Decent bourbon store for store picks if that's your thing. They cover most basic bases for spirits otherwise. I found their prices to be pretty standard and a bit higher than Total Wine or Costco etc. No really good deals in here at all and the selection is overall pretty mid. Meh. Beer and wine side is about the same really with a super, super small cigar humidor. Prices in there aren't too bad, but again, the selection for stogies is very limited. It's more to grab one in an emergency-type situation. Tons of free parking lot parking out front. Dont come here to be wow'd by great pricing or variety in selection, but they'll likely have any basics that you'd need for sure. read more

I have been coming into this bottle since I first opened! It's always been a wonderful shop with great employees! However, I have recently discovered their wide variety of THC/CBD seltzers! I have been in here more time since they carry me than I have been the entire time they've been open! Kenzie is in charge of the area that has all of them. She is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and remembers me every time I come in! Another person helped me today who I've seen in there before, but I failed to get her name. She was also extremely helpful and pointing out a few different And new products! I keep using! Because I cannot reiterate it enough how great this store and their employees are! Got home to find my bottle was leaking. The cap was busted. I had placed it on its side in my own basket, and find it hard to believe the check-out guy didn't notice it was leaking when he picked it up to ring up. Instead, he just put it back in without saying anything. The right side of the store has nicer people too. The left side is not as friendly. Will not go back. (Palmetto Liquor is nicer.) read more

Bottles has a great selection and is in a convenient location for the Old Village. We have found beers here from Michigan that we love and some very unique liquors. They have a great variety of beer and wine as well as spirits. They also have some single beers to create your own mix packs as well as a large small shot bottle collection. The spirits side of the store closes much earlier than the beer and wine side so be prepared for that if you are visiting after dinner time. read more

Really more like zero stars. My friends and I had gone for a walk and ended up walking much further than expected and realized we needed water. Bottles was the first store we walked by so we went in to buy water for our walk home. Fast forward to us checking out and only one out of three of us had our IDs on us (we didn't even have wallets with us on our walk) and the employee refused to sell the water to us. We were only buying water... no alcohol. Just water. But he said we all had to be 21 to purchase water from the store and because only one of us had our IDs he refused to sell to us. Not sure when you had to be 21 years old to buy water but it's truly beyond me that he would send away paying customers when zero laws would be broken. read more

