They effectively asked me to pay $150 for a quote. Let me explain. I requested a quote for to cut trees in my yard. They sent Joseph who took a look and then told me that he will fill out a permit with the city before he gives me a quote. He then sends me an invoice for $150 to file the permit. I emailed him back and asked for a quote, assuming that we can cut all the trees. I want to compare rates between other tree cutting companies. He ignored my email and never responded. None of the other tree companies requested payment to file a permit with the city. If they had told me in advance that they require a $150 permit to be filed first, I would not have asked them for a quote and would not have wasted about 30 minutes of my life showing the guy around the property. read more

I would not do business with Boutte Tree Service because I was dismissed by foreman when I pointed out a problem. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because I called there office and explained that they can't block the road by having one truck on one side (the one they were actually using) and another one on the other side just parked with only a speed bump between them. Add the cones around both vehicles and no one directing traffic and there is an issue. If it's difficult for SSUV's to get through because cars are coming at them, even a small bus and u-haul are having issues school buses will have issues to. Plus the firetruck which are even larger are going to have issues. I will never recommend this company for tree removal service because their crew doesn't have the community safety in their plans. Plus they had a full 27 minutes to simply move the unused truck up a few feet, or put a guy out to direct traffic; but I my observation was dismissed. At least the young lady that answered the phone when I called the business seem to be concerned and notified the manager of that crew of the situation. Hopefully she was telling the truth. Selected Boutte tree to cut down a single oak tree that was sadly dying. Went with Boutte because they were highly recommended in a neighborhood with tons of trees. Scheduling went according to plan but I was unfortunately out of town while the tree came down so my wife was left to supervise. Boutte machinery significantly cracked our driveway, left enormous ruts in our yard and completely destroyed our irrigation system. All they said was "oops" but did nothing to fix the damage at the time. After I notified them a few months later to let them know about the severity of the damage I was told they would come by and assess but they never showed up. I'm now $2,000 (and counting) into repairs for just the irrigation system and expecting the end result to be that I pay more to fix the damage than I actually did to remove the tree. Will never use Boutte again. read more

I have used Boutte several times over the years and they always do a terrific job. For big trees, they have a big crane (size matters) and operators who are careful and efficient. Their arborists want to help you save trees. I think their guys loved to climb trees as kids and got into the business because they still love to climb trees. They climb efficiently and safely and are fun to watch. If you have an insignificant job, call an insignificant company. For the big jobs, call Boutte. read more

They did a great job removing a huge oak tree. Had to bring in a crane and climb the tree to remove it in Pieces. You don't want an unqualified person doing this as it could destroy your house! No it's not cheap. Not should it be. They are licensed, I assume they pay their people decently kas they should because this is tough dangerous work) and honestly their bid was lower than a couple fly by night places we called. Boutte is the unethical tree service you're been looking for if you need someone to illegally trespass on your neighbors' property without notice and cut back your neighbors' trees. They went well into my property without my permission and cut major branches back to the trunk of MY tree - because parts of those branches overlapped their customer's property. Yes, they can cut branches on the customer's side of the property line without permission. No, they can't cut branches on the neighbors side of the property line without permission. But they'll gladly do it anyway. When I confronted the Boutte project manager, he ridiculed me, saying that my tree wouldn't have looked good (to their customer) if they only cut the limbs at the property line. He's correct. But that doesn't give him the right to cut massive branches off my tree on my side of my property line without talking to me first. If Boutte had discussed their plans with me first, I probably would have agreed to most/all of them. Instead, I hate the company with a passion. If you need a highly unethical tree company and don't mind your neighbors despising you forever (and possibly suing you), Boutte is the company for you. read more

