This place cured me! I had nasty recurrent ulcers in my eyes due to trauma. I went to 4 (FOUR) ophthalmologists and NOT A SINGLE ONE of them took the time to look at me and find the scar tissue causing the recurrent ulcers. I had PRK surgery with Boulder Eyes and could not be happier with my vision and experience. I didn't have terrible vision to start but definitely couldn't manage without contacts or glasses. Best decision I've ever made! Near sided with a stigmatism and Lasik fixed it. Dr Beyer and his team are friendly, courteous and professional. Dr Beyer personally returned a call while I was on a Cruise in Alaska. I began seeing double and no one could figure it out. I come here yearly for my eye exam. I am always treated with much respect from the front desk people and the doctor's. The doctors especially are very kind and it is obvious how much they love their job. All of my questions are answered honestly here and waiting time is minimal. However, the frames here are ridiculously expensive, insurance has never covered the entire price. You are better off requesting your prescription and getting your glasses elsewhere. So I loved that the lady who took my infor for phone consult was nice, answered all my questions. However she neglected to tell me for my in person consultation I would be charged $250. When there I told them I was unaware of a charge and was told it was free. Still had me pay. Agreed because I was told it was be put toward the lasik procedure. The who consultation was fast. And I was treated like I was all signed up. When I was there to see if I was a candidate and if I wanted to continue. The whole thing was a fast track to signing up. I then asked the surgeon why he doesn't do laser lasik and only does blades. He answered but it was just because I prefer it kind of answer. While doing my research I learned how much safer laser is than blade. And I'm worried about dry eyes after. And blade casues more dry eyes. So I go home. Its the day before surgery. And a lady calls and says my 250 no longer goes towards the total cost. I said why. She said because I didn't pay in cash. I explained no one told me anything about this. I told the front desk lady I wanted to pay in cash to get a discount. And yet they didnt bother to mention this. When I tried to explain. She wanted to have the original lady "call me and talk to me". I refused. Later called back and canceled everything. Told them they need better communication skills and I can't go with such an unprofessional company. So if you want to go with a money hungry, pushing ass, no communication company. My vision went from around 20/800 to 20/20 - what more can I say?! Between all the pre-op, post-op and check up visits I've probably met most of the staff and they're all plenty friendly with a professional bedside manner. Dr. Beyer himself is probably the most laid back of the bunch and is very pleasant as well as skilled. I truly felt like I was prepared and taken care of through the whole process of PRK surgery and recovery. Unfortunately I can't comment on price as I haven't compared it to other locations, but I can say that it was around $4K for custom PRK surgery in both eyes and included all office visits but not medication. If you're on the fence about the actual procedure, I can't recommend it enough. What's a few days of scratchy eyes (I was seriously fine with Advil - no prescription meds needed!) and lots of eyedrops compared to perfect vision for the rest of your life? read more

It was cool that they let me use both a Groupon and a Living Social Coupon. The office is nice and pleasant. The same can be said for my doctor. However, I called to order contacts from them and they would not price match. Rather, they would only price match 1-800-contacts so I ended up placing an order a Walgreens.com since I had a coupon. Initially there as an accidental mix up-with my prescription and that caused me some extra hassle. I'll leave that part of the story out because it's complicated. Luckily, someone from Boulder Eyes recognized the difficulties I was having and gave me a call to get everything sorted out. She went above and beyond to get to make sure I was a satisfied customer. I have Keratoconus - a degenerative eye condition, and this is the first facility that could ever help me with that problem. Over the last few years, I have been getting worse and worse correction due to the condition - ending in 20/30 vision. Dr. Beyer said he could help, and the results are fantastic. Already seeing 20/20 with correction and will get PRK in 5 months or so. A bit of a small miracle! They are very kind and patient at this facility. I felt great confidence in Dr. Beyer. He has great "bedside" manner and will make you fell very comfortable. The same with his staff. I highly recommend this facility. read more

Great experience! I've been suffering from eye pain, redness and tearing which I thought was related to a pinguecula (benign bump) and allergies. Dr. Beyer saw that I actually had an ulcer and proceeded to protect it with a contact and prescribed antibiotics. The coolest part was new technology they provided. They made plasma tears using my own spun down blood. Very pleased with Dr. Beyer's knowledge, cutting edge expertise and bed side manner. I'm switching opthamologist's as of today. read more

