Beware of boarding your dog here! First we were told by the owner (Riley is not the owner anymore)…read morethat we were not allowed to come to the "boarding area" because they promoted pick ups only. I thought that was odd because who would not want to see the boarding facility first. They do NOT offer a 24/7 live cam which also led me to not trust them. I later talked to an employee van driver and he told me and my husband the dogs are kept in the garage in kennels, the bigger dogs are kept in the van in the garage with no air or ventilation AND-where it is dark. We were appalled and horrified. We called the Newport Beach Animal Control and found out Island Pooch doesn't even have a boarding license. Please do your research before you use ANY animal boarding. Island Pooch is definitely untrustworthy and does not care for animals if this is how they are boarding them.

It turned out that it wasn't that long, but anything could have happened - he was loose and could have been hit by a car, grabbed by a coyote, or picked up by someone not as kind as the people who found him. Imagine landing from a trip and turning on your phone to a message from a strange (but kind!) man with a Santa Barbara area code saying he had your dog that they'd found running scared in the street - my mom was hysterical. They tried to slough it off and when they knew how upset I was, both Kristen & her husband started using rather foul language - they were the ones who lost the dog! I also question if they are licensed to board dogs in a residential neighborhood. I was shocked to find out a day or so later they had asked my mom to pay the entire bill! Incredible nerve after putting her through that trauma. She paid it "as she was afraid they would sue her." I discussed with Kristen calmly and she agreed to reduce it by 50% and refund my mom the difference. Then she started trying to renegotiate and offered only 1 night off "per her business consultant." Kristen has tried to contact my mom repeatedly, including going to her home, after my mom has not responded and I have asked her not to several times, and this is definitely verging on elder abuse. My mom is so upset, she says she'll never travel or board him again. As of today, over 3 weeks later, still no refund to my mom for their incredible negligence. I also noticed, as Brian S. did, that other than my mom's review in Sept, before they lost Reggie and when we still liked & trusted them, all other reviews are very old and refer to the previous owners.

From the very beginning, Amie has been so patient, flexible with my schedule, and genuinely caring about Meatball's growth and overall wellness. We began with standard baseline training which gave us such a strong foundation. Those basics made it so much easier when I decided to move on to more advanced skills. One of the biggest things I have appreciated is that Amie did not just train Meatball, she also trained me. She taught me how to communicate better, be consistent, and really build a strong bond with my dog. Another amazing part of working with Amie is the community she has built. After private lessons, we have had the opportunity to join group classes and pack walks which will be so great for Meatball's socialization. She also goes above and beyond by offering support outside of in-person lessons. Whenever I have questions, she is always responsive via text and often sends helpful how-to videos, tips, and tricks that make a big difference in our progress. I truly cannot imagine what our training journey would have been like without Amie. She has made such a positive impact on both me and Meatball and I am so grateful for her dedication and support. Update: We recently completed a 5 week course with Amie for E-collar training. And before you judge, understand I was just like you. I had negative, judgemental thoughts about ecollars and looked down upon people who used them. I felt it was negative reinforcement, similar to physical punishement. I wanted my guy and I to have more freedom in our exploring, so I signed him up anyway, because I knew I could trust Amie. I had extreme anxiety about using the ecollar. I was scared I was going to irreversibly damage my dog's trust in me and injure him. After signing up and feeling apprehension I reached out to Amie who assured me, settings are low, we do things slowly and incorporate the collar similarly to verbal commands and/or leash pressure. She told me I wasn't alone in my thoughts and that she felt the same concerns when she started. Throughout the 5 weeks my relationship with my guy changed. He was following me without the stim, verbal commands or leash pressure. He checked in more frequently, came back on his own and was FREE. It is an absolutely freeing feeling allowing him to roam at a safe distance, knowing his recall is more secure and our trust in each other is greater. I CANNOT recommend Amie enough for you and your dog's needs!

She was the only female that I interviewed and I "gave her the job" based on that as I am a female business owner and like to to support my fellow ladies. I found communication turn around with her not as fast and consistent as I would've liked. She came the first two times to work with my dogs when I wasn't there, which was fine. I joined her for the next two and found that she didn't really have a thought out plan for the hour that I was paying for and I was feeling frustrated as her rates were higher than the other two trainers that I interviewed and I felt like I should be getting top notch service because of that. She always arrived a few minutes late but was always rushing out when the time was up, meaning if she was a few minutes late she didn't stay a few extra minutes. I ended up letting her go because of a bunch of different reasons but what was the last straw was I had a friend who wanted to meet her (possibly refer to her) and she was short with her because "our time was up". My friend was really put off by this unfriendly attitude. I asked for a refund and she charged me a $60 admin fee. I was surprised by this as she is not running a large enterprise with staff that would perhaps warrant this, it's just her. I have been running my own professional service business for 28 years. I have always given a free consultation and have never charged anyone for a refund. BTW she has in her agreement that she doesn't have to refund your money. I would never treat someone that way. I thought I would add this to the list of her reviews so people could hear about my experience.

I found Jessica through a google search which led me to her yelp page, once I found out more about the services she offered on her site, and that she was nearby I reached out for a quote via yelp. She was very responsive, was able to fit me in within a few days, very straight forward and notified me of what to expect and arriving before the appt to complete paperwork & review the groom service. I took Lucky in this morning, was greeted immediately, checked in and after Jessica assessed Lucky's condition she notified me that he had very matted fur and what she could do/not do depending on the severity of the fur once she started with the grooming, and what to expect from the groom. I like that she thoroughly informed me of the situation, what my options were and that it would cost more due to the added work to de-matt him and the sensitivities that lucky could experience so she would have to be even more meticulous with the grooming. I picked him up in 2.5 hours and she went though how he needed to be shaven all around because of how matted his fur was, where he could experience irritation (what else to expect) and if I need to take him to the vet due to further irritation because of the condition of his skin from the matted fur. Overall I was floored by her knowledge but also very personable nature (something I have not experienced with a previous groomer). I'm so much more informed (as I had inherited lucky and am a new pet owner, so still learning). She even honored the price she had originally quoted me at which I thought was extremely generous given the nature of the groom. I can't wait to have lucky come back to be groomed and well taken care of by Jessica!
