I've lived in Hollywood for over 25 years and have visited Boston Johnny's several times throughout the years, hoping it would become my "local" spot. I actually stopped going for a while due to consistently poor service, but a few weeks ago I decided to bring some friends and give it another try. Unfortunately, it was the same disappointing experience. The bartender truly sets the tone for a place -- and in this case, it completely missed the mark. We were ignored until we flagged her down to place our food and drink order, despite there only being a handful of people there. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt and assume she was having an off day. It didn't improve. My friend ordered a simple tap beer and didn't receive it until halfway through her meal -- with no apology. It felt like pouring a draft beer was an inconvenience. To make matters worse, I handed the bartender $40 to cover a $15 tab, and she kept the change without clarification. We were also charged for drinks we never ordered or received, so definitely review your bill carefully. Another surprise: if you want lettuce, tomato, or onion on your burger, each item costs an additional $1. That felt excessive for basic toppings. The most concerning part? There was a cat walking across the bar and around the food service area. I love animals, but that's simply not appropriate in a food establishment. It's unfortunate because Boston Johnny's has the potential to be a fun local spot. However, the atmosphere feels unwelcoming and careless. I gave it three or four chances before writing this review, and the experience was consistently the same. I hope ownership takes notice before more locals decide not to return. Friday night, 6:10pm and the place is somewhat quiet. First time there and the vibe showed potential. We like local neighborhood bars. Well we sat for almost 10 minutes at the bar and nothing. One woman bartender and one guy behind the bar- no problem. The guy was preoccupied on the phone. But then finally as we thought she was heading our way, she turns back away to ask someone who just finished his beer. The bar is a good size. The parking is on the back. I found the staff very friendly. It's like a neighborhood bar with a mixed crowd. It was our first time here and we all had a good time. I ordered the chicken wings, medium. They were good juicy not dry. They tasted great. The bacon wrapped jalapeño were a little dark lol but good. We all ended up getting different types of wings and loving them. This was a fun place. It had two areas. The inside where a band was playing music. They had games inside like pool tables and darts. the atmosphere was fun. The outdoor side had a second bar. It was like a big patio. It was a pet friendly area. They had karaoke going. Came here multiple nights, first two were a lot of fun. Final night we were accosted by a random bartender, claiming we owed her money. We showed her credit card receipts from settling our bill, but she protested publicly and made quite the scene about the whole thing. Once we spoke to her, she claimed it could only be settled in cash Coming back, subsequent nights, clearly we were not skipping out on bar tabs, but she made the point very publicly for some reason to call us out. Wanting to get out of the house to watch Sunday Night Football, I stopped by for a drink and dinner, unsure what to expect. Maybe the best decision I made all weekend. The bar was relatively quiet, there were a large number of TV screens, and while the bartender was friendly, I definitely got a "you're not a regular here" vibe (to be fair, she was right). The beer selection was pretty standard for an American sports bar, but the food menu had decent variety. I took a bit of a gamble and ordered a grilled cod sandwich (by gamble, I mean it's not the kind of thing I order from a random bar I know nothing about) and ended up kind of stunned by how good it was! Great Dive Bar Ruined by an Unprofessional Owner Living in the area, My wife and I were excited when we stumbled across this low-key dive bar in South Florida--a true locals' hangout with charm. It's rough around the edges, sure, but that's part of the appeal. Inside, it's an old-school bar with a pool table, A/C, and live solo acts on some nights. The outside area is like someone's backyard garage: unfinished, a little beat-up, but welcoming in that "come-as-you-are" kind of way. One major highlight is the bartender/waitress. She's the heart and soul of this place. Friendly, attentive, busting her tail while the owner lounges at the edge of the bar, drink in hand. Her hustle stood out every time we visited--she remembered our drinks and even found time to chat. A true professional. We'd been twice before and decided to bring friends with us on our third visit for karaoke night. That's when things took a serious nosedive. The karaoke setup is decent, but the host seemed checked out--barely engaging, quiet, and uninterested. We later learned from the host herself that regulars who tipped were given more chances to sing. Sure enough, we watched some guests perform three or four times while we waited over three hours to go up once. Not a great way to attract or keep new customers. What followed was the real shocker. Our friend's wife--after a couple of drinks and her usual bubbly self--chatted with the owner. He took her inside to ask her opinion on why nobody was listening to the live entertainment. There were two people inside and over thirty outside, so she honestly told him the music was just too loud. That's it. A simple, harmless comment. But the owner took it personally and started arguing with her. Her husband went looking for her and ended up in a somewhat heated back-and-forth with the owner. I went looking and found my friend with the owner. I stayed out of it until I realized things weren't cooling off, so I stepped in to de-escalate. I wasn't drinking (I was the designated driver) and calmly tried to smooth things over. I even apologized for the comment, explained she was just tipsy and meant no harm, and shared that I'd owned a successful bar with karaoke and live entertainment for 13 years--I understood how tough it is to run one. Despite all that, the owner--clearly intoxicated--kept escalating. He told me eight times, loudly and with increasing aggression, "If you don't like it, get the f--- out!" He threw around profanity like it was punctuation, and even mocked my friend by plugging his ears, wagging his fingers, and mimicking, "It's too loud, it's too loud," like a schoolyard kid. It was