The cafe had a very fresh feeling, with a few tables and chairs, some window seats, and a smattering of sofas. There was a wide range of hot and cold food, cakes, desserts and even Mackies ice cream on offer. Whilst I didn't sit outside in said outdoor seating (it was raining), I can see that it would be a pleasant place to have a seat outside. This place is a real find. My best guess is that it's just the English muffin wasn't as sturdy as I'm used to and I'm used to it that way. The peas a la salt came over sourdough bread with bacon, black pudding and a poached egg. Same as the Bennedict, it was all yummy, but not amazing. The peas were very far from mushy (which is good), but maybe could have been a bit firmer. Things just didn't quite come together the way I would have hoped.

It wasn't until we sat down that we found food menus with, surprisingly, breakfast. I ended up being glad that we hadn't ordered anything as I heard the familiar beep of a microwave and the smell of poor quality bacon turned my stomach. On the plus side our coffees were very nice and prices reasonable. Morningside and Bruntsfield are full of great cafes. If you're looking for somewhere not fancy to bring your toddler, Leaf and Bean will suit. But if you're child free, I'd recommend elsewhere.
