I wish I could write a raving review. As on the day i presented to Two Wells to complete a meet and greet, Matthew was lovely. He allowed me time and space and encouragement to feel confident in the dog i was choosing. Possibly to much, as he allowed me to stay for what ended up being two hours! As this was to be a second dog for my family, i expressed concerns for the 1 day return policy and he provided reassurances that he wanted the best for his dog and my family and would consider extending that policy and review in two weeks.
I left Two Wells that day with a plan for my beautiful new Cocker Spaniel x Poodle to be brought to me as Matthew had intentions to drive South of Adelaide later in the week. This was an amazing offer, and I was honestly awed by how much care Matthew had for his dogs, wanting to ensure the sale went well. I was so confident in his professionalism and word, that when asked to pay, I had no concerns in paying him in full on the day.
Sadly things started to go south after this time.
Due to no fault of Matthew, we made a new plan on meeting half way point earlier than planned due to poor weather, it was going to be a bout of bad weather and due to SA dog sale policy/law he would not be able to complete the sale if it was over 32 degrees for the dogs health. Completely understandable.
Matthew suggested we meet at 8PM at this halfway point, which became 830, which became 930PM. Matthew unfortuntely due to human error, forgot Ody's documentation, the items discussed and agreed to in the sale which would have helped Ody get settled in his new home such a blanket from the breeder, his bowl, and favourite toy.
Matt advised he would drop the documentation off another time. This was on the 3rd of November, and to cut a long story short, Matthew has still not provided me with the ability to change the microchip into my name, or Ody's documentation which is a part of sale at time of writing this review 25 days after paying for my dog.
Another concern outside of the missing documentation was at Ody's pup check it was revealed he had an umbilical hernia which had not been disclosed by Boutique Paws, or visible to myself due to Ody having hair covering that area. I contacted Matthew about this, as my understanding was this was a genetic fault and would be something the breeder would want to assist in fixing for the pup's welfare. Matthew advised via text "his hernia is non reducible and only a cosmetic thing, it won't cause any problems and doesnt have to to be fixed". This concerned me as the vet advised it can cause issues if left untreated in an adult dog.
It was also deduced from the screenshot of the vaccination status that Ody was likely not fully vaccinated as previously reassured by Matthew, and was only provided his second C3 and first C5 on the 3rd of December. Which unfortuntely means Ody is unable to go to more risky areas like Dog parks, or known risk areas until mid january when he will get his full vaccination status.
I do not want to be fully negative in this review, Matthew clearly has a clear love for the dogs, Ody has clearly been well socialised prior to coming to me, is great around my other dog, and my 7 & 9 year old nieces. Ody was already house trained at 3 months, with only limited training needed for encouragement in the new home.
If you do decide to get a dog from Boutique Paws, even with my experience i say go for it, But ensure you protect yourself, and your new pup and make sure you get all the aspects of the sale, prior to paying in full, and check the documentation prior to furnishing the full payment incase there are any surprises on health before payment.
** I hope to provide an update on this review when i finally get the documentation and able to just enjoy this beautiful new member of my family. ** read more
