As it turns out, I would leave here with resourceful knowledge of the state parks and a new trailhead connecting to miles of Boulder City outdoor adventure. Throughout the years, I have explored Boulder City's parks and attractions. When I drove on US 93, I had been curious about this Nevada Welcome Center that sits off Nevada Way. After seeing so much of Boulder City, it was about time to check out the state welcome center. Although this is a Nevada Welcome Center, it is owned and managed by the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority. With that said it is a visitor center serving Nevada, Boulder City, and Las Vegas. This is one of the four Nevada Centers in Southern Nevada. From the perspective of a reviewer discussing the Visitor Center proper & adjacent hikes, it is best to separate the review into two sections 1: Visitor Center Proper and 2: Trailhead 1: Visitor Center Proper. Before touching on the facility, it is important to note that it has two major flaws. The first flaw is that it is closed on weekends when US 93 is flooded with drivers. The second flaw is that it sits on the opposite side of the US 93 traffic entering the state line. The Visitor Center is a long building parallel to a long parking lot that can handle a lot of vehicles including busses. It reminds me of a concession stand at a drive-in parking lot. The first thing that is noticeable is the "Welcome to Nevada" sign. This is a nice photo spot for a state sign pic. At the opposite end are clean rest rooms. The Visitor Center itself is in the center. It is essentially one room with a floor to ceiling window overlooking Lake Mead, a desk, "This is Boulder City" computer, and two walls of travel brochures. These 11 racks of brochures are the focal point of the Center. The racks feature brochures on the State of Nevada, cupouns, tours, shopping, recreation, parks, entertainment, and attractions. These brochures include directories of local malls, state parks as far north as Ely, and national parks. Over and above the brochures, one of the two knowledgeable and friendly women here made this an enjoyable learning experience as she answered my questions while I loaded up on brochures. Where the Visitor Center looks like a drive-in parking lot from the front, in the back it is a spectacular property that overlooks a dramatic vista of Lake Mead from a hill. Nearby are two banks of shaded picnic tables. This includes 16 shaded picnic tables to the right of the building. A few of them overlook Lake Mead. This is the only spot that I know of where you can enjoy a picnic overlooking Lake Mead off southbound US 93. Adjacent to the picnic tables is a short mult use trail that tunnels under US 93 to the River Mountains Loop Trail (RMLT). This will segue into the second part of my review. 2: As a Trailhead It is the additional role of a trailhead that I am giving it 4 stars. It connects to miles and miles of trails without crossing a major road thanks to the fact that it tunnels under US 93. Due to the Yelp character limit, I will brief. Here are some hikes that the short trail leads to: 1. Hemmingway Valley Park (short distance) 2. Red & Black Mountain via RMLT to River Mountain Trail. (moderate distance) 3. Teddy Bear Cholla Forest via RMLT (long) 4. Railroad Tunnel Trail via RMLT (long) 5. Bootleg Canyon via RMLT (long) 6. Boulder Beach via RMLT (long) & 7. Miles of hiking & biking on RMLT. There is more hiking opportunities when you exit the center and turn right onto Nevada Way. This is the hiking I did from here. A nice relatively hike up the Nevada Way hill rewarded me with a first-rate Lake Mead view from the high up Boulder City overlook. This was the prequel to hours of hiking. Just up the hill from the Visitor Center there are trails that lead into the wilderness of the Boulder City backcountry. This is where I spent around 4 hours enjoying the serenity and beauty of nature. The nice thing about using the Visitor Center as a trailhead is the parking lot. There was a perception that my vehicle was safe here. In conclusion I rate the Nevada Visitor Center 4 Stars. It does a great job serving as both a resource for the State and local parks and attractions and as a trailhead to miles and hours of Boulder City outdoor adventures.

My parents lived in Phoenix until 2021 before they moved to Lancaster, PA to be closer to their only kid, me. I had a wedding in Vegas on Saturday, July 6, 2019. I flew into Phoenix on night of June 30, spent 3 full days in my hometown, and then my dad drove us on July 4, and I flew out July 9. I had been to Vegas over a dozen times over the years, mainly in 90's & 2000's while living in Phoenix. Since living in the DC area, 2011-present, I visited 3 times, December 2013, July 2019 (wedding), & November 2019 (another wedding). I had been to the Welcome to Vegas sign a couple of times. When I was a kid in 1995 on my first trip to Vegas, we stayed at the Stardust Hotel. But Vegas has changed a lot since then, a lot of places from the old days. Stardust closed in 2006, and Frontier next door closed in 2007. New fancier hotels or other things take over. Funny thing speaking of America 250, Stardust opened on July 2, 1958, just in time for 4th of July that year. Welcome to Vegas sign is a must visit photo op when visiting. I've been there a few of the times. It's a must visit to try to get out there both day & night. At night the sign lights up. Day it's a different vibe, but both are cool times to visit. There's just enough parking between the north & southbound lanes of Las Vegas Blvd., where the sign is located. You may have to wait a little bit to get your photo in front as there could be a line of people waiting to get a selfie or photo. One year after the Stardust hotel opened, the Welcome to Vegas sign opened in 1959. It's always been considered the southern edge of the Vegas strip. Further south, you have McCarren International Airport runway very close to Las Vegas Blvd. and in the 50's was mainly just open desert but has been developed with shopping centers, etc. Hacienda Hotel was the southern most casino, just north of the Welcome to Vegas sign, from 1958 to 1996, and the much fancier Mandalay Bay Hotel opened its place in 1999. The interesting thing is that much of the Vegas Strip is in unincorporated Clark County and not actually in the City of Las Vegas. You aren't technically in Vegas proper for another 4 miles at Sahara Ave., at the far northern part of the Strip where Sahara Hotel is (southside still unincorporated) and north is where The Strat (Stratosphere) is actually in City of Las Vegas. But this Welcome to Vegas sign is a promotional sign and not an official city limits sign. On July 4, 2019, my parents & I took some photos of the Vegas sign that day. Likewise, got night pics from Vegas trip in November 2019. Overall, highly recommend a visit to Vegas sign both day & night.