We also appreciated the work of Maquise, Gerber and Amy, that made our experience end on a positive note! Jessa apologized for issues, and said the company would do a better job of explaining terms, removal process, and take time/slow down, mark things for removal, etc which we greatly appreciated. They removed the item from our bill that was not completed, and the other item in question why sent someone out to do a touch up on in just two days. Better ending to a very rough start. ** My family and I wanted so badly to love this tree company! Unfortunately we have had a BAD experience. Please view the attached correspondences + images of our experience...With such high reviews from other families and their commitment to using non-toxic materials to remove underbrush and trees, I was excited to utilize their company. We wanted an oak tree to be pruned to allow more space above our home, underbrush removed on the left side of our home to the property line, to have resulting stumps ground and to have the mulch from our job left onsite. After waiting two months for our job day (due to the pandemic they said the wait times for jobs were very long) it was finally there. We didn't expect to have to watch the crew as they completed the job, but there were issues from the start. The crew was driving off and we asked them where was our mulch? They came back to dump off our mulch. They dumped the entire day's mulch (see attached photo) in front of our home. I know other families are raving about their mulch drop off, but we only wanted our mulch from our job, as noted in our job proposal. It is such high quality, but not what we asked for. Again, we didn't expect to watch every hour of what the crew was doing. When we told their front desk, the arborist, the crew-- just everyone we could, to their team, what occurred the desk said that was awful and it would get corrected. They also apologized. The arborist, however, sent us a message stating it would be $325 to remove mulch that was not designated to be dropped off at our site (see image). I talked to the Operations Manager, because at this point, days have passed and our neighbor is calling the police on us due to the mulch mound and even threatening to call the city. He states I hate to do this to you, but can you please send over a copy of your proposal where it states you only want YOUR mulch. I do that (see attachment), and still being polite ask him to please send over from the company some letter stating they will remove it in the event another office from the city comes to our home. Not only does the entire office leave for the day, not respond to our calls or email, but the arborist gives us a call. He states, yet again, we will need to charge you $325 to get the mulch. Our entire weekend was ruined, spent dealing with police calls, begging their office to deal with their crew's mistake and constantly having to send over copies of our emails, proposals, everything to prove to them we only wanted OUR mulch. The Operations Manager then states our crew should have made your home the first stop, so you only got your mulch, I said I agree but again we aren't the crew or the arborist, so why is that our fault... We are at our wits end. They are still requesting payment, and we are still scrambling with kind, honest local landscapers to deal with it. But this wasn't their issue, and their schedules are book. I see all of thee amazing reviews and wonder why our little home was treated -- for a lack of better terms-- like dirt. On top of all this, the stump grinding was not done. Their stump grinder came out the day after the crew worked to grind the stump, but stated there were no stumps to grind and said he would have them waive the fees for that. We said okay, we can't see any either-- sounds good! Remember, we had small underbrush removed not giant trees... Their arborist, then comes out to point out a ton of small stumps and says sorry about that, he should have ground it. Sigh. We tell him to just forget it, we will have our landscapers grind it out. Then we point out the underbrush is still quite full-- he tells us, well we don't remove any ivy or bushes that were present. We just remove the small trees that were present and haul them off. So strange, during our quotation he said "we can clear out everything, including the underbrush" Please see the attachments, just a warning. Maybe it was our neighborhood that caused them to act like we don't really matter, but man. What an experience... read more

BEWARE!!! This company damaged my tree with their truck and ripped my cable/internet cords off my home. They tell me it is not their fault. My neighbors are using this company for tree work. They offer no apologizes or support to get the situation resolved. Evidently it is everyone else's fault but the company who owns the truck who damaged my home. We need a tree replaced in our yard and we had someone from Boutte come out to assess it. They told me they would give me a quote and we would get on the schedule to plant something in October (this was March). We never received a quote. I have since followed up four times. Each time they can't find my account when I call, then after searching they see an arborist came out but can't understand why I didn't receive a quote. Then they tell me that the arborist will give me a call back- which he never does. Finally I just made a new appointment to have the tree looked at again(clean slate ya know) and the arborist does not show for the appointment and the receptionist once again just tells me "I'll have your arborist contact you". I had an experience with Boutte Tree about 2 years ago and have waited to post the review to allow the emotion to pass and give a fair and honest review. I hired Boutte tree to remove 6 trees from my yard. The crew who removed the trees read the work order incorrectly - they removed an additional very large tree from my yard that they were not supposed to. This was a tragedy and a completely avoidable mistake if the crews had a) Paid closer attention to the work order b) Called me for clarification c) Called their leaders for clarification. Identifying and cutting down the correct trees in a yard is the fundamentals of their business - what happened is simply unacceptable. What defines a company however is how they manage through their mistakes. The team was extremely apologetic, took accountability for their error and provided me with a recovery plan to purchase and re-plant new trees. This was top notch service. The bottom line -- I had a good experience with the arborists who are very knowledgeable and seem to know what they are doing. When it comes time to do the work you should ALWAYS be present and monitoring all the work that is done on your trees. Additionally, I recommend requesting that an arborist come on site to check in with you before any trees are cut. read more