Bottles is absolutely my last resort for wine, beer and booze. Sure, the one-stop shopping is convenient but the sales staff is rude, surly and full of attitude (and not in a good way). Total wine used to be my go to shop for alcohol but I've slowly converted to Bottles. One thing to note is I went to Total Wine and Bottles one day for individual beers to gift and some of the beers were 2-3 bucks more at Total Wine for an individual beer! Plus I like that Bottles is "slightly local" haha. Sign up for their Bottles membership. It's super easy. The rewards aren't great but you do get a 5 dollar gift card on your bday month. And every 100 dollars you spend, you get 5 dollars so 5 percent savings! The staff is pretty friendly and I like that they don't bother you too much but are also there for some helpful advice or recommendations. While it lacks the intimacy of a boutique wine seller like Graft, which doubles as a wine bar, or the architectural appeal of Edmund's Oast Exchange (EOX), it shines when matters of price and selection are factored in. More shelf space means more room to create price tiers for all major regions and varietals, from under $10 to those rare bottles that command ultra premium prices. Plus, you'll find sales and discounts on particular items that may persuade you to splurge on a new brand of Champagne or highly coveted West Coast Chardonnay or Pinot. The range of local beer from Charleston area breweries is also impressive, mainly in cans rather than bottles. There is a good section devoted to artisan breweries as well who specialize in wild fermented, barrel aged, and other more esoteric fermentation methods. And if you are the type of shopper who prefers privacy to hands on service, there is ample room here for aimless browsing. Not only does Bottles have a great selection of local beer and liquor, the store itself is locally owned! It's split up into 2 sections with beer and wine on one and liquor on the other. It's organized by local beer, then craft beer, and domestic beer. They also have a nice selection of mixers like local bloody mary mix, etc. They have tons of options and I feel like a kid in a candy store there! I've also heard they have great staff recommendations, so definitely check those out. *Covid operations* They are offering curbside pickup if you call or email your order ahead of time. I really enjoy stopping in here when I am in this area of CHS. They have a GIANT selection of wine and beer - everytime I stop in, I find something exciting and new! They also have a very wide range of prices, so you can get some of the cheaper beers on up to very pricey bottles! Most recently, I was on the hunt for a bottle of Retsina and the associate helped me find it, as well as recommended another highly rated wine (which I ended up buying for a Christmas gift - it was great)! Bottles felt like a middle-of-the-road bottle shop. My friend happened to drive by and I had noted its existence earlier in the day on Yelp so I requested a quick visit. I ran in looking for certain brews I couldn't find at home. I searched and circled for a while and eventually decided on a bottle from Breakside Brewery -- which is out of Portland but doesn't distribute to me. There was no one on the floor around to inquire for help re: the other bottles I wanted so I asked the cashier. She suggested I look in some bucket or something but I didn't feel like searching further so I said I'd pass. If you like Total Wine, you will like Bottles. Prices are slightly higher than Total Wine, but.....the inside is bigger, the selection is slightly larger. If you ask them to get a certain wine, they will do their best. You tend to forget that it's there due to its location, it's kind of hidden from the main road, so you have to look for it. Bottles is the only booze superstore east of the cooper. It's like a supermarket for alcoholics! I could spend hours perusing the shelves but, sometimes I know just what I'm looking for and get out of there before I blow my rent money playing the sudsy ponies. I recently came in looking for the Anderson Valley Fall Hornin. Not only did I find it with a wide selection of other Anderson Valley, they also had it on an end cap with a bunch of other pumpkin seasonals. I've always found the staff to be polite and helpful even offering suggestions when I was putting together a beer tasting for a friends birthday. Would I drive across town just for a standard bottle of vodka, not likely but, if you're ever looking for some real selection, Bottles is your one stop shop for all that is great. read more

Bottles is my two favorite stores in one. On the beer side, they carry a vast array of beers from all over, they offer rotating seasonal beers you can only find there, and they also do weekly beer tastings on Thursdays, when they feature a different craft beer label or labels at the growler station. I like that you can bring your growler from anywhere and they swap it out for a clean fresh "Bottles" growler, unlike other places that rinse what you brought in a sink and fill it. While mine are always clean and sanitized, I know that some people do not take the effort to clean a growler properly and it is good to know that they are going home with a fresh bottle full of delicious craft beer, not a skunky growler full of tainted beer. The employees on the beer side have been helpful and knowledgeable every time I have had any questions, and are always happy to share their opinions and guide you based on what you are looking for. This is a big store, but you can always easily find an employee should you need one, and I like that they do not stalk you down the aisles or chat you up unasked. I had an experience wherein I bought a variety of sake for a tasting party and it was all terrible. I love sake, but it is best fresh, and upon checking the labels, those I had chosen were well past their sell-by dates (by a year or more). I called to discuss the issue, and the manager explained that while the manufacturer told him the sake should still be good despite being past its prime, he would absolutely take it back and refund my money in full. This was an $80 refund, and I appreciate that Bottles stands up for its customers even when the manufacturer will not stand up for them. On another occasion, I contacted them trying to find a beer my husband fell in love with in Tampa called "Molson Golden". The Bottles representative I spoke with said he did not carry that one but would talk to the distributor and see if they could get it. He texted the distributor immediately and called me back within 10 minutes with the sad news that no, they could not get it, and the closest I could find it would be over 200 miles away. He recommended I contact the distributor directly. While I did not get the answer I wanted, I appreciate him going the extra mile and finding out the answer to my question so quickly. The liquor side is like a library of alcohol, carrying brands and flavors you can't find anywhere else, and while some of the more common brands may be sold elsewhere for a few cents less, the ability to pick up my husband's usual whiskey and my weirdo flavored vodka selection of the week in one trip makes it worth the few cents. It was at Bottles that I discovered Kai Lemongrass Ginger rice vodka and Yazi Ginger Vodka, which are two of my favorites that I have never seen at any other liquor store. Whichever side you shop, the staff is there if you need them, but they are not there to hard-sell. Stopped in here on our way through town so we had some hotel beers. I stopped in here a couple years ago as well. A large store that offers so much pertaining to alcohol, it's really hard to please the masses. In the parking lot we noticed a guy trying to carry as many growlers he could and nearly dropped one. When we walked into the store there was a tap takeover of some sort. Possibly Brooklyn Brewery. A small crowd was gathered around and growlers were being filled along with samples going left and right. Not too sure the excitement of it was that brewery. Stacks and stacks of beer everywhere, which can become sensory overload if you're in a hurry, which we kind of were. Took some time, but we found what we were looking for. Everything we can't get in North Carolina. At the register I asked about a certain beer and the employee said it was a great beer. I later realized after I purchased it, I tried that beer a couple years ago and it was ok. Maybe not a good decision. Overall experience here was ok. Employees seem to be pre-occupied with whatever they have going on at the time. Customer service really isn't a top priority. That's fine at times because being too pushy can be irritating. Whenever I'm in town, I will probably continue to visit here. read more

