Also, I have just moved houses, so I was on the search to find a new destination for my supplies. One thing that I really love about Yelp is that it point's me in the right direction constantly. I go to all the cool shops now. Places where locals love and want to share the love! And this brings me to P&K pets. This store is surprisingly big! From the street it looks like a pokey little store, but head on into it and it just keeps going! My only disappointment was that it doesn't really have a carpark (unless I missed it anywhere?), so I had to park in the pub carpark. But not too far of a walk to the store and not that this would deter me from going back. This store has such a huge selection of products for all different types of animals. Also, the animals that they sell look very happy and healthy. There are lizards, fish, bunnies, turtles, etc... I even saw two pet Kookaburras. Wow! As for dog food and toys, a brilliant selection with great brands to choose from. Well priced and they offer a 5% off when you join up as a member of the store. I signed up in a flash! Every dollar counts. They also pointed out that the discount only applies to full priced items. Fair enough. The staff are so super friendly and so happy to help! They even offered to help me carry my massive bag of dog food to the car. How sweet! They helped me find what I needed and offered me some great advice for my pets. Totally love this store and so happy to have found my new destination for pet gear near my new home!

I'm warning you right now - if you think that fish are easy to look after, you couldn't be more wrong. They require a lot more care than dogs or cats, will die on you at any sudden moment, and don't give you any love in return. Despite all this, the staff at P & K really know their stuff. They gave me all of the materials and equipment required to properly look after the fish and information on which fish live well together. I usually hate going in to pet stores and seeing a whole lot of puppies and kittens locked away in plastic boxes. Fortunately P & K Pets is an ethical pet shop, and they no longer sell kittens or puppies in the shop. Furthermore, they refuse to keep any pets in the store if the temperature is above 33 degrees celcius. It's comforting to know that these guys really care about the welfare of these animals, and if I am ever to buy another pet in the future, I'll know where I can get pets that are genuinely well looked after.

Either way, I have always enjoyed walking through pet shops and checking out all of the animals. Paws for Pets at Marden is small, but an enjoyable visit none the less. There really isn't anything super special about this pet store, other than it stocks most things you would need for your more common pets. They have a good range of pet 'accomodation' and some scratching posts for the kitties. I have tried them with my cats from time to time over the years, but I think they are snobs because they seem to prefer micro fibre suede or leather between their claws rather than tightly wound rope......bloody stuck up cats!

This pet store always has cute puppies or kittens to fawn over when I'm grabbing some cat food, and they have a loyalty card program so my tenth bag of cat nosh is free. The man who runs it is friendly and helpful and always has good advice when you have a random help my pet question. We miss you still, Cudi. Good luck in all that you do.

A shop that specialises in preservative free dog food.....did I or didn't I try the dog food on a mini piece of toast with a sprig of parsley for garnish? I did not try the dog food, but I have it on the authority of small pooch (who thoroughly enjoys licking his genitals) that it goes alright! So if you are concerned about your dog getting the raw end from the 'corporate machine' or the 'mans best friend mafia', get on to this place. The store also stocks doggie doors, squeeze toys and many other K9 related accessories that will make Rex look and feel dead sexy. Oh, by the way, I will get back to you on the 'Fart Factor' of the preservative free food....might be a deal breaker!

I buy her the best dog food I can find - sometimes I think she is provided with food better than what I buy myself. And yet she just looks at it, sniffs, and walks off. Then ten minutes later, she's chewing on the 'delicious' treats she's found when she has raided the kitty litter tray. I mean, WTF? But the food I've bought here she'll actually eat. She hasn't farted too much worse than she did before. I think time will tell about how good the food really is. Most of my pet experience is with cats, and you can really tell when they're eating good stuff, but it takes awhile to show a visible effect. I'm hoping that it's the same with dogs, and that she'll have a really nice clear coat after eating this stuff for awhile. I'll report back in a couple of months.

Long story short I saved myself a good thirty dollars because this store is the only one in Adelaide that randomly carries it so five stars for getting in super niche things essential to particular breeds. But what REALLY impressed me was the knowledge the staff had, they let us know about the puppy school they host which was under $100 for five classes (something most other dog stores don't do), gave me loads of tips about introducing my two dogs, tips about the breed and best yet they didn't pressure me to buy any dumb little add-ons at the counter (because like all pet owners we spend our rent money on stacks of dog toys as it is). Thanks to the team there it will be our local! Bring your dog in too they give out free cuddles

As I write this yelp one of my Cats (Samurai) is actually dribbling on my leg, an yet I don't throw him across the room yelling 'fly supercat', that is just how much of an animal guy I am! I often drop in to Petstock on the way home to pick up some stupidly expensive (but scientifically formulated) cat food and also to tap on the many fish tanks! It is a huge store, encompassing everything from food, toys, living quarters (doghouses) and many things that you look at and think "who the hell would buy that for their pet....it would look great on me!" The employees are all very knowledgeable and pet lovers themselves, so they are quite able to help make decisions on what is best for your little fido, nemo or Rum Tum Tugga. To be fair, as I don't have a pet (can't have one in a rental property) I have never actually bought anything from there although I have been tempted many times by the sweet little faces that look out at you from behind the glass. I am also kind of against pet stores because I believe there are plenty of animals at the RSPCA who have had hard lives and need some love. And you don't need to pay around $800 for them.... I asked a staff member what they were, she told me algae eaters - I took a chance on them, as they looked really interesting, and I knew I could find homes for them even if they weren't compatible with my fish, and took two of the 'algae eaters' home. Turned out they were a variety of Hemoloptera - lovely fish that don't grow too big, and sell for about ten times the price of an algae eater - and when I went back for the other three the next day they even gave me a discount on them... *bonus* :) That aside, I see a good stock of the regular fish. There's often a special on something, tetras, goldies or guppies, which probably reflects a discount they've gotten from the suppliers, but it never hurts to get a good bargain. Overall the store looks good - I don't pay a lot of attention to the rest of the livestock, unless the kids are with me, but they have a good range of animals and products.
