A sort of underwhelming bookstore. Perhaps in its heyday it was better but now it seemed more like…read morea small coffee shop that just happens to have a couple shelves of books rather than a proper bookstore. The selection was not too big, and primarily consisted of economics, government, or political science books. On top of this they seemed to be a bit on the dated side. The layout also made it a tad difficult to browse without feeling you're getting into somebodies personal business as the tables are right in the middle of the U of shelves, so if somebody is sitting at the tables you'll have to navigate quite close to them to see anything. They also have a passport photo section as they're right next to the passport office, which is convenient I guess. Prices seemed fair though and it was organized well. If I'm walking past I might swing on by, but given the plethora of fantastic used bookshops in dc i would rather go to, I don't see myself really going back very often

Unbenounced to me, the photo that I provided did not qualify, so I had to rush to get a new passport photo. The price for the photo was priced slightly higher, and I understood it is for the convenience. They also have a cafe, and I ordered a cafe latte while I was here. The cafw also has a few pastries and snacks They have tables and chairs outside on the brick sidewalk, which made for a relatively stress free experience. The folks who helped me with the photo was cordial, and there was literally no stress involved getting this part of the required photo done.

Too bad stored blankets were unavailable for sleepers wanting more warmth than their traveling companions. We had to make a second request for one. May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits.

I guess this review will be more about the actual bus stop than Megabus in general. Like most will…read moresay, when dealing with Megabus, definitely remember that you get what you pay for. If you set low expectations, then (hopefully) you will not be too disappointed. While I have not frequently used Megabus, I really appreciate that DC's Megabus stop is actually inside of Union Station. Well, it's on the uppermost level of the station, but you get what I'm saying. From my understanding, many Megabus stops typically are located in random parking lots and on sidewalks next to busy streets, so there is a little comfort knowing that you do not have to deal with this in DC. Maybe, you'll have to deal with this for your return trip. Also, since this stop is in a station, passengers will not be greatly exposed to the elements, like rain or snow. I thought Union Station had adequate signage for getting to the general bus departure area and knowing in which line to wait for the bus. If there is any confusion, this station has an attendant to ensure you wait in the correct line. Since the station has a monitored line and designated parking spaces for specific buses, the line moves in an ordered manner once the bus arrives. This is a much better option than having a massive crowd where the majority of folks are trying to get on the bus at the same time. While I do not anticipate taking Megabus on a regular basis, I think it's a great option (at least in DC) to take a last-minute trip. Something like doing DC-Philly by bus, and Philly-DC by train might be a great option if you want to save a few bucks and can book your tickets in advance.

An hour and a half past the scheduled departure time the bus still hadn't arrived. The dispatcher said it would be at least another hour and a half. We instead reluctantly took a much more expensive Lyft. On returning home, I wrote to Megabus requesting a refund of the two $35 tickets we didn't use. Their response was too bad, but no. An unusually unscrupulous business, in my experience.
