I just had a great experience with Boulangers. I called at 4:35 today because both sinks in my kitchen's double sink were so backed up that the debris-strewn water was overflowing the drains and barely draining from them. Yuck!I! I spoke with "John" who said that after the call he was on, he would come over. He arrived at around 6:30 and left before 7. I was quoted $275 for the first 2 hours, and though the visit was much shorter than 2 hours, I would be paralyzed in my kitchen without my sink. He drove off without a word claiming he couldn't get the truck into the driveway. He stated (and this is s direct quote) "I don't care about your damn dishwasher." We have used Boulanger's for about 10yrs now. More recently we have had issues. I had Boulanger's come out to our home to repair a pipe in our basement. Jon who normally comes out is always so kind and respectful today he had a helper with him. Today he was very rude as we asked question. My husband showed the helper the shower issue. Afterwards my husband spoke to me about how "uncomfortable" he was made to feel from comment that were made from the helper. We are unsure what Boulanger's new employee selective process is, but we hope they find a new one as they will begin to lose long time customers like us. read more

My son was given a washer and dryer. The dryer is electric, which meant the gas outlet had to be capped. I called Boulanger's Plumbing and Heating. An appointment for this 10 minute job was made. An hour past the time of the appointment, I called. The owner told me his man was there and saw me but that I walked away from him. My 11', 6" x 11'. 6" kitchen is at the back of the house. A gravel driveway is laid in an "L" shape and surrounds the kitchen on 2 sides. Gravel driveways are noisy. A car or truck can be heard. The kitchen has two exterior walls. The wall over the driveway offers 96" by 44" of window of 8 feet wide by a yard plus 6" high. The wall over the short end of the driveway overlooks the deck and offers an unobstructed view of the stair from the driveway to the deck. Anyone entering the house from the rear must mount the deck and walk past the windows. When the visitor stands before the door, the visitor's face is clearly seen through glass that measures 35" H x 21" W. I spent most of the morning in the kitchen. However, as I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I went upstairs to my bathroom, which is in a gable over the kitchen. It's window is over the deck. I heard no sound of a vehicle on the gravel until the owner came who was angry and sarcastic. I came out and let him in through the cellar door. I mentioned to him that with all the glass, I would have seen his employee and if the employee came to the front door, it is accessed through an enclosed vestibule making anyone answering the door unseen until the door was opened. My only income is from Social Security and I am being charged more than I was told might be the cost. read more

The worst. Very nice techs came out for a broken pipe. Since it was after 5pm, we were told the job would cost more. All good so far. They capped off the water to the kitchen. The tech tells my husband that he or another tech will be out the next day. We will get a call from the manager about time. My husband said that he would be taking the day off to accommodate. Cut to the next day. No call, no plumber. No water. My husband calls and the woman that answers says no they are not coming today. He asks for the manager that I can hear on speaker practically laughing at him saying that he spoke to the tech and there is nothing available for weeks. The worst part? They charged us close to 300.00 dollars for less than an hours work. We got another plumber out who did the entire job quickly, efficiently and for a great rate. SHOUT OUT TO O'Connell oil. Boulanger's service men are reliable, skilled and always pleasant. They recently did maintenance work for me on two gas fired steam boilers, a mini split AC system and a gas fired furnace with air conditioning. Another worker replaced two gas hot water heaters. I recommend them whole heartedly! read more

Our old thermostat was not functioning: we'd set it at a temperature and the actual room temperature would not reach the desired temperature. We called Boulanger and explained what was wrong. They sent two guys who installed a new thermostat and within 30 minutes they were gone. We got a 171 dollar bill. However, the new thermostat was doing the same thing. We called them back and they sent the same two people. They looked around and after awhile determined that the problem was that the filter was not in the right spot, which they should have seen and fixed during the first visit. Within a matter of days, we received another bill charging 313.16 dollars on top of what we were already billed during the first visit! We are very disappointed as this is very unfair and demonstrates poor customer service. read more

made an appt for wed for a simple leak repair and since i live in a condo i asked that he park in a non-resident space. he arrived friday around noon, parked in a residents spot and when i mentioned i'd take grief he basically ignored me. i then suggested he look at the leak to verify it's from the wax ring. he declined, walked into the bathroom and proceeded to replace the wax ring, he was done 10 minutes later. since i was paying for the hour i asked him to look at a pedestal sink that was loose. one quick look and tells me there's nothing he can do, turns and heads for the door. i have to ask about billing. and then 2 hours later a neighbor shows up and complains that my plumber was in his spot. within 2 days i notice the leak is back, less but still there. i pay the bill and send a note describing what happened and who disappointed i was. . i received back a note acknowledging that ya maybe the service was below par and to reschedule. sadly the note didn't even include the name of whoever sent it which kind of surprised me. the rescheduled appt went well, a different plumber who actually did solve the issue, it seems the first plumber put in the wrong part. All was good until i received a 2nd bill for even more than the first and ignored that it was to actually do the work they we're supposed to do the first time. plumbing wise, yes, the job is done, finally and correctly (a wax ring), but i'll never use them again i have no faith in their abilities. followup yes the bill has been credited out. tyvm read more