I wanted to make sure to wait for about a month before I wrote my review - that's about how long PRK takes to fully recover from. Yes, you can drive like a week later, but to really get your vision to 100% takes a while. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the results of the surgery - I can see very well, my eyes don't feel super dry even though I do have to still use drops a bit. The surgery itself was very quick, and Dr. Beyer was very good - professional, and knew how to calm me down just right (there is stuff coming at your eyes, and it is freaky). So far, my follow up appointments have been seamless; they get me in within a couple minutes of me getting there. The one negative of the place did cause quite a bit of stress for me. On the info sheet they gave me, it said that I was supposed to not wear soft contacts for a week prior to my pre-op (mine was the day before the surgery) and to start taking Acuvail drops 3 days prior to the surgery. I call in about a week in advance and talk to the receptionist about the Acuvail, and she asks which pharmacy I use, so it can be called in. Well, 4 days before the surgery, I stop by my pharmacy to pick up the drops... and they have nothing. Like, no one called in. With the pharmacist there, I phone the office, and get Dr. Beyer on the line - turns out I needed 3 types of drops, not 1, and I need to start them 1 day before the surgery. And really, when I show up to my pre-op (with a different doctor), he tells me he needs to prescribe the meds there. Not a huge deal - everything got sorted out, and I got my meds, but it was a BIG source of stress for me until I knew what was going on. It definitely could have been avoided if the paperwork they had was updated. read more

I am considering getting Lasik so I went in to Dr. Beyer's office to find out more about it. Since I am in college my biggest concern was money. I wish I would have known about them earlier!!! They offer a Lasik Layaway program where anything that you pay out of pocket can be applied to the cost of your surgery later!!! Such a great deal to help people who think they can't afford Lasik. Driving by the eye center I noticed on their sign treatment for keratoconus, which I have. New to Boulder, and surprised to see a specialist in town, I made an appointment. I went through the many tests one does with keratoconus, after which I met with Dr. Beyer, who said he could treat the disease with a combination of corneal collagen cross-linking and laser surgery. He suspected he could get my left eye (pretty bad astigmatism from the disease) to at least a correctable state with glasses or contacts, or even better. I left the office skeptical. I spent the next several weeks researching the protocol he had suggested, finding much support from a number of studies. Dr. Beyer also gave me the name of a reference patient, who had just completed the same treatment. This patient had a similar presentation to mine and was very satisfied with his results. I communicated with him one week and one month after surgery. At this point, I was ready to commit so scheduled the surgery. On the day of surgery, I was treated respectfully and cheerfully by every employee of the center. All my questions were addressed, as they had been in the weeks leading up to my decision, and the procedure was clearly explained. The corneal collagen cross-linking was completed first, followed by the laser procedure to improve my cornea. My sense during the treatment was that it was successful, I suspect in part due to the pre-surgery hypnosis I received from Tami at AttentionToLiving.com. I left the center optimistic and feeling I had been treated well. My next day follow-up with a colleague of Dr. Beyer's revealed that my recovery was remarkable. I presented with no pain, only slight discomfort, and no significant light sensitivity. He said he had never seen a patient with this procedure look so good one day after surgery. I followed carefully all instructions for medications and artificial tears, and today, one week after surgery, Dr. Beyer removed my contact lens bandage to reveal that my left eye vision uncorrected had improved to 20/60 from something like 20/400. A remarkable change that is sure to continue to improve as my eye stabilizes. For the first time in decades I can focus my left eye to clearly distinguish shapes and letters I could not make out a few short days ago. Clearly, this has been a successful venture. All of the staff at Boulder Eyes/Beyer LASIK have been cheerful, friendly, supportive, and professional. I can recommend them and Dr. Beyer without hesitation. read more

For those of you who know me well you know how poor my eyesight had always been. I started wearing glasses 18 years ago, switched to contacts which I had to stop wearing due to irritation and dry eye. I had lasik done here in Sept. of 2011. The lasik procedure went well, but then there was suppose to be a follow up visit 3 months down the road. The appointment was scheduled 3 months in advance. I left work early to get there on time. I got there 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time and checked in. 25 minutes of waiting, I reminded the receptionists that my appointment was scheduled 15 minutes ago. "The doctors busy...he's in performing lasik surgery." Basically, once they have your money,they could care less if you ever came back. All the follow up vists after the procedure don't cost the patient anything. They're included in the price of the operation. So, if they can see someone who's going to make them money, your time means nothing to them. After waiting 40 minutes and no one even wanting to acknoledge me as a former patient, I finally just walked out. Just remember...the doctor's time is all that matters...your time means nothing to them. read more

