The birds can be a bit annoying, but guess that comes with the great outdoors. Definitely a nice spot to chill, take a walk and get those steps in. This area feels safe and well maintained. When I went, there weren't too many people, so it was pretty peaceful. The trail can get busy and there are bathrooms along the way (I didn't use them though) There's plenty of parking here, but just be sure you leave on time for closing. I've heard they lock up and it can be an issue with getting out. (not sure how true this is but I won't chance it) There is more parking elsewhere with trail access too, I just personally haven't found it.

After entering the main entrance, follow the road and turn right where you will see a yellow locked gate. This is the beginning of the paved walking trail. There's plenty of parking at the main entrance, and the paved trail is perfect for walkers, runners, bikers, and even kids tagging along. It's basically a choose-your-own-adventure: bird watching, fishing (permit required), or just a casual picnic. Bonus perks: lots of porta potties and benches when you need a breather. If you're holding out for a real restroom, there's one just past the second baseball field--plan accordingly. Photo is attached to show where to locate this. Heads up: the main gate is closed every 2nd Tuesday of the month, but don't panic--you can still access the trail through the neighborhood entrance off Baltimore Drive. Hope you enjoy this walking trail as much as I do.

I remember spending a lot of time at the snack bar. Go figure. Anyways, banquet hall we were housed in for the event was spacious and well kept. The tables were in good order and the chairs comfortable enough. The building offered a stage, clean restrooms, an area for the caterer to set up, and a good sounds system. The staff at the front as you walk into the building were welcoming and friendly. There are several parking lots and one adjacent to the banquet hall we were in. The land escaping immediately around the building we were in was very nice, but I did notice that the gold course needed some TLC. The grass was very uneven and not well kept up.

They were group lessons, but I thought it would be OK for a beginner. We'll, I was wrong. The instructors were kind, but that's the best I can say about them. Kids spent 95% of the time waiting in line. Once it was their turn, they would only have a couple of opportunities to practice. And then in case they sucked, no feedback was provided to them. Nor did the instructors corrected them and showed how to improve their performance. I guess you get what you pay for, and it was very optimistic of me to expect good services for such a low price, but not to that extent! Also, my kid was verbally abused by a couple of other kids and it was completely ignored by either their parents or instructors.

I parked on the street, so I visited the recreation building for a bit, but there's a drive that goes up a hill to enter the actual parking lot. The park sport restrooms, a playground, picnic tables, and a large grassy area with a slight decline. I was most pleased with the trail that headed up a moderate hill pass a seasonal stream, and up and around the park, until it offers a scenic view from the top of the park. There were benches here and there and trash cans along the trail. It's a nice family park.

I found it to be a clean well maintained hidden gem with a grassy field a playground picnic tables and hiking trail with a cool footbridge that crosses the dry Creek. I'll definitely return in our rainy season to see the creek with water in it. The one thing I did not like or appreciate about this park is the same thing I don't like about many San Diego County Parks. The restroom offer no privacy for it's visitors because the stalls have no doors . This provided a scene that will forever be etched in my mind AND was equally embarrassing for the other restroom user. It also robbed the Park of the Five Star review it so richly deserved. The park is also home to a recreation Center which I did not visit. I took a small walk on the trail. My podiatrist instructed me to give up hiking. I have it up cold turkey with not even one hike on 5 years. I now go on nature walks. it has servede well.. There were dog walkers, fathers walking with sons, and moms with children on swings and slides. One thing I didn't see was a single form of wildlife. No birds, squirrels, butterflies. I don't recall even seeing a single ant. After my nice visit to the park . I went to New Century Buffet where the restroom wasichore aligned with my standards. I'll be back!

And the best part at least for badminton is that it is free. Well now you have to pay for parking as of January 5th, 2026, but once inside badminton is free, you just have to sign up. The table tennis, and volleyball, are part of clubs where I believe you have to be a member (San Diego table tennis club). This is just a great place for people to meet outside, as they have a lovely park with a fountain and nice walkways. It's a hidden gem for a recreation center. Get there early as the place fills up. If you are going for badminton you have to have your whole party there before you can sign up. The only not so great part was the introduction of paid parking for balboa park in general. But you know what we had it free since 1915 or something, so not horrible. Besides the proceeds from the parking fees will go to making balboa park even better, I hope.