Prior to the work, Boutte sent a qualified arborist to speak with us about the work we wanted done. He showed up at the scheduled time (no annoying window, "we'll be there between 11 and never".) and was obviously very knowledgeable. The work crew that completed the job was very professional. If you live in the city of Atlanta and have ever had to have a tree removed, you know the pain in the @$$ the city arborist can be to receive a tree removal permit. We recently had a tree growing into our deck and Boutee Tree did a fantastic job start to finish helping us remove it. They came over and gave a VERY reasonable price quote for a full tree removal, and the handle the ENTIRE permitting process. Their price was HALF of what I was expecting to pay! Customer service was excellent, and the tree removal was great. They took down a large weeping willow and cleaned up everything from sticks to leaves. I tried for about a month to find a tree service in Atlanta to call me back--websites, emails, phone calls, etc.--but no one seemed interested in the pruning job I had. Luckily I was referred by a neighbor to Boutte. Mark returned my call the same day and came out within a few days to inspect the job and give his recommendations. Mark's quote was a little higher (not too much) than others I received, but he also took a lot of time to put a detailed written plan together for each of the six or so very out of control trees we needed trimmed. In the end his experience and the confidence he inspired made us decide it was worth it to pay slightly more for this professional approach. While others simply wanted to use the scorched earth approach and be done with it, Mark had other ideas. The crew was out there in less than two weeks, whereas I was told a month or more by other companies. The job involved some power lines and Boutte handled everything with GA Power, shaped our crape myrtle and trimmed the dogwoods beautifully, and ended up making our property much more attractive than just clipping them as others proposed. Top notch customer service. Boutte was extremely prompt in answering all emails and phone calls. Everyone I dealt with was trustworthy, polite, and made this a breeze. Worst experience EVER and the last time I go with the most expensive bid assuming they'll be the best. Shut down my office and my tenants' offices for the day to take down a tree. The company FORGOT to get a permit. In fact - they didn't even know they didn't have a permit. My neighbor had to point that out to them mid job. Now I have pissed off tenants and neighbors. It was Saturday afternoon, and I was chatting on the phone after a relaxing brunch. I heard a terrible crash--one of the very large trees in my backyard had fallen towards my house and was hovering over my roof. It was caught in the branches of a large pine in my front yard, but it was only a matter of time before the that giant tree would fall on my house. I tried several emergency numbers and Boutte was the only service that picked up. An estimator was out to my house within 2 hours and they had a crew out a few hours after that. They had the tree safely down by 8PM that night. The price was fair given the work and the quick turn around. They did some impressive work--they needed a large crane to ensure that the tree, when they cut it down, didn't fall on my house. I appreciated that they could do such a big job on such short notice--I wouldn't have felt comfortable sleeping in my house with that tree hovering over my bedroom. read more

This is the 2nd time I have used Boutte Tree for Treework and I am (again) very impressed with the skilled workmanship, thoroughness & safety measures of the Boutte Tree Crews. I have used "other" Tree Companies before (choosing the lowest bid) and there is NO comparison - and in one case, a horrible accident almost occurred due to grandstanding and negligence! This time I had a major tree with difficult access to take down (plus lots of other lesser work) and Ricardo and his crew did excellent work on a potentially dangerous job and also cleared up ALL debris. I was a little nervous because they also had to take down part of my picket fence to access this tree, but they put it back together as it was. Sal came the next day to remove the pile of large logs at the bottom of my driveway and he also was excellent in skilled workmanship, thoroughness & safety measures with that huge truck with the giant pincers! I can't believe he even cleaned up the small pile of debris under the logs! They may be more expensive by a few hundred dollars but they have ALL the heavy-duty equipment needed to SAFELY, EFFICIENTLY and PROFESSIONALLY execute any job. Could not be happier. A tree fell on my house on Saturday. As you can imagine I was a bit shell shocked. The insurance company told me to get the tree removed and call them back; I didn't know where to turn. A friend recommended Boutte so I reached out to them over the weekend. I didn't expect a response but the team at Boutte was top notch - they were able to re-work their schedule and get a crane and crew to the house on Monday. By the end of the day the tree was removed from the roof and all of the debris was cleared away. Then they returned first thing on Tuesday morning to install a tarp over the damaged areas to beat the coming rain. I don't wish this experience on anyone but if you find yourself in a similar scenario, Boutte is your answer to a very big problem. Thank you! read more

