I initially called Mainely Events to see if they had or could recommend a balloon installer for a shower that I was throwing. After briefly talking with Liz, I ended up hiring them to execute and rent all the decor for the event. Liz was outstanding, she listened to my initial thoughts on what I envisioned and ran with it to create the most magical day for my friend's bridal shower! We never got anything and have called multiple times and left voicemails thinking they might have gotten the email wrong. Still no response. Don't waste your time.

    About a year ago, I had a pretty cruddy customer service experience with another party rental…read morecompany in the Greater Portland area, so I made a vow to try A Plus Party Rentals for my next big shindig. Pros: + I needed round, high-top, cocktail tables. At the other party rental place: $40. At A Plus Party Rental? $8. I KID YOU NOT. I don't understand this at all, but it's magical and I'll take it. Segue... + Generally speaking, their prices are always a bit cheaper than the other big party rental place in South Portland. Did I ever tell you the one about the $40 high-top cocktails? No? See above. + They had all the items I needed when I showed up. At the other party rental place, they hemmed and hawed with me about what I needed and when I needed it by. + Even though they weren't supposed to (and I hope this doesn't get them in trouble), the two young men in the "warehouse" area loaded all of our equipment in and out of our U-Haul. To sit back and watch them load made me feel like a princess... I did ask multiple times if I could help, and they very politely told me I didn't have to. They were respectful, they were responsible, and they were thoughtful - asked questions about what we were doing before the event, remembered who we were and asked about our event when we went to return everything, and even helped us clean the U-Haul after (knowing U-Haul fines for any piece of litter left in the bed or cab). + Every person I encountered - from the young men, to the woman in the office, to the man with the delivery truck (who I think was the owner) - was a rockstar at customer service. Accommodating, efficient, timely... I so appreciated being treated like a customer here, while at the other party rental place I was made to feel like a joke. Thank you, A Plus Party Rentals, for treating me like a human regardless of the size of my order! Cons: - For the life of her, the woman I was speaking to when I called could not understand me despite spelling everything out multiple times very slowly; as such my name and address were completely wrong when I got my receipt which I had to call a second and third time to have sent to me when they didn't send it the first and second time I called asking for it. - They are located REALLY off the beaten path. If you're throwing a party in Portland proper, it's quite the extra effort to get the stuff from A Plus Party Rentals and bring it back into town. All in all, these folks are worth your time if you like being treated with respect and saving money. Two things I know I appreciate always!

    I can't believe you would cancel a reservation with only TWO WEEKS BEFORE my event????? No phone…read morecall nothing but an email letting me know that we have to cancel due to staffing issues really???? I can come and get the tents and chairs and we can set it up ourselves. Why can't we do that?? I have a huge mouth and I will be telling anyone and everyone that will listen to me how useless Savvy Rental really is!!!!!!

    It's difficult to find words for how displeased I am with Savvy Event Rental. We had our tent,…read moretables, and chairs booked with them since November of 2021, and with 57 days until our October 1st wedding, they emailed my fiancé this past Friday afternoon to state that they had to cancel our tent, and if we wanted the tables and chairs we would need to pick up and return on our own. They alluded to being short staffed, which is very easy to understand given the times we're in, but left the email very vague and not entirely apologetic. They offered no alternative companies to reach out to, and didn't even list our names in the greeting of the email. It looked to be copied and pasted to every other 1-star reviewer who has had the same experience as us. Meanwhile, every other company we've reached out to has shown more empathy and help than the company we actually booked through, offering alternatives and expressing their sorries very genuinely. Despite being in crisis mode to find the things we need to hold our wedding for family and friends, I'm far more upset with the way Savvy has handled their business and their customers through all of this. They said they've "exhausted all options," but didn't bother to give us a heads up until they were certain they couldn't provide what we needed even though we paid a deposit and booked a year out. At the very least, a phone call with a sincere apology would have gone a longer way with me than what they've done. We didn't even get an in-person apology when we went to pick up our deposit refund at their storefront in Biddeford. I'm well aware that times are difficult for businesses at the moment and help is hard to come by. This, however, is no excuse for how they decided to handle their customer service and cancellations of the numerous large events they committed to for the remainder of the year. At this point, I'm just thankful that I wasn't one of the events that was cancelled 10-14 days out, as I can't imagine what those brides must be going through at this time. Bottom line, DO NOT utilize Savvy Event Rental unless you have a backup, and especially not if you're looking for any type of customer service or personable experience.
