Ended up going to the Edmonton Waste Management Centre at 250 Aurum rd. While the locations are convenient, the hours are not. And the rates are high. This is prone to make people grumpy about sublets who leave mattresses and appliances. I feel that a provincial/federal strategy is in order, similar to how batteries and tires are done where a deposit is made at the time of new purchase which is returned when the mattress is disposed of. Then there would be an incentive for people to get rid of their stuff and a willingness to put up with wait times and changing hours.

They take the sting out of the awkwardness and they are super efficient and friendly. You either drive right up to the window or one spot you bring the bottles in but it is never a big deal. The computer screen shows you what they are counting and you get your cash right away. The whole process is quick and easy. The staff are always especially friendly also!

However, with my bottle collection adding up in my basement decided was time to bring them in. Saw this place was like 5 minutes from my house and seemed to have some great feedback, so decided to go check them out. I went about 11am on a Monday and there was already a lineup of a couple of cars, but they actually moved fast and only took a couple of minutes before I was able to pull in. They have 2 outside windows, as well as 2 indoor stations. The people working were pretty fast, friendly and efficient. I was able to get in and out with my money in about 10 minutes (yes, I got the exact amount), but I have to note that all my bottles/cans were separated and labeled in blue bags so that helped a lot. Going forward I will be bringing my bottles here, but I would probably just come on a weekday, as I'm guessing they must be really busy on weekends.

We bring empty milk containers, juice boxes and pop cans here. It's good to give rinse the containers so they don't smell too bad where you're bringing them over. They pretty much accept any recyclable drink containers here. We often collect our containers for about a month before we come here. This way you can minimize how many times you have to come here. An average garbage bag full of items usually gives us $5. Not much but it's something! Sometimes we just toss these items into our regular recycling bins. We're totally tossing away potential money! Drop off your items here and make some moola! To buy more drinks!