I had cataract surgery (both eyes at the same time) and Sympfony lenses inserted 2 days ago by Dr. Coco. Remarkably, I can see quite well both near and far. I had LASIK done with him about 3 years ago. My vision was moderately bad, around 5 diopters. I found his bedside manners pretty rushed -- it seemed like he had his 5-minute slot allotted for me, wanted to pat me on the shoulder and welcome me, and then get back to whatever other project he was working on for the day outside the office. Most of the rest of the staff were similar -- not particularly thoughtful or caring or interesting, just doing moderate-quality patient management while cranking people through for $5K a pop. A little bit funny, seeing that they're kind of a 'boutique' operation, based in Boulder, etc. I'd hate to see what the larger and cheaper places are like. That being said, my operation went off without a hitch, and my vision is great. My night vision is a little bit worse than it would be with a sharp & clean pair of glasses -- I get some streaks and can't see faint stars. During the day, it's sharp and beautiful. LASIK is not perfect -- be aware of all the tradeoffs -- but for me I'm certainly happy I got it. It wasn't life-changing at all, but it makes for one less thing to deal with, not having glasses. As for the doctor to do it, I'd go with someone local, since you're going to have a lot of follow-up appointments (probably 10 in total, start to finish). As for Dr. Beyer, besides his location, there was nothing particularly compelling to recommend (or un-recommend) him. One more thing: Beyer and his staff actually offered to FAKE THE DATE of my operation for insurance purposes, after I told them I was thinking of postponing it till the new year when I was on different insurance. WTF? "Oh, we do this all the time for people...," they said. SCAM ALERT!! When I got my LASIK done, Beyer was advertising a 'half off' special. The deal seemed a little slimy: basically, pay full price for LASIK now, and he gives you a coupon to send in. Then, in exactly 47 months, you can send the coupon to a PO Box in Grand Junction, and they'll allegedly write you a check for half the cost of your surgery (or about $2000 in my case). Pretty hokey, eh? But really true. This seemed legal but awfully slimy to me. I've waited about 40 months and... surprise! I just got a letter from the Colorado Attorney General's office telling me the whole thing was a scam. The company running the rebate program is broke, and the guy running it fled to Panama.The attorney general recovered a small amount of money -- so instead of my $2000, they are offering to send me a check for $160. I called Beyer and they claim it's not their fault (which is legally correct), but why in the world did they get involved with this shady deal, and bring their patients in to this pyramid scheme? I was skeptical but Beyer would not let me opt-out of the plan at the time of my surgery. This was Beyer's main promotional deal at the time I did my LASIK, and I and a lot of others got scammed out of thousands of dollars. I walked into Dr. Beyer's office with terrible -6.5 vision. Astigmatism. Keratoconus. 30+ years of expensive glasses and complicated contact lenses. A travel kit full of solutions and eyewear gear. Toil and trouble. After corneal cross-linking and PRK, I'm 20/20. Wham bam, easy peasy! No kidding. It's been a year and I still find it hard to believe. I couldn't be happier with the process and result. No correction needed at all anymore. Not even reading glasses and I'm 47 years old. Now I travel with little more than a toothbrush. I can see! Stay away! The worst customer service experience of my life. The reason I made an appointment was for a new contact prescription. While making the appointment, I mentioned that I would like to learn more about Lasik. I guess that was my mistake because I ended up seeing Dr. Beyer who (said this himself) doesn't do contacts. So after playing with my prescription for a while I had a full blown lasik consultation, which made the visit twice as long and kept me out of the office for the entire morning. When I checked out they made me complete a credit application for the $4,000 lasik procedure that I needed to make an appointment for in the next three months. Remember, I was hoping to learn more about it with like a brochure and some explanation, not sign up to do it right then and there. Unfortunately this is only where the fiasco begins. Usually, I order my contacts through 1800CONTACTS mostly because of convenience, but because they thought I was getting lasik, they ordered 6 month's worth for me. I walked out of there spending $266. The following Thursday I received a call that my contacts are ready to be picked up, but that they are only open until 5pm that day and the next before they will be closed for labor day weekend. When I arrived at 4:30 they were closed and I had no contacts for the next 4 days. SCAMMERS! read more

I wrote an email to their billing department and I believe they have taken care of it, no confirmation but they said that they would. I bought a groupon for an eye exam for $50. and then got a bill later for an additional $75 on top of that. Apparently an eye exam is only for glasses and not contacts. And no I don't mean buying glasses or contacts.. I just mean getting approved for contacts (which I have been wearing contacts for ten years). They did not tell me there would be additional charges! I would never have paid for the Groupon! Totally poor business and not upfront about the charges. I felt completely tricked. It is advertised as an eye-exam. What a terrible way to run a business. Americans Best Eyeglasses charges $75 for eye exam (an eye exam meaning an exam for contacts as well of course) and includes two pairs of glasses. Go there instead! I would never trust anyone like this to do lasik on me if they can't even be upfront about an eye exam. Don't do it! I am getting my Lasik done somewhere else for sure.. Craig obviously makes it up as he goes. Craig told me that if you have eye surgery when you are younger than 50 then you will probably have to have it done again, now he says if you are over 50 it probably won't work. Craig never discussed the term "presbyopia" and more than likely did not want to risk getting paid $4,000. Craig tells you he can fix anything but then when he can't he tells you glasses really aren't that bad. Obviously Craig forgets that he charges $4,000 so that you don't have to wear glasses. read more