Spectacularly disappointed by these guys. They were recommended by my gardener in MAY to assess a wooded area in my yard for potential storm damage. Thinking I'd get ahead of it... it took a month to get the initial assessment done and then three months to book an appointment to do the work - which of course ended up after the storms had hit and the tree damage done. Today I emailed to confirm they were still coming - and you guessed it, they can't make it! My neighbor and I contracted Boutte to take out a mass quantity of shrubs and 2 dead trees. They handled the permit for the dead trees (required in the city of Atlanta) which was a plus. Mark was on time coming out to the property twice to revise the estimates as we added more shrubs to the list. Virginia was quick with scheduling. Though, because they're busy it did take 3 weeks or so for the crew to do the job. In my case, that was completely fine. Tierson and 2 people did the entire job in less than 2 hours and the remaining stumps were ground the next day. Overall, it was an impressive execution. Boutte Tree took down a 38 inch sweetgum tree that was dropping limbs on our house. They had to use a crane to take the tree down. They were very careful positioning the crane to not damage our driveway and did minimal rutting in our yard (the crane weighs 13 tons). The guys taking down our tree where professional, quick, answered all my questions, super careful, and did a great job cleaning up all debris afterwards. Jay Parker came to our home to take a look at a gigantic oak tree right next to our house that was starting to look sick. He diagnosed it as failing due to beetle infestation and said the owner needed to take a look to see if they could handle removal of a tree that large. I didn't hear from them for over two weeks. Three? NOTHING. NOT EVEN A PHONE CALL. Then one day an estimate showed up in my email with a lame apology. No thanks. If your company isn't responsible enough to at least make a follow up phone call, don't think I'll trust you with a crane and a 100+ year old oak tree. **Owner responds four months later - can you feel my eyes rolling from here? Jay never told me it was "gonna be a while" - he told me he needed his boss to check the tree out, that he would be in touch within a few days, then vanished. I never knew where we stood in the process for three weeks, after being given very grave, sad, and frightening news about our tree. Crappy, no matter how you want to spin it. Dealt with these folks in 2014. Good stuff: The job started off well but didn't end well. Once we chose this company, we had trouble getting scheduled. However, these folks did a very good cutting two of our trees and pruning back one from the house. They had a strong knowledge of tree health and proper approach. The arborist was also able to point out a dying tree issue, which was major. The company contracted with a group of stump grinders, and these guys were great. Difficult Stuff: However, I had significant issues with the pickup of the tree logs, which were substantial given the size of the very large pine tree. The log pickup handoff did not go well at all, and took multiple days beyond when they promised. When the man finally came to pick up the logs, he did so hastily, and a log ended up slamming into the neighbor's yard. He also left deep scratch marks in the concrete in front of our yard with the claw-like tool. By this time, I had been calling the office and interfacing with them much more than I would have liked, trying to find out when the log pick-up would happen. I was just so glad to have the logs gone after complaints from the neighbors and slow drive-bys from the town's code enforcement police. Too, I had trouble with billing - I had to call and then email to get info on how to remit payment. This company is on the costlier side, so, I didn't expect to have these concerns. When it came time to do work at another property, I decided not to call them again. However, they will leave your tree situation healthy. So: Pros - Great knowledge of trees and great job with cutting. Cons - Scheduling was slow, pickup of logs was slow and not well done, and billing was not smooth. read more