Left work early to get back for a 5pm appointment for a quote on an HVAC replacement / upgrade. They never showed for the appointment, and never called. The following morning someone replied to our message, and we were told the person coming had forgotten. He came later that day and looked at the job, and told he'd do his best to get the quote out the following morning but he'd be going on vacation after that so we may not hear until he returned. We're now coming up on 3 weeks since the appointment with no quote or communication ever received since. Can't imagine they are responsive when you really need them if they can't even get a quote emailed out. I'd choose someone else. read more

After two calls to two other plumbers who never returned our calls, we were pleased to not only have someone pick on the other line right away, but they sent someone out same day. Our problem was resolved promptly and the gentleman who came out also offered (and did) fix our diverter spout without us asking. We appreciated that. Since I've been waiting literally for weeks for an explanation of charges on my invoice from Boulanger's Plumbing, I thought I would pass on my experience and warn others of their unethical business practices. I had Boulanger's Plumbing come to my home to repair a leaking tub faucet. This is a repair that I have done myself in my old home, but the set up in my new house was significantly different. I went as far as I was able on my own and then decided to call a professional, so that I didn't inadvertently cause damage and make a minor repair into something major. The plumber came out and the problem was exactly what I expected. The packing (the small rubber washers) had deteriorated and need replacing. It took him about 10 to 15 minutes all together to do the job. I received my bill and was charged a full hour of labor, $110, which I was expecting. This is a pretty standard practice for most plumbers. What I had a problem with was that I was charged $47.25 for "Materials and Equipment". The parts that were installed, two small rubber washers and two small springs, cost between $5 and $7. I called Boulanger's office for an explanation and was told that I would have to speak to the owner because he was the only person who could explain the charges. I waited 2 business days with no phone call, so I called again. I was then told that all invoice questions were answered in writing and I would get an explanation in the mail, which I did. "We want to address your concerns regarding the material cost included in your invoice. The cost of materials and equipment includes $7.50 for equipment (tools and sundries). Also, our minimum charge per hour is $142.50, however we only charge $115.00 for our Easthampton customers." So, the $47.25 includes $7.50 for equipment but there is no explanation of what the other $39.75 is for. Also, I was charge $110 for labor not $115. This prompted a call back for further explanation. I was told over the phone that "You should be thankful because we could have charged you more for labor, but we didn't." No. You either have a local rate or you don't. That has absolutely no bearing on the fact that you have overcharged me by almost $40 for parts. You don't get to claim a discounted local rate and then deliberately overcharge for parts to make up the difference. I was told I would get another written explanation and, of course, I did not. After waiting for over a week, I called and was told I would have to leave a message for the owner. Needless to say, he also refuses to return my phone call. I would strongly recommend that you avoid this company at all costs. You will be overcharged and if you try to get an explanation of invoiced charges, they will simply ignore your request. read more

I own a 3 unit apartment in the 413 . I had Boulanger come out and fix a leak in my 3rd kitchen sink. They came out and fixed it . I followed up with my tenants and they confirmed the work was done and it was no longer leaking. A few months later I was in the neighborhood of my property and stopped in. The 3rd floor tenant said the 3rd floor sink was leaking again. They showed me and it was clearly leaking. I called Boulanger's and said it was leaking again. The woman I spoke, whom was very nice, said the quickest she could get someone out was a week I said okay and notified my tenants to put a pot or something to capture the water in the meantime. I did mention that this was already worked on . She said she had record of it . I asked if the work was guaranteed and she replied yes for 12 months. She assured me that I should be covered since it was the same sink with the time period. They came out a week later and fixed it again. A few days later I got a bill in the mail. I quickly called and spoke to the same person. she said it must be a mistake and she'll notify the owner and he follow up in writing. A couple days later a got a one line letter in the mail stating it was a different issue with the invoiced attached. Immediately I called back and spoke to same woman and she said that doesn't make sense, I was on vacation last week. I'll have the owner call you. I got a call from the owner. He told me it was a different leak. I said but you already fixed the leak a few months ago in the same sink. He went on to say my tenant probably but drain-o down the drain and it heated up the pipes. 1st the sink was never clogged and 2nd don't lay blame. The right thing to do would be is stand by your work. I would have compromised and paid for the parts but there was no offer. If your not going to stand by your work what is your value as a professional? I won't use them again. read more

