Peter and Marisa made learning our wedding dance a true highlight for us. We knew we wanted our first dance to be something more personal than a standard routine, and Peter and Marisa created and taught us beautiful and stunning choreography to "Finish Line" by Elton John and Stevie Wonder that felt completely us. They thought carefully about creating beautiful moments for our professional photographers to capture, so every pose and transition looked as good in photos as it felt to dance. Over the course of 8 lessons, they were patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in getting every detail right, from the timing of the moves to the little moments that would make the dance feel meaningful rather than just memorized. All that preparation paid off on our wedding day and made for a memory that we'll treasure forever, one that followed us all the way to our honeymoon in Italy, where we couldn't resist taking a photo of the dip that we learned from them. If you're planning a wedding and want your first dance to be a genuine reflection of who you are as a couple, not just a rehearsed routine, we can't recommend Boston Ballroom highly enough. read more

We loved working with Peter and Marisa. We booked a package of ten lessons and it was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. The choreographed dance added a special and impactful element to the night. Also, it was so much fun for us as a couple leading up to the wedding. Our guests are still talking about the dance. Thank you! read more

Before booking Boston Ballroom for my husband's (then fiancé's) wedding dance lessons, I researched countless options and compared the packages each dance school offered. Looking back on my wedding day and our experience with Peter and Marissa, I can confidently say choosing Boston Ballroom was the best decision I made! From the very first lesson, Marissa and Peter made us feel comfortable and we laughed the entire time. My husband had no prior experience but Peter and Marissa built our foundation and had lots of patience when my husband would forget everything. Their teaching went far beyond just choreographing a wedding dance. They helped us build a deeper connection by focusing on leading, following, and trusting one another. As a result, our dance felt polished, elevated, and personal--not like we were just counting steps or waiting for the next move. My husband and I love to have fun and don't take ourselves too seriously, so our wedding guests were absolutely stunned when he pulled off lifts and spins like a pro! The level of care and professionalism Boston Ballroom provided was truly unmatched. They went above and beyond, coordinating with our venue, band, photographer, videographer, and day-of coordinator to ensure everything ran seamlessly. They even planned out the space we'd need and made sure no cameras would block our performance, allowing us to fully enjoy and immerse ourselves in the moment. The owner of our wedding venue personally told us that our dance was one of the best they had ever seen, and our family was in awe of how beautiful it was. You can see the excitement on everyone's faces in the pictures--I'll update this review with more photos once I receive the rest from our photographer. Another highlight of our wedding dance package was the inclusion of couples' dance classes, which we're so excited to use as date nights in the future! Marissa and Peter are not only incredibly talented instructors but also genuinely kind and thoughtful people. If you're looking for an unforgettable dance experience and complete peace of mind on your big day, look no further. We're beyond grateful to them for helping create a memory we'll cherish forever! read more

Marisa is an amazing instructor and put together a beautiful routine for us when we reached out for a last-minute session. Marisa is incredibly kind and thoughtful and made sure to walk through each step in an easy-to-learn way. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our lesson with Marisa, and we were extremely happy with the first dance she taught us for our wedding. read more

I had been looking for a dance studio for our wedding for months. I chose Boston Ballroom Dance because of their expertise, location, professionalism and flexibility. We LOVE that they do private lessons on the weekends, which fits with our busy schedules. The studio is bright and spacious with plenty of parking in back. They actually have two rooms for dance - one larger and one smaller. We sometimes practice in the smaller studio before our lesson begins. Our instructor, Marisa, is wonderful! When setting up our first appointment, Marisa spent a good 15 minutes on the phone with me answering all my questions. Her and Peter are the owners of the studio and you can tell they really love what they do. Every time we walk in, we are welcomed by them with smiling faces. My fiance never had dance lessons before, and I tend to lead (which I shouldn't), so Marisa had quite the challenge with us! We've had 6 lessons now and both of us feel very good about where we are in the dance for our wedding. Marisa has such a bubbly personality and is very encouraging and supportive when teaching. She was really helpful in choosing a song, as we weren't sure if we wanted to do a Rumba or a Waltz. Her direction is easy to understand and she makes it an enjoyable experience. We haven't tried the group lessons yet, but hope to soon. I highly recommend Boston Ballroom Dance! read more