So it really is NOT a walking distance from the Strip. And the mono-rail doesn't come this far south. So you either need a rental car. Or you need an Uber. Or to go on a tour. I brought copies of my travel contract & explained to the judge that I do 13 week contracts @ a time & it wouldn't make sense for me to change my license & plates for every state that I work in. So he lowered the fine & I paid it that day. It was dumb & I probably should have fought it more but I didn't. I had to go another time to prove that I had car insurance when I was pulled over once as I didn't have a current insurance card on me. That was an easy process. I've been for jury duty before which was a drag.....it's such a long day. When I did jury duty a few yrs ago they had a cafeteria area that I think had Capriotti's, there's a coffee shop right outside the courthouse. They have vending machines too. You will have to go thru security/metal detector upon arrival to the court house so NO weapons are allowed, you have to remove you belt, take things out of your pocket but ya don't need to take off your shoes...think airport security but NO TSA...lol There is a information desk after you pass thru security that can help direct you to where you need to go. This place is BIG with lots of floors. There is elevators, escalators & stairs. I was recently here as I was subpoenaed to court after my house was broken into & robbed. My neighbor had to go too because he went into her house after my house. We had to be there @ 10am but he wasn't seen @ 10am. We had to sit thru other cases so plan on being there for a couple of hours especially if your case isn't called right away and then the judge took a break & he was gone for @ least 45 minutes. What a wasted day as neither one of us needed to go up to speak, we did meet with the DA briefly & I gotta see the criminal in person & he looked much different in real life then on camera. If you're subpoenaed you can go down to the Victim's office & get paid $25 for the day & get reimbursed for mileage. Also if you park in the Fremont Street Parking garage (I believe that's the one) you will get reimbursed for parking but it is a little bit of a walk to the courthouse from there. Bring your parking ticket with you so it can get validated. There are plenty of bathrooms located throughout the court house. And guys "WEAR COURT APPROPRIATE CLOTHING" if you don't know what that is then Google it. It is not jeans, sneakers, sweatshirts, short skirts, shirts with your breasts hanging out, etc. I swear there were so many people in the courtroom I was recently in who were dressed inappropriately & there was one girl who was dressed like a prostitute. Make a good impression & be respectful of the judge & lawyers PLEASE. Oh & the views from some of the floors are amazing!! Good luck!

We made a reservation for a Friday tour a few days beforehand. Thankfully, we did because it was sold out. To make sure you are putting in the correct address just copy and paste directly from the business website. It was actually very easy to get there. Once you arrive, there is parking right in front of the general store and across the street. The location literally looks like it's out of a movie. In fact, several movies were filmed here, including 3000 miles to Graceland. Be sure to check in once you arrive and they will tell you where to wait for the tour. It is $20 each. They do take cash or card. There is a gift shop as well as some food and drinks for purchase. While you wait for your tour, you can look around the grounds which has old buildings as well as vehicles and other points of interest. The tour starts outside of the general store where the tour guide tells you some basic information. You then move inside for another presentation with photos and videos. The walk to the mine is roughly about a quarter mile. It is an easy walk, but it is not paved. The temperature inside the mine is about 68°. They do advise you to bring a light jacket, but I don't think one was really necessary. You spend roughly an hour inside the mine. The tour guide will show you different tools and actually use them and point out different types of rocks and mining techniques. It was very informational, but also fun at the same time. I highly recommend for all ages!

We got the basic tour which didn't include the internal tour, which me and my claustrophobia were honestly fine with that decision. The film was rather dated, but still interesting. The dam is MASSIVE! It's a little crazy walking along the top and taking in all the vantage points. It was cool to see people put water in their hands and the force of the wind coming up the dam was carrying it out of their hands. My youngest tried it and it was fun. I bet it's even more fun to walk across the top when the time difference is a factor. The staff is incredible, and they all commented on my youngest's Camp Halfblood shirt. Love how they all work the word "dam" into their sentences. It's hilarious. This place is definitely worth a stop when you're in the area!
