It sells things you might actually want and use like tea towels, or quality Knick knacks, and is a great place to bring people from out of town. I'm finally taking the time to leave an honest review, since the owner recently asked customers to…read moredo so. My experience with Lemon & Lavender has been disappointing, particularly given how the store presents itself. The staff generally come across as friendly at first, but I've personally had a few interactions that felt condescending and, at times, borderline rude. I have never been rude to any of the staff myself, so I've often left the store wondering why the tone of some interactions felt the way they did. One interaction in particular happened just the other day and has really stuck with me. I was paying for my purchase and jokingly said, "Don't you find this Needoh craze nutty?" This was after mentioning that I drive all over the city looking for Needohs for my child. The response I received, completely straight-faced, was essentially, "I wonder what's nuttier, the Needohs or the person running around the city." I was genuinely stunned. She later said she was joking, and I didn't make an issue of it at the time. I actually laughed it off and said, "Oh, don't worry, I am nutty for running around the city." But after I left, I couldn't believe that someone would feel comfortable speaking to a customer that way, particularly when that customer is standing there spending $50 on toys. And unfortunately, that isn't an isolated feeling. Almost every time I leave this store, I have the same thought: I don't really want to come back. My other major issue is the pricing. I have actually taken the time to compare Needoh and squishy prices at different stores across Toronto, and Lemon & Lavender, along with Mood, consistently comes out among the most expensive places I have found. Some items are priced at roughly double, triple, or even more than what I have seen elsewhere. I completely understand that an independent business has overhead and needs to make a profit. I have no problem paying somewhat more to support a local store. But there is a point where the markup becomes difficult to justify, especially when the same products can be found for significantly less elsewhere. I also understand that Needohs aren't always easy to find. That is actually part of the problem. My child loves them, and when there is a particular Needoh they really want, sometimes Lemon & Lavender is one of the few places where I can actually find it. That puts parents in the position of either paying the significantly higher price or leaving without the item their child wants. I have even had conversations in the store where I've mentioned that I find the prices expensive, only to have the staff immediately push back and tell me that it isn't true. But I have personally compared the prices at numerous stores. This isn't something I'm saying based on a feeling or assumption. The other issue for me is the owner's use of Instagram. I understand that social media is personal, and I have sympathy for anyone dealing with difficult family circumstances or the challenges of running a small business. But the store's Instagram is also the public face of the business, and I personally find the frequent posts about personal conflicts, negative comments, other local business owners, family difficulties, childcare, and other personal matters very off-putting. There have been instances where criticism or conflicts appear to be brought onto Instagram for thousands of followers to see, including calling out other businesses or people. Personally, I don't want to be involved in those kinds of personal disputes when I'm shopping at a children's toy and gift store. And unfortunately, I experienced this side of things myself. I previously contacted the owner politely about an issue I encountered during an online Needoh drop. I wasn't demanding anything or looking for compensation. I simply wanted to let her know that there had been an issue during checkout. I was subsequently blocked. That was particularly disappointing because constructive criticism and feedback are part of owning a business. I don't believe anyone deserves to be bullied or harassed, and I'm absolutely not advocating for that. But there is a big difference between bullying someone and politely pointing out a legitimate customer experience. Overall, I think Lemon & Lavender has a great concept and clearly appeals to a lot of children and parents. My own child loves Needohs, which is unfortunately why I occasionally still find myself shopping there despite my reservations. But between the prices, the customer-service experiences I've personally had, and the way the business is represented on social media, I have become much less inclined to support the store. This is simply my honest experience. The owner has asked customers to leave reviews, and I believe reviews should include the good and the bad -- not just the ones that are flattering.

But that is simply not the case when it comes to this lovely antique lighting store. It's a clean, organized shop run by a welcoming patron who knows a lot about the history of the area. It's not overly big, so things are easy to find-- glittery chandeliers, Tiffany style lamps, Art Deco wall sconces-- and nothing is caked in dust (you can actually SEE the lights!). Prices range depending on what you're looking for (as expected), but there's no problem finding the price as delicate tags hang about the room above you like snowflakes. David Anderson has curated very cool things from India: ikat pillows, mango wood furniture, diaries, stately doors from South India, auto rickshaw models, scarves, shawls et al. A few of their embroidered chairs are a bit over the top; they would enhance the trip that one takes when one consumes certain chemicals! A quick browse through and I picked out ikat pillows that I liked and they were well within my budget. I noticed that the prices are very fair and they have items at various price points. Roula, the store manager, was very friendly and facilitated my search and my trip back home with excellent directions! While a sign warning you that you are on camera serves as your only greeting ( the person at the counter in the back either "does not speak" or "leaves you alone to let you shop" depending on how you look at it.) Art of Demolition has a nice range of old eclectic stuff similar to what you would see at a flea market. Old license plates, records, and posters, as well as larger items such as chest coca cola coolers (they had a fairly nice one for 700$) are here as well. Recently, they did some spring cleaning/reorganizing so it is much easier to navigate the small space. If you like old odds and ends, The Art of Demolition may have that special something you were looking for.

So disappointed We…read morebought a beautiful new washer dryer for our condo from Home Depot expecting the high standards I was used to them having in the past. Our experience cost us an extra 600$ and over two weeks of duress. The first delivery date was cancelled because of the complete lack of and outdated communication between the delivery department and us and we had to wait another two weeks to have the appliance delivered. When it was delivered the delivery men were not allowed to turn off the water for us we had to call the concierge only to discover that our water tap was stuck and wouldn't turn. They had to leave the new appliance in our hallway and so were unable to take away our old unit because we would be without a washer dryer. The two young delivery men were, professional, gentlemen, and knowledgeable. They were put in an awkward situation of not being able to complete their task while having to leave us equally frustrated and angry due to the complete lack of functional communication logistics and protocol between when we bought our unit in store and when it was delivered. We now have to hire a plumber to install the washer dryer and take the old one away at our extra time and money. I would write the correct protocol for Home Depot but I am tired of doing someone else's homework without any compensation. I have made billions of dollars for corporations over the years by writing in on their guest services websites and I am done paying my hard earned money to do someone else's job. For what it cost us, next time I need an appliance I will buy American because the cost will be the same and the service will be better. Don't waste your money at Home Depot anymore. The old grey mare is not what it used to be.

I saw one I'd picked up was Queen and asked if that's what I use on a double bed as I thought I was looking for "standard" size. I know you use Queen duvets and duvet covers so why not pillows? She told me she thinks they're the same thing and it would fit my pillow case, etc. Then I get home and realize I bought 1 standard pillow and 1 queen pillow. Now I'm an idiot for not realizing this, but how didn't she? It's your big sale item advertised in the window and you don't know you have both sizes available? All sizes are thrown in on the same shelf? I'm allowed to be dumb about this stuff but you work at a bedding store and don't know there's a difference between standard and Queen pillows? Now I have 2 different size pillows on my bed and it will drive me crazy forever and ever :)

Funny how a small shop like this calls itself Linen World, while huge box stores try to make themselves sound all cute and snuggly with names like Linens 'n' Things. However, Linen World beat out the box stores when I was just recently trying to track down a good breakfast/TV table for a bedridden relative. It was the only place that had a breakfast table (essentially a tray with stubby little legs), and it was even on sale for $40. Granted, it was still a bit flimsy at that price, and the only one in the shop, but beggars can't be choosers.

Unless the rugs are hung on the wall, patterns/colours are a bit difficult to see. However, owner seemed really personable and can help you out!