We just love these guys. They are prompt, kind, and best of all-- know what they are doing. Our hot water heater died on a particularly cold day recently, and they were incredibly responsive, sending out two guys asap. They were courteous and efficient, and didn't immediately jump to replacing the whole heater, but instead made some economical repairs. Boulanger's are reliable and trustworthy, and I always recommend them to friends and family without hesitation. You can't go wrong with hiring Boulanger's for any project, big or small! read more

Awful experience with these guys. They installed 2 new toilets for me (for roughly $225) and within about a week, one was leaking. So I called back and told them,..the woman on the phone was nice and said "oh, we'll come right out and fix that". I assumed that they were coming to fix it for free -especially since they SAY their work is guaranteed. HA! A week later I get a bill for another $140.00 from them - and they said that I must have broken my toilet in that week after they installed it. I tried and tried to speak with the owner about it - but he has gatekeepers. I even went in once to try to catch him in person - nope. Called and called but he was always "on another line". He never returned my calls. He just send me form letters saying that he was right and that I still owed him money. I just still can't believe that the owner of this company would never just talk to me about the issue. Finally the secretary said, "Look, what's your question?" And I said "I want to know why i am being charged another $140?" And she said "Because we charge $140 an hour". Forget it. Never. Ever. Hire Boulanger's. Ever. read more

Did very bad work on some waterers in my horse barn. Cut a pipe in a way they shouldn't have. 4-6 weeks later leaking. Didn't respond to my calls. Then, told I'd be contacted, but I wasn't. So I called them again, spoke with someone of seniority who clearly had no idea what the technician had even worked on. Very defensive and terrible tone on the phone. Talking to me like I didn't know what I was saying because I'm a woman. Yet, he hadn't even come out to see what was going on, so how does he know? Not to mention they over charged me for the first initial visit in the first place (shame on me for paying). I will NEVER use this company again, not only do they do poor work, they do not understand customer satisfaction, nor the decency to speak to other human beings politely. read more

