When we complained we were told that the kids were quiet when they were in the theatre, but were running around outside the room. Thats a problem! But actually we were in the last row of the adjoining theater and we could hear them in the room itself. So there is that. We all also thought it was unusual to exit the theater and walk-through the main bar/lobby to leave and see one of the staff men sitting at the bar with an undershirt tank top on. First of all it isn't the summer, but even still aren't they expected to wear their uniforms while on duty? It was very unusual.

Now I don't know if this is because of the film or all of theaters in there are like this, but my…read morefilm was in a theater that was the same size as some people's entertainment rooms, I'm sure! I'm not complaining! Loved the large extended leather chairs, great sound and truly what seemed like a private showing -- I mean we're talking 'small,' as in 'tiny!' Pretty cool! The only negative was the fact people (adults) sat on the one side and let their kids go ape $#*! on the other side! Remember, this is a SMALL venue. It reminded me of what I hate about a similar cinema in Pleasantville -- a lot of privileged people on their phones, feet on the chairs, talking... but I digress! Anyway, I can't wait to go back and see something else, and hopefully in the same theater. If I see kids again, I'm getting my money back! I really want to know if the other theaters are the same size or larger. Assuming larger! Oh, parking was brutal -- almost non-existent!

Living in NYC,…read moregoing to a regular movie theater is a nightmare...people on their phones, talking, smoking cigarettes and weed, babies crying. I just stopped going since even Alamo stopped enforcing cell phone usage. But I really wanted to see "The Sheep Detectives" and I saw that there weren't too many seats sold for an early Friday show, so my husband and I visited here and it wasn't bad! I didn't order tickets in advance but used the kiosk when we walked in. I was also able to order food at the kiosk and then pick it up at the concession stand. Although every employee I saw there looks like they are in high school, the place seemed to be pretty well run. It was tidy, the soda/salt/napkins areas were organized and well stocked. The restrooms were a little outdated but they were clean and most everything worked. The theater was clean and the seats were in good shape....no obvious tears or sagging or anything. Sound and temperature were perfect. There were probably about a dozen other people in the theater and nobody used their phones or decided to have an in depth conversation. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised after reading some of the other reviews. I imagine if I saw a film that wasn't designed to attract old softies like me, my experience might have been different but I would go back here as long as it wasn't too crowded.

Be careful when selecting your seats at this theater. We went to see Odyssey in Theater 4 (a…read moresmaller theater I think there tucked away in the far left corner) on a Thursday night in mid-August. The seat selector display doesn't delineate between those seats that are flat on the floor and those that are "stadium" seating. In the attached photo, I drew a yellow line--all those seats above the yellow line are flat on the floor which stinks, essentially leaving only two rows of stadium seats. We had picked Row C because nothing else was left, and once I got there and realized they were flat, I went to the desk to see if I could change to the handicapped row with companion seats which was still completely empty--she was very helpful and willing to let me switch since the movie was about to start, and no one was in them. Recliner seats were comfortable, but our two were on their last legs feeling like the recliner was going to break when raising. Also, they do not put butter on your popcorn even if you ask, so you cannot ask for it layered. There are two do-it-yourself butter machines which trickle out intermittently--Imagine that's a lot of fun when there's a crowd of rushing patrons (not!); my husband had to leave halfway through to get more butter. I suppose some PREFER doing it themselves, but it just seemed kind of crazy to me when many are rushing to get in to the theater before the movie starts. Theater was clean. Staff were all very nice.

30mins of commercials that is insane. They need to tell people the accurate time of the movie.read more

What a fantastic job they have done. Cinema lab is the company responsible for the redesign. They have a Theatre that they redid in South Orange, New Jersey. As well as in Colorado. Now there's a beautiful pub upstairs where you can get drinks and food as well. I had a delicious dry aged burger with french fries. The service was great and the food reasonably priced and the burger juicy delicious great flavor. Crispy french fries The theater room itself is really very nice now. Bigger screen. Upgraded sound system. Very comfortable chairs. Not like the rocking chair reclining seats at AMC. But these are wonderful. It's a whole nice experience you can go and have some food and drinks in the pub even if you're not going to see a movie. But it's perfect place to go for dinner and a movie. A lot nicer than just dragging off to AMC for a ridiculously priced popcorn and Microwaved food. Definitely come here and check out the pub and of course catch a movie in the theaters downstairs The Theatre building itself is 100 years old. Downtown new Canaan is lucky to have this wonderful Theatre.