A guy literally got off of his ladder to come and help me find something and then recruited someone else to look it up while he went in the back and looked to see if they had anymore. The selection is great and probably some of the best prices for wine in Mt. P. The beer selection is also extremely vast from cans all the way to kegs. Then on top of that there is a liquor store connected on the other side. That makes this your one stop, go to booze shop in Mt. P. On a side note they do have a cigar selection but I didn't go on my last visit. If I recall from previous visits the selection isn't incredible and the prices are a bit high...but not what you're there for so. Go stock that 100 ft long bar you have at home or your giant wine cellar and pour one for me. read more

Bottles has a huge selection of liquor and the best prices you can find outside of a wholesale place like Costco. They've got a nice bourbon selection with prices that beat their West-of-the-Ashley discount alcohol competitor. I'm not a wine drinker but they have a huge selection and the staff is always willing to help you pick out something in your wheelhouse. What really sets Bottles apart for my money is the beer selection--it's hands down the best in town. They have shelf after shelf of brews from all over the US and the world, including multiple selections from all the nationally-distributed craft breweries, and a stockpile of every beer distributed by a Charleston brewery. If it's bottled or canned and distributed to the Southeast, odds are you're going to find it at Bottles. There's a selection of home brew supplies as well if you're a hobbyist and a growler station. I keep forgetting to bring a growler by so I haven't checked out what's on tap but they have about 10 or so on hand. They're also the best place in town to get kegs from the local and regional breweries. We got a small keg a couple of years ago for a gathering and the staff was very helpful in assisting with the selection of beer, pickup, and dropoff of the keg, tub, and ice. Note for out-of-staters: In SC, liquor stores close at 7 and are closed on Sundays. The wine and beer side is openly independently of the liquor side of the store but be aware if you're trying to buy booze on a Sunday. read more

