It also felt a little off that the charge wasn't mentioned when we spoke on the phone. The dollar amount isn't really the issue. What bothered me was that something seemed to flip in how I experienced the relationship. After years and many dozens of appointments, I had hoped that much history might leave a little room for grace around a one-time mistake. Instead, it suddenly felt much more transactional.
