Showed up having NEVER shot a bow before. Nick got me all measured up and had me shoot multiple bows until I found one i was comfortable with. Then, he told me to take my time making a decision and NOT to make an impulse buy. I went to another shop immediately after leaving to compare bows/price/service...and after they tried to upsell and rush me into buying a bow from them, I went back to Bow n Arrow a few days later and purchased my first bow. After 150 arrows, i brought my bow back (per Nicks instructions) to get my strings tightened. Ernest took care of me and i watched as he made sure my bow was good to go. They sold me an expensive defective bow from Bowtech archery (ss34) that ended up costing me several hundred extra while Bowtech and Bow n Arrow shop failed 2 times to fix it, while selling me more stuff saying it would fix the warranty problem that I'm paying for. Failed to sell a $1350 bow new, failed twice to make it new. The story and photos are on Archery Talk forum under dangerous Bowtech ss34 bow. It's a pathetic display of business and they refuse to take responsibility. Bowtech hides behind customer reps and faceless screen names, Bow n Arrow shop blames the customer. They're both ridiculous and both have no more credibility and will never be deserving of my courtesy, respect, or care. This shop deserves 10 stars. Let me also add I don't give reviews freely either so when any place deserves it I will absolutely say what is necessary. I am fresh into archery and what I mean, I've never shot a bow before EVER. The entire staff understands how important it is to allow you pickup a bow and learn to shoot it properly so they're not there just trying to sell you random stuff. Allow me to explain my VERY POSITIVE EXPERIECE. As I walked in, they greeted me and not one bit did they ever acted better than anyone. I walked in with a very slight peek of interest of learning archery the right way (instead of going a big box store buying something random) and they went above and beyond with crazy amount of patience (as long as you're willing to learn). Bruce literally showed me all different types of bows from low priced, mid-range to high end bows by allowing me to shoot every type of bow he had in the store so that I understand how each type of bow shoots and what is best suited for me. He watched my form and taught me how to properly hold a bow with the correct stance (still learning and working on it) so that I can enjoy the proper bow. He's not interested in selling you the top of the line to every customer, he's there to give everyone the chance to enjoy the world of archery the correct way and what is properly suited for you. I had and asked just about all the dumb silly questions and not once did anyone made me feel dumb for it. Because of everyone there graciously taught me the correct way of buying my first bow, my interest for archery is now at 1000% vs just a thought of it. Made my first visit to the Bow and Arrow shop and purchased arrows and a bag target. I admire this place. It reminds me of Barnacle Bills, a bait and tackle shop I used to frequent. The shop is small but laid out well with a good selection of everything archery with competitive pricing. The business has a sense of community with archery scuttlebutt over grinding noises, patrons dressing the part, a customer getting fit for a bow and taking shots in the back. The confusing part was the guys sitting in stools along the showroom floor ( like security guards not dressing the part) and the shop not having Field tips and inserts. Why do they have a large selection of Broadheads but no Field-Tips? I looked everywhere! I soon found out that you take your uncut fetched arrows to the front counter, they cut it to your required length and then they add the insert and requested Field-Tip. The grinding...cutting of arrow shafts...guys sitting....waiting on their arrows. read more

Bruce and his crew are simply the best! I drove 2 hours to get to this shop and it was completely worth it! They had the exact bow I wanted, and did a full blown tune on it to fit me. They also watched my form and tuned that up too. In all they spent 3- 3 1/2 hours setting up my new bow for me. They also fixed the problems my old shop caused on my other bow. The shop may seem small, but it's packed with all the flagship bows, Mid range bows, and a few entry level. They also have the a good selection of sights, and rests. When you buy a bow there, you can see where those profits go. It goes back into the store, and it's paying for expert techs. These guys are archers. This is the way a bow shop should be. Haven't touched a bow in close to 30 years so when my son told me he was interested in archery, I had no clue where to start. A friend recommended the Bow n Arrow shop. Even though it is close to an hour trek I decided to make the drive and I am happy I did. Amazing customer service and a wealth of knowledge. They took the time to ensure my son was comfortable and got what best suited his size, strength and ability lvl. Not to mention the pointers he needed to start using the bow and make the shot (something I wouldn't have been able to do). With their indoor range He was able to shoot the bow we eventually purchased several times and get it dialed in before we left. My buddy (next door neighbor) hooked me up and made an appointment to tune my bow for my birthday (best friend ever!!!). Ernest, Bow N Arrow Shop Staff, was amazingly meticulous. I felt we were not only in great hands, but he really cared about my performance. He did sell me on new release, but it wasn't just a "here this is what you need." He explained very well, how the Bow N Arrow Shop likes to teach their students to use a release. I was used to the trigger style (I grew up shooting rifles), but he got me a very similar release but was more conducive to a back tension style method. It exposed my personal target panic/tendency to punch the trigger. With a little time to get used to it, he really increased my precision with the new release and new technique. Prior to coming in, they told us to be prepared to spend $80-120 for a "full tune up" since they don't know what's going on with my bow. Turns out, we only spent $45. I highly recommend! FYI: These dudes are super intimidating looking (my buddy kept telling me how scared he was when we walked in), but once they get to know you a bit they were super friendly. read more

The guys at this shop are awesome; Bruce, Ernest, and the rest. Extremely helpful, answered every question I had (and I had many), and Ernest spent a lot of time helping me find the best bow for me and fine-tune it after trying a couple different ones. He spent a lot of time coaching me on how to shoot with correct form and I saw Bruce giving extensive coaching to another more experienced bow hunter to dial in his form as well. If you're new to archery and plan to buy a bow, give yourself a solid 1.5-2 hr window as the process will take time but you will be very happy with the result. I've been to the other bow shop in San Diego multiple times and my experience here was far better. If you're in the city, it's worth the extra driving time to come out here instead. This is an outstanding local business. Prices on all bows are way lower than the competition closer into SD, and the store atmosphere is much friendlier. Jim went above and beyond in terms of customer service, spending 20 minutes with me at target practice even though the shop was quite full. He outfitted me with a forearm guard and was very patient in correcting my stance, draw form etc. I couldn't have asked for a better first time experience, and was so glad to have the opportunity to shoot without having to take a full class or make plans in advance. I have never shot a compound bow, but inside the shop I was able to pick a few bows from different levels and price range and shot. I bought a bow from another local pro shop, and the tune-up on the bow they sold me was poor at best. Not to mention, them selling me a stripped-down ready-to-shoot package. But Bruce took it upon himself to make things right. He spent a couple of hours with me getting my bow tuned and even a few upgrades that made a massive difference with a bigger peep and stabilizer. After getting my bow dialed in, Bruce took time to go over my form. I am only a month into archery, but the tips and setup drills he gave me helped me get consistent in my shots. I was already happy with the quality and value of the shop buying replacement arrows. But now they are the only pro shop working on my bow. It's also my go-to shop for anything I need going forward. Bruce and staff are probably some of the best people I have come across and I've visited archery shops every where in CA. I was honestly astonished at the level of detail and time they put into setting up a bow. Most places want to bolt everything on and send you on your way.