bizarre. And frankly, embarrassing--for him. He also ranted that karaoke singers on the other side "aren't real entertainment" and called them "garbage" compared to the solo musician inside. Meanwhile, that solo act had only two people listening and wasn't particularly memorable. I tried to compliment the musician anyway, just to cool things down, but the owner wasn't interested in anything except being angry. This place had potential. A great vibe, hard-working staff, and a crowd that seemed to be having fun. But when the owner behaves like that--aggressive, unprofessional, and openly hostile to paying guests--it ruins everything. Here's some free advice, from one former bar owner to another: Don't ask drunk guests for advice if you can't handle the answer. If you're going to drink on the job, be the fun drunk--not the one chasing customers away. A successful bar builds community. That starts with you. Criticism--especially when it's honest--can be a gift. Learn from it. Sadly, our group of four won't be back. And like most folks, we'll share our experience. You had something great here--but until the attitude at the top changes, it's just another bar with wasted potential. read more

This place is hit and miss. When it's crowded, it's great. Especially when they have live music indoors on the stage. Or even on the outdoor patio area. Which is also the smoking part. Went to Johnny's for a Friday night drink and some liv music. The little band is surprisingly good and the ambiance is fabulous. There are pool tables, darts and karaoke on the outside. The service was quick, however I opened a tab and my card was kept at the register until I closed it - talk about old school. The wings and veggies were ok. Looked up neighborhood bars while in Fort Lauderdale/Holywood area. Boston Johnnys was one of several that came up.I looked at reviews, menu and pictures and decided to patronize Boston Johnnys! To say impressed, would be an understatement. Jason, the owner is hands on and present. Bar staff although swamped, exceptional. Food, ( chips guacamole and queso, pepperoni pizza, double cheeseburger..... came back next day,,, Bloody Mary, Jalapeño poppers, Four Alarm Chilli..) .....excellent!!!! Would recommend Boston Johnnys whole heartedly. I travel extensively for business and always search for local, neighborhood bars. This one will definitely be visited on my next trip to Ft Lauderdale. Found this place by doing a search on best bloody Mary's near me. Boston Johnnys popped up and since I was in the area, we decided to check it out. This is a great local dive bar. Ambience is as you would expect for a small dive bar. They have a bar and an outdoor patio plus pool tables, video games, a small stage and TVs everywhere. Seems like the place is full of locals and a bit of an older crowd, but we fid not feel unwelcome at all. We quickly quickly grabbed a table and the server came over right away. Since we came for bloody Mary's that's what we ordered along with some fish dip. Bloody Mary's were amazing. Apparently on Sundays They have a bloody Mary special for $7 so we hit on the right day! The Mary is served with a shrimp, a piece of delicious candied bacon, and a skewer with olive, mozzarella, artichoke and imitation crab. The bloody Mary was nice and spicy... a little bit too spicy for me, but my husband loved it. On my second round I asked him to leave out the Tabasco so it would be less spicy. Fish dip was a little bit sweet tasting for me but again my husband really enjoyed it. Since we live quite far away in Boca and this place is in Hollywood, we probably won't come back too often, but if I am in the area and in need of a good bloody Mary, I'll definitely drop in. If it were closer, I would visit more often for sure. Great little spot. Plus they have a cute little orange cat that they take care of. I've ducked in a handful of times now. I had Blackened Mahi and fries for lunch one time, and on a Sunday I visited with some pals to try the much ballyhooed Bloody Mary's and they were excellent. I previously enjoyed a delicious Coors Light and appreciate that it was served very cold. The place is Dixie-Highway atypical. Cleaner and larger and with more people then most of the other waterin' holes along Dixie. Big outdoor section with a bar and tables and such, too. Nice. Nice accent lighting, too. Big Chef Isaac was the grill master, and I've been enjoying the bounty of his cooking talents for many, many moons. I came to the bar at random, I'm 22 years old me and my girlfriend, we were like okay it's a chill place let's grab a drink, you don't understand how AMAZING the side/back of the bar, it's such a tranquil place to chill there's wii and the food was good the drinks were great, the pricing of the drinks were great for the prices and the owner was absolutely amazing. This is a great little place. The folks who bought it transformed it from a nasty dive to a really nice establishment. The bar is nice and big, they have pool tables, and the outside tiki area is wonderful!! Also, they have some fine quality musicians that really rock the house. If you like blues and rock, come here on a weekend. They have a little kitchen but it's nothing to write home about. The ONLY reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because it fails in the Boston department. If you're from Boston, like me, the obligatory sports stuff is up on the walls, and they have a Boston "beer", but don't come here to watch a game. When they first opened, one of the really big Sox games was on one of the screens but the sound was off and the place was really loud with folks who could care less. Also, I played some Dropkick Murphys, and a whole bunch of folks were actually angry about that! (It's a classic rock crowd) If you want a place with a true Boston feel, visit the Village Pump bar in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, or Boston's in Delray Beach. This place is biker-friendly too, btw. Another local 'sports' bar that has a WONDERFUL TIKI bar outside. If you like the smoky indoors bar, this one is not dirty dive but has the fun of a dive. Though outside you have an entire bar and picnic tables for you to scribble in sharpie. The staff is friendly and fun for a great drinking crowd. I came here to play billiards and have some drinks with friends. The tables are in poor condition but the bar staff is cool. They serve food too but I cannot speak for it's quality since I did not order anything. I could see the kitchen and the image kind of turned me off when I considered ordering something.
