and in the center. The kitchen and restrooms are in the back. This is a family style restaurant, with just a few decorations like a mural of a Mexican scene on one wall. Everything appeared clean as far as I could see. My server was pleasant and brought me some chips and salsa. Chips are the typical thin American style. The salsa is medium spicy, tomatoey and zipped in a blender. I ordered the "guiso plate" and was told I could choose between hand made flour or store-bought corn tortillas. I prefer corn, so I was promptly served the carne guisada along with corn tortillas (which were quite good). The carne guisada had more of an American gravy texture and taste than most carne guisada I have had in Mexico. But I slathered the salsa over it and that pepped it up. This is not a trendy place nor super fancy, but you can find good food and pleasant service. As I left I requested some iced tea to go, and they were happy to oblige, and that was nice as I had a long drive ahead of me. I would go back when I have occasion to go through Ballinger.