I have considerable experience dealing with these folks both at this new studio and at their previous studio, and I found that the marginal improvement in my dancing wasn't worth putting up with their attitude. If you are interested in learning to dance socially, you might try BBDC, as the instructors are generally competent, but there are several other local studios offering great group and private lessons in a much friendlier atmosphere. If you are interested in competitive dancing, I would personally recommend avoiding BBDC altogether and head for another more reputable studio in the area. There are several experienced and knowledgeable instructors very close by (Newton/Waltham) who in my experience can provide a much more consistent, supportive, and positive learning environment. read more

The studio is a little hard to find but once you find it, it is small but very nice. We took the couples class and the instructor was not only clear and helpful but also gives background to the dances and ballroom so it makes more sense to do the steps. I would recommend this especially for people who are learning dances for their wedding. read more

Boston Ballroom has changed our lives! We started taking lessons there to be able to dance at our son's wedding. Since then they have masterfully choreographed the Father Daughter Dance for our two daughters. We continue to take dance lessons regularly with Marisa and Peter just for the fun of it! They treat us like family and we have seen so many happy couples and singles dancing there! We are very grateful that we found Boston Ballroom! read more

Boston Ballroom Dance Center is wonderful. They helped my father-in-law learn a memorable father-daughter-dance to do with my sister-in-law at her wedding, and helped choreograph her first dance with her husband. Both dances were tailored perfectly to their personalities. Peter has tons of patience for beginners which is great! My husband and I have been to the studio as well. We particularly loved when Peter and Marissa brought in a guest instructor from So You Think You Can Dance, Jean Marc Genereux, to teach samba. It was fantastic. The studio space is very pretty as well. read more

Peter and Marisa are the best around. Competition to Wedding dances. My wife and I have done both. The owners are not your average Dance Studio Owners: They are professional and personal beyond normal measure. No "Sales" pressures as with chain studios. Details, Patience and Encouragement and their best attributes. My wife and I love to work with them. read more

Our dance class has been taking weekly lessons from Peter and Marisa for almost two years and we all absolutely love it. The two of them are humorous and make the class very fun and worthwhile. They are very artistic and come up with fantastic group dance sequences for us to show at performances. Although we are a bunch of middle-aged couples who are all past our prime, they use the most simple language to make sure that we all completely understand the technique. It is such a joy to watch the demonstrations made by the two of them; they dance so well together that every time we can feel the true power of dance. read more

We discovered Peter and Marisa while looking for private lessons for our opening Waltz at our wedding. It was such a great adventure! In addition of being 2 amazing people, our teachers were patient (!), creative, and find for us the best choreography for our special moment. We are waiting for the video of our dance, but everyone around loved the moment, and we had a blast too!! read more

When my wife and I decided to take dance lessons to prepare for our wedding, I was lukewarm about the idea at best. I didn't want to dance without lessons, but I didn't love the idea of taking them either. The idea just didn't seem fun. It turned out that I was quite wrong. I came from a background in martial arts and combat sports, and while I knew nothing about dance, I knew a lot about good instruction. Peter and Marisa turned out to be some of the best instructors I've ever met. They are patient, clear, and an enormous pleasure to work with. My wife and I felt welcome every time we came, and we enjoyed the lessons so much that we kept dancing after our wedding. Only the birth of our first child got us out of the studio, and we plan to be back as soon as we're able. read more

This place is great! Marisa helped us put together the first dance for our wedding. She came up with a flexible routine that matched our song, skill level, and personalities. Though I was skeptical at first about the amount of time and commitment the lessons required, everything worked out perfectly. As another reviewer noted, even amidst the stress of life and planning a wedding, the dance lessons were an opportunity to breathe, connect with my partner, and have fun. Marisa was always able to explain both steps and concepts in accessible language and metaphors for non-dancers. It was such a treat to work with her. Both Peter and Marisa are very caring and personable. I would recommend this place hands down for wedding dances or just for the fun of it. read more

Peter and Marisa are both wonderfully energetic teachers. We spent over a year taking a couples dance lesson for our wedding and every time we attended dance we were greeted with smiles and a positive energy. While we likely weren't the best pupils as far as remembering our steps or practicing, they patiently taught us a presentable wedding dance which went over very well on our wedding day. Marisa was very patient with us and was a great teacher. She also spent one lesson by inviting our parents to attend and going over dance basics. She was so sweet with my mom and dad! They do a very good job of building rapport with their students and making them feel at ease. We would strongly suggest BBDC to any of our friends. read more