Great selection of liquor, wine, and champagne. I've been able to find a specific brand of bourbon that a friend drinks, and discovered one of my favorite Prosecco's, Santomè. It's about 4 dollars more than my regular Cupcake Prosecco I buy, but I still always grab a bottle when I'm here b/c it's worth it. The staff is always so very helpful and knowledgeable. The staff here is great, always welcoming upon arrival, then as you shop they instantly engage again to see if you're needing help yet. There is a beer counter in the middle which they sell in growlers, pretty reasonably priced. I was inquiring for a certain type of beer and the staff knew exactly where the different ones were located and gave his recommendation. I love supporting local businesses, but I find myself straying from Bottles more and more recently. The craft beer selection is quite extensive and impressive, as is the wine selection (from what I can tell at least since I don't know as much about vino as I do about suds). However, the prices seem to be a bit steeper than you can find at other local brew stores, and the Bottles inventory appears to slant a bit more exclusively towards the higher end of the craft beer spectrum. I'm not saying I want to buy some PBR but I'd like to have a few more $3.99 or thereabout options in the 22oz bombers rather than all double digit price tags. Hey, I'm a baller on a budget! Also, Bottles seems to carry a bit less of the local selection brews than some other options in the area, though they seem to be improving as of late. As other reviewers have noted, you pretty much need to know what you want (or at least have a pretty good idea) when you step through the doors here. There are not a ton of shelf tags describing the product or giving beer advocate or wine spectator ratings and/or tasting notes. Furthermore, employees largely leave you be unless you make eye contact or seek out assistance. For me, I actually appreciate that as I don't want to get hounded as I'm perusing the aisles, but I can see how it could be a con for others. Of note, Bottles also offers free beer, wine, and spirit tastings on a weekly basis which is pretty cool (though I have yet to check one out). In the end, Bottles serves as a more than adequate bottle store though a bit on the pricey side and it does not come with a pre-packaged field guide. read more

We recently visited Bottles for the first time, and were not impressed on several levels. First, a petty complaint: The store is very oddly lit, with lights directly over the wine shelves. Rather than helping as intended, they strike the shopper right in the eyes and are distracting and uncomfortable. But our main complaint about this store is the utter lack of guidance for the shopper. It's broken out by country of origin, but the only supplemental information on the shelves are small signs that say something like, "Erin's pick." Even a paragraph explaining why Erin likes this particular vintage would be better than nothing, but since the shopper has no idea who Erin is or what her claim to fame is, these signs are essentially useless. Again, this could be overcome if ol' Erin was walking the store, giving shoppers advice, but alas, while we were there, no one was walking the store. The employees were standing near cash registers, waiting. As we left, I asked a male employee who looked to be somewhat in charge why the store didn't put up the little signs that indicate a vintage's rating by Wine Spectator magazine or other publications to help shoppers. He said the owner of the store is very savvy about wines and doesn't want signs like that cluttering up the shelves. I pointed out that not everyone is savvy about wines, and some of us need some help with descriptions of the vintage. He said that's what the staff was for. That would have been great if a single member of the staff had approached with anything resembling interest in our presence. Sure, Total Wines is a bit of a hike from Mt. Pleasant, but I've never shopped there without having at least one conversation initiated by an employee. And, they offer deals on their wines. What's amazing to me is that retailers don't understand why their businesses fail. read more

Now I preface this review acknowledging that i am a Clemson grad. I stopped by Bottles yesterday to get several nice bottles of wine for Christmas and the etched bottles of the South Carolina logo (palm tree and moon) and gamecock logo caught my eye. Very cool. I did not see any Clemson ones but I bought one of each for my stepson who is a pig South Carolina. They were $52 each so they weren't cheap but they were very cool and I thought worth the money. My initial thought was they were out of Clemson ones. NOPE!! As I was checking out, the mid 20s young man at the register was definitely not in the holiday spirit. I told him that I thought the bottles were cool and was wondering why they did not have a Clemson. His response was, with a serious deadpan face was "we hate Clemson". No other response and it was obvious that clarification was not necessary. I said "seriously?" He replied "yep!" I grab my wine and went out to the car. Now I am not a big fan of the gamecocks but these are the type of people that help solidify the arrogance and sheer terror of their program falling apart. I went back in and asked for the manager, He came out and really couldn't give a shit. I walked out the door and we will not go back there again. Yes, they have a great selection and decent pricing but if they are so arrogant and stupid as to not carry something just because of a grudge, that's pathetic. At $52 each, just imagine how much sales he is missing by not carrying the Clemson bottle. Especially because as most of you know, Clemson is an elite program and in the semi finals for the second year in a row while the team in Columbia continues to crumble like a saltine.
