Excellent organic wine selection for such a small store, actually quite a bit more variety than much larger stores. I've found the employees all to be quite lovely and friendly. I've only been going here since CO-VID so I don't know what it was like before but they are quick to call up cashiers if the line gets more than a couple people deep. I can't say that I care enough about wine and spirit stores to bother writing a review but this place actually stood out enough for me to take the time to do this. Really weird vibes and rude cashiers. I had been going there regularly for months and every time I came in they gave me a hard time about my ID. I'm in my mid 20s and there is no reason to believe I'm under 21. One time they took about ten minutes looking at my girlfriends ID and glaring at us like we had done something wrong, fortunately there was a cop outside and I said I could go get them to verify verify it. I've also seen them get mad at people coming into the store at closing time, including one time where the guy slammed the door behind a customer. I should preface this by emphasizing that I never write reviews. However, the service and customer experience at this store is so terrible that I felt obligated to. I was treated poorly by a rude cashier who questioned the validity of my entirely valid driver's license. He called over one of his co-workers to further examine my ID, and she was also extremely rude. I was inclined to just leave without the wine I was buying. Even though this is less than a mile from my apartment, and conveniently right next to Safeway, I will not be back to give rude people my business. read more

When I'm in town I always stop to see what they have. The best price I've ever seen for Cupcake wine, Rum Haven coconut rum, and always fun mini airplane shooters. They have a great craft beer selection and lots of Colorado products! Staff is helpful when asked for advice. Store is clean and nicely spaced isles. I've had them special order for me and couldn't have been more helpful with getting in just what I wanted. Tons of parking in the Safeway parking lot. They even helped me carry out my stuff to my car. Really, nice people and a great experience. read more

Myself and my friend were both refused service due to the fact I had a vertical ID. I am 24 years of age, my friend is 38. This is a completely valid ID that I have used across the country. Didn't even look at the dates on it. Something I have never ever seen before. read more

This place is terrible. Walked in and they started asking us all these questions, including if we all had horizontal ID's. Everyone in my group was well over 21 and I never heard of any store ONLY accepting horizontal ID's and absolutely no vertical ones... So frustrating!! read more

Boulder Wine & Spirits on 28th / Iris is my favorite place in town to stop for beer or wine. It's not just the prices (which are great!), but the people who work there are terrific. I recently bought a bottle of Barbera there, a label I hadn't had before. My husband and I tried it for dinner that night, and we hated it. It just wasn't good. I put the cork back in, and took it back to the store. I asked them about their policy for returns - seems ridiculous to return wine that we'd tasted, but they didn't hesitate. The cashier told me to pick something else out if I liked, or offered me a refund. I explained that I didn't think the wine had turned or there was anything technically wrong with it, we just hadn't liked it. He responded, "That happens. You should be able to drink something you like." I think the prices are the best in town. They've had 12 packs of Stella Artois on "special" for $12.99 forever, plus I can get my favorite Mark West pinot noir for $8.99, and Castle Rock for $10.99. They'll order me a case of something if I want it, and automatically give 15% off (tho not if the wine is already on special). It's also so convenient, right next door to Safeway, so I can get everything done in one stop. read more

My favorite local liquor store. Excellent prices, especially on beer and wine. I often find myself on a budget for booze but can't really stand the "big brand" cheap stuff. Boulder Wine and Spirits saves the day with many excellent 10-14 dollar wines and many great beers in 12 packs for 12-14 dollars. There seems to be a good knowledge base on products without any pretentiousness too, which I like. Everyone I've dealt with has been friendly and cool. Except for a few of them, but I think they're just quiet. I also just found out they do wine tastings on Fridays and Saturdays. Nothing like getting offered free wine when I walk in to buy drinks. The one thing that would push me over to 5 stars would be some sort of "wine/beer of the week club" that I could get on board with to try new things and meet other afficionados/alcoholics. That said, this place is still pretty much the awesome sauce. Love it. read more

Boulder W&S happens to be close to my house so it's super-convenient when we need to get party supplies. That being said, they do have an awesome variety for a store of its size. I'm really impressed with their selection of wines and specialty beers. Surprisingly, their prices are better than most others in town. Not only the wines, but even the College picks (ie Coors Light, Mike's Hard, and the like) are cheap. All of the employees are so friendly and helpful - I know I can count on them for great recs when I'm being indecisive. read more

