My girl had planned a surprise to celebrate my birthday. Needless to say, I was pleasantly amazed when we arrived at Bovis. Since the first time we came here, the delicious steaks have haunted my dreams for many a night, and I was engulfed by a true feeling of homecoming when we entered the restaurant.
We were set at a nice, cosy table in the corner of the vintage-butchery interior and immediately served up a nice bottle of wine. The variety of meats platter with Iberico, Serrano, San Daniele, Carpaccio of Angus and plenty others arrived swiftly enough and was only slightly more slowly savaged by the two of us. It is an excellent round trip through the world of cured meats and one that will leave your tastebuds positively decimated.
After this, we could have gone home perfectly satiated and happy, but this was but the beginning: we came for steak, great steak, and that is wat we got. A Scottish Angus Entrecote and a Holstein Rib-Eye - Blue of course, the only way one should treat quality grass fed beef - accompanied by a bowl of perfectly, I suspect in beef fat, baked, fries, freshly made mayonaise, some greens and a threesome of homemade sauces (bearnaise, pepper sauce and bordelaise). The next 40 minutes were absolute Nirvana-like bliss, and when at last we deemed it time to come back from the afterlife, not even the hefty, and long in the coming, bill could in any way dampen our spirits. No space for dessert, but we enjoyed a Cragganmore-paired afterglow before returning home, utterly complete. Awesome birthday! read more