The owner of this studio was the rudest most unpleasant woman I've ever encountered in all my life. I called to inquire about dance lessons and was pressured to share information about my current teacher. When I said I'd prefer not to, she jumped down my throat, attacked and criticized me, suggested that I was probably not qualified to attend a group class, bashed other studios by name, refused to share any information with me about class size, and suggested the studio was too competitive for someone like me. Honestly I've never experienced such horrific treatment by a business owner in all my life. Try somewhere else... Trust me. You don't want to get involved with these people. read more

Last Christmas I was once again faced with the problem of what to buy my husband, I simply refused to buy another gift certificate just so he'd have something to open. We had interests that we shared but mostly everything we liked to do together were things we could only do in the nice weather. Long story short...I took a gamble and bought 6 private lessons. One year later and my husband says this was one of the best gifts he's ever received! Peter and Marisa are wonderful instructors and they enjoy what they do. This isn't just a business to them...this is a passion. They love to dance and they love to teach but more importantly they make it fun! We danced together at my daughters wedding for the first time and Peter and Marisa wouldn't give up until every step was perfect....and it was. The wedding is over but we're going to keep taking lessons. There's always something new to learn and it's great exercise. Group lessons are already formed or you can bring your own group in and make it a night out with friends. You won't be disappointed with Boston Ballroom in Newton. read more

Boston Ballroom Dance Center is excellent. My now wife and I took private lessons for our first dance at our wedding. Neither of us had any prior experience yet Marisa worked with us step-by-step to craft a beautiful dance. She was incredibly responsive to our preferences and ability. She made sure all the details were addressed including how we would enter and the exit the dance floor and how we would dance with our parents. Our first dance went perfectly and was a complete joy. We got so many rave reviews afterward and we have Marisa and Peter to thank. Even beyond the first dance, my wife and I now know basic steps to different types of dance that we can use for the rest of our lives. The time and effort was definitely worth it and I completely recommend Boston Ballroom Dance Center. read more

We've been taking lessons for a year and a half at Boston Ballroom Dance Center. We've taken group and private lessons and just love doing both. We have been having so much fun doing the lessons and practicing at home. We've been married 41 years and over the years have taken lessons from different dance studios. Our time with Peter and Marissa has been the best. We are really making progress especially since starting private lessons weekly in January. It's something we both look forward to every week! Whether you're young or old, dancing can be a great activity for a couple! We've also enjoyed the dance parties they have occasionally, with great food and music and often a dance demo by the experts! We highly recommend BBDC as THE best place to learn how to dance and have lots of fun while learning! read more

Of the two instructors, Peter is the better teacher, but he only taught us twice. Marisa was very rude to our group, and keeps insulting everyone when we endured, as we were eager to learn. In the middle of our ten sessions, she said that we were not serious learners because ladies wear stretchy pants and practice shoes (even professionals wear then when learning and practicing), while she was dressed the same. So we all started wearing skirts/dresses and latin shoes when she brought someone to sell dance shoes and skirts (we later found out her mother was the seller). Since most of us all ready own dance shoes, a few people bought their expensive shoes. On the day of our last group lesson, she sent our organizer an email claiming that some students were "not respectful enough", and cancelled our last lesson without refunding our prepaid class fee and extra practice fee. Apparently they found other people to occupy the studio and didn't have the decency to tell the truth and too greedy to want to keep the money they owe! How low can you be to not finish teaching one last hour that has already been paid for?! And inform not in face or over the phone, but through email on the day of the class?! I don't think she has the morale to be anyone's teacher. read more

There are two instructors and I hear Peter was marginally better. It was appalling how incredibly egotistical and rude Marisa was to my boyfriend and me - as well as our other classmates. We made it clear in our initial communication with them that we were true beginners - and just looking to be a little more comfortable on the dance floor at some upcoming weddings. During the lesson she was not approachable and did not appreciate individuals asking for clarification. We had one private lesson and one group lesson - and when we showed up for our third lesson we were told that we were not welcome in the group class and we would be "holding them back" because we were not serious learners. She also scowled when she saw I was in leggings and a blousy summer top, and in a disapproving insulting tone told me I did not understand basic etiquette. It was incredibly insulting and embarrassing since this was done in the lobby in front of all our classmates! Who doesn't understand basic etiquette or how to treat others? We will NEVER recommend this studio to anyone - and have since found another studio that was warm and welcoming of all students and levels! read more