Best liquor store in town. -Best prices (far better than Liquor Mart) -Fantastic selection of $10-$20 wines -Very knowledgeable about wine! You don't need to go into that ridiculously overpriced store on Broadway and Alpine to find a good bottle. I kid you not, that store easily charges 20-25% more on the SAME bottle! Gastly. - Legit selection of hard liquor, and great selection of local microbrews. -Clean, bright, open space, next door to Safeway for any out-of-the-ordinary mixers. -Oh, and dog cookies for my dog. Perfect neighborhood store. If you're looking for that obscure cognac, you may still need to hit Liquor Mart, but for just about everything else, this place is far superior to the other shops in town. read more

Way overpriced compared to Hazels and others. Also poor customer service. I asked if I could throw away a cup in their trash can behind the counter, and was told no - it still had some water in it, and "it could mess up their trash" somehow. That's a first. I had a horrible experience here yesterday. I am from California, and even though I am 22, I have a vertical ID because I got my license renewed when I was 20, and it expires when I am 25. When I showed my license, the cashier said they could not serve me because of my vertical ID. The only words I were able to utter were "But I am 22, look at the date" when a female employee rushed over, cut me off, and told me in a rude, loud voice that I had to get out. This was in front of a line of customers. My boyfriend was also buying alcohol at the next register, and when she realized we were together, she had his cashier rip his card out, and tell us we needed to get out. I felt so humiliated, and I did absolutely nothing wrong. I can understand their policy, but I do not understand why she had to undermine me and make me feel like a criminal, when I am 22 and my ID was issued by the state of California. I walked out of the store shaking, and burst into tears a few minutes later because I was so shaken by the whole experience. I just don't understand why the situation had to be handled that way, I have never had a problem anywhere else. read more

The owner or manager treated my son and I like criminals when my 15 year old helped carry up a 12 pack of sawtooth ale. For being unaware that there was a nonposted rule against minors even touching a box that contained beer, we were treated to an embarrassing and patronizing lecture and then barred from buying any sawtooth. The bizarre part was their willingness to sell me any OTHER brand of beer. Time to work on those "people skills." read more

I cried tears of joy upon entering Boulder Wine & Spirits. I just moved to the area from Michigan and I am used to the Liquor Control Commission setting the prices for liquor. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could buy a 5th of Grey Goose for $19.99! Is this the norm in Colorado or is it just this store? Anyway, I got the Grey Goose, Disaranno, and Milagro Tequila (and some Sweet & Sour Mix) for a grand total of $84! The cashier must have thought I was crazy because I almost kissed him (I think my boyfriend was thinking of kissing him too!). I didn't check out the beer selection but I will definitely buy all my liquor from this location. read more

Fives stars simply for the staff. The inventory is pretty standard for better liquor stores in Boulder, but the staff really sets this place apart. the people here won't badger you if you're just looking, but if you're unsure of what you want they'll hang out until you find just what you're looking for. I've come in here looking for the perfect red wine to pair with roast duck and a beer sampler while sick of drinking winter beers, and left feeling like my money was well spent. I've also come in here with a handful of change and singles, trying to find something a little more palatable than PBR, and one of the people who work here stood around calculating sales tax so I could find something I could afford. Love these guys! Excellent selection, great service, and great pricing. They always have awesome specials (ex: 12-case of Sierra Nevada for $12, Fireside Whiskey for $23, Avery 6-packs for $8...the list goes on!), so you'll never feel ripped off when walking out of there because you know you got a good deal. They have a nice selection in beer and wine but when asked whether they can provide single bottles and cans like absolutely everybody else they brushed me off like I was asking a stupid question. I don't want to buy an entire sixpack all the time but instead prefer to get a mix of maybe three or four single cans or bottles. Everyone else provides it because it is a great service to the customer. They just seem to think that it's too much effort for them. So, we don't go there anymore. I think some of these other reviews are fake as there is no way this place has the "best prices in town". I use several other liquor stores too (from now on I will only use other stores besides this one) and almost all of them are cheaper. read more

The employees are so incredibly rude that I ended up leaving without the bottle of wine I came for. Definitely not going back; would give zero stars if possible. read more
