There is a little area that is enclosed with a heater similar to the one at the Fenway station. Unfortunately the heater was broken. A train comes by every 10-20 minutes at night, while in the mornings and noon it's every 5-8 minutes. The train around this area does go a little slow so leave for your destination early. Keep in mind if you get cold easily, don't sit by the doors. A breeze comes in every time they open the doors. If you sit in the middle or away from the doors the green line does heat up!

Except that out here, Reservoir station, Cleveland Circle Station and Chestnut Hill Avenue Station are within about five blocks of each other. An easy walk and maybe if you're riding the Green Line into the city, you'll have a quicker ride from Reservoir since there aren't as many stops between here and Kenmore. Reservoir is on the D branch of the Green Line. A solid above ground station, it has good cover to protect you from the elements, plenty of waiting area, audible and visual announcements of the next trains in both directions, and automated ticketing machines for purchasing a Charlie Ticket or adding value to your Charlie Card. The station is between Chestnut Hill (about a mile away, outbound) and Beaconsfield inbound. There are a number of bus connections upstairs.

It's lit and there are benches, which is nice. There is no ticket vending machine but you can buy your ticket on board if you get on the train at the conductor station. There is also a scanner there if you're using your Charlie Card. They do not have an announcement board for the next train but if the weather isn't completely cruddy, you can see in both directions easily that the train is coming. The Green Line trains are handicap-accessible. You just have to have the train driver see that he needs to do the ramp thing, which is really clever tech. Warning: Do not cross the tracks anywhere but at the marked crossing!

It travels down the middle of Commonwealth Avenue (aka Comm Ave) and ends at Boston College. There are 24 stations on the Green Line, which runs about six miles. A full run at a normal time will take about 45 minutes. Busier times are close to an hour. During rush hour, the trains run often but not often enough. It gets way too crowded. I've skipped boarding trains at Boylston for 20 minutes until there was enough room for me to squeeze on. Fortunately, I don't have to commute in Boston because this would suck. I'm sorry, fellow riders! And as for the riders, I do see the occasional dude offer his seat to a more senior rider. This doesn't happen often enough, especially when the sign says right there that the seat is reserved for handicapped or elderly! On our way back we had to ask multiple bus drivers which bus ours should be to get back into the center of Boston. Bit of a nightmare, really. Clearer signage is a definite must, esp on days when it's raining, which it was.

There is a ramp boarding area for those who need such assistance in boarding the quite high Green Line train cars. Brookline Village is on the D branch of the Green Line between Longwood (inbound) and Brookline Hills (outbound).

We then took the regular train, bought tickets at the desk and the workers were super friendly and helpful and told us where to go and it would tell us where our train track would be departing from. It was very bustling on a Thursday afternoon, once we got our track everyone ran to try to get a seat. Lots of stores and restaurants. For 3 adult one way tickets it was about $26 in total so a little over $8 a ticket one way for an adult. Located in the middle of town and not too far from hotels and public transportation. Took less than an hour to get to Foxborough and was pretty convenient.

The station was buzzing with people rushing to get to work and futbol fans trying to get to the stadium. Police were everywhere. World Cup volunteers and train station staff were very helpful and patient. We paid $85 for roundtrip train tickets from Boston to Foxborough. Normally, it's under $20. We booked the 9am train which is boarding group A. We started lining up to the side of South Station. They had free sunscreen, water, and bug repellent wipes for us. We didn't board until after 9:45am and it was chaotic. Some people were running towards the train instead of staying in an organized line - most of them were foreigners that don't believe in rules, manners and decorum which is beyond the station's control. The train was open seating. There are food stalls, shops, and pharmacy at South Station. The restrooms are not the cleanest as one would expect from a train station at a big city. We've also used this station to get to different parts of Boston before and after the World Cup. The trains were alright.

It was a mob scene trying to get into the station, and down the stairs, a serious bottle neck, which only got worse as each person had to scan their pass/tickets/credit cards to get through the turn styles. The city could seriously alleviate this botttle next after a game by simply opening the turn styles, I'm sure they're making plenty of money already. But overall, it was a good experience, got us home safely.

We didn't really know what to do at the start because there weren't any instructions of how to purchase a ticket. Apparently you can just put your card to the turnstile and it will credit you for a ride and open the gate. Ignore others jumping the gate. It's not right and others we talked to said eventually people get caught jumping the gate or drafting people through.