I called Boulangers Plumbing because another Company (who I have dealt with before) said they were good, and I needed 2 clean-outs installed in my business (and the other Company did not do this type of work). they told me over the phone it was going to cost $300.00 for the first 2 hours, and if it was not done within the 2 hours then I would have to pay more. So I agreed and they came the next day to my store, Looked around for approximately 8 to 10 min, and told me they were going to have to go get parts (which I thought was a bit strange as I already told them what job needed to be done and I expected they would have already had the parts) but okay, So before they left I said How long do you think the whole job will take? (and one of the men replied to me about 4 hours) but depends, and I said to the man, and the cost is going to be $300.00 for 2 hours, so it is going to cost around $600.00 if it goes 4 hours, and the man said No!, and then he said this job is going to cost between $1300.00 to $1600.00, So I asked him if it is $300.00 for the 2 hours as he told me over the phone and he estimates the job to be about 4 hours then how is he getting $1300.00 to $1600.00 for this job???, and he said well you are going to have to pay for the parts. So I asked how much do the parts cost?, and at that point he looked down at the floor and would not make eye contact with me and looked nervous and then said I do not know I do not make the prices my boss does!!! and that I would have to talk to his boss about this, So I asked him to Please get his boss on the phone because the prices he was now giving to me were not the same prices I was told from the start of this over the phone! So he called his boss and was talking to him himself for a few min, and put me on the phone and i explained to the boss the situation (just as described above) and the boss then told me it is $142.50 (or something near that ) per hour per man and he sent 2 men, and I then told the boss that that was not the price I was quoted over the phone (the $300.00 for the 2 hours and I was expecting 1 man) and the man in my store then told me he was the pone I talked to over the phone, as I was speaking to his boss. I then told the boss that if he was not going to honor the deal we had for the $300.00 for the 2 hours then I was not going to do this job with his Company, and he said that is fine but you owe me $300.00 right now for coming down to my store, and I then told him I owe him absolutely nothing and that is exactly what he is going to get, and that I am not going to be paying him $300.00 at all. and he replied Really?and I replied back to him yes Really, and handed his worker his phone back which was used to call the boss. So about a month later I received a bill in the mail for $285.00, and I ignored it as I already told him I was not going to be paying this bill, and about a month after that I received another bill saying second notice for the $285.00, So I have written this review so others will not have something like this happen to them with this disreputable company, and I plan to call the better Business bureau tomorrow too and report this to them, I have perfect credit and I do not know if this could hurt my credit but I am just not going to be abused like this by this company and I am not going to pay them $300.00 for trying to cheat me and fail, I had this job done by another licensed plumber and the entire job cost me with parts $400.00 (and the plummer who did this job was alone only one man) and He was 68 years old, and did the job all by him self (and I have the receipts if any one would like to see them) and Boulanger's was trying to cheat me and take advantage of me, because I had a major flood in my store and was desperate, and they gave me a fair price over the phone then tried to switch it on me later on in person. and then wanted me to pay them $300.00 for the 10 min they were at my store (and they only looked around for about 3-5 min and the other 5 min they were just arguing with me about the prices, My advise to you is stay away from this company- the BOULANGERS- they are sneaky and not trust worthy!!!! I called on a Friday and asked for a quote on a new home we are building... I was told someone would call back. I called again the following Tuesday and finally spoke to a receptionist who gave me the number of the person who could give me a quote. When I spoke to that person he directed me back to the receptionist to leave my name and number... So they could call back. They finally called on Friday and said they would be out on Tuesday at 9 am. On Tuesday at 9:15 the person who was coming for the quote called explaining he was running late and asked for directions. I waited until 3:35 and called their office to find out what was going on. The receptionist called back 15 minutes later and explained the quote person had an emergency and would call me back the following morning to reschedule... 3 weeks now... This was our first time using Boulanger's and we are very pleased with the prompt, efficient and honest service. Our call was answered right away and they sent someone out the next day (less than 24 hours...) to replace our water heater. The technician was on time, courteous, and kept working until the job was done. The job was priced fairly. They did not try to make us sign up for protection plans, cleanings, or anything else that many other companies now push. INCOMPETENT SHYSTERS!!! Gouge customers, poor - if not deceptive - diagnostic abilities and overcharging!!! Repeat visits to fix what they failed to fix on the first two visits and charge for service calls each time! Used them in past to service rental properties & without incident so thought I was in good hands. After being a loyal customer giving them repeat business over multiple properties, they decided to take advantage of me this time and charge me for 3 service calls - within days - totaling in excess of $1200 for boiler repair, and I still have no heat. Invoice had no breakdown of parts vs. labor, etc. Rip off plus Absolutely no accountability or responsibility or guarantee of their work. HORRIBLE, DISHONEST OUTFIT & JOHN, THE OWNER, IS THE WORST ONE OF THEM ALL. Absolutely adamant and no regard for loyal customers. Used them way back in early 2000 and seem to recall they GOUGED me on the price back then too; I shouldn't have ever given them another chance. NEVER AGAIN!!! Just had a real, skilled, honest plumber in to diagnose and problem had nothing to do with what they "fixed" -- totally incompetent @ Boulanger!!! read more

Seven years ago we had a high efficiency gas boiler installed, never received any warranty, or user manuals. We phoned and wrote emails re this problem along with no CO alarm ever installed. Lots of promises, but no results. Motor fan stopped working, and seals on heat exchanger gave out. Now when we were having our airconditioner replaced, the mechanical contractor looked at our boiler, and said that the system was not installed properly, in that a secondary loop was not installed, and plastic exhaust was not properly sealed or glued. $4400 estimate to correct problems.. read more

Used both their air conditioning service and plumbing service for first time. I was able to get a very quick service call (same day) for the A/C and 3 days for the plumbing work. Both servicemen were on time. Time will tell regarding the quality of their work, but so far very satisfied. Their invoice for both jobs was received promptly and itemized, and as I knew the labor rate going in there was no surprises. read more

Watch out for these guys. I scheduled a plumber to come out and simply remove a garbage disposal. He came out in 2 days and showed up as planned. That was good. When I scheduled the appointment, I asked the woman that answered the phone what the hourly rate was and how long they expected the job would take. I was told the first hour was $142.50, and she thought it would take about 1 hour, which I agreed with. The plumber was at my house for 45 minutes and the actual work took about 30 minutes. Very simple and straightforward. When he finished, I was ready to settle up, but he said "they will send you an invoice". Two days later I receive the invoice, and the charge was $285. The amount of time was not detailed, but pretty clearly they were trying to charge me for 2 hours worth of labor. I sent them a letter detailing what was actually done and how long the job took, along with a check for $150. If you hire this company, be very careful about how they bill you. In my opinion, the way they tried to over-bill me on a simple job like this was pretty slimy. read more
