I recently found this lovely estate hidden in the Borderlands. There is lots to see and do, for a cost of course :-) It's a vast estate and you can roam at your own paste. Entrance fee is abt £11 for house and Gardens and you receive a yearly pass. You can come back any time. The house is only open at certain days during the first half of the year and all of July with a guided tour. Brochures are available with the details.
There are two lakes, the upper and lower lochs. The upper Loch was an human venture and had been added to enchant the views from the main house, besides the VISTA, a stretch of green land in the front of the house, which once was woodland.
Inside there are amazing paintings and rich decor.
The tea room/ coffee shop and gift shop are open during normal opening hours, as well as the Victorian kitchen.
I was very much amazed by the adventurous playground, a must for all the little ones. At the lakes there are boat houses. Maybe you can try a bit of rowing? On the events page you will find a broad itinerary with different subjects on various days for old and young.
You might need a car to get there, but it's definitely worth visiting for a day! read more
