This is the magazine for KNPR (Nevada's Public Radio) and though you can pick it up free at various…read morelocations across the valley, it is worth becoming a member. Public Radio is a treasure and non profit I gladly support, not to have the magazine delivered. For the terrific publication they produce and the services NPR provides (taming road rage via listening to classical music on the 15, anyone?!) Highly respected journalists contribute, and editor Andrew Kiraly produces an interesting and diverse periodical every month. Local Las Vegas is covered from every angle imaginable: politics, movers and shakers, entertainment, fine food and drink to the ever changing story that is our city. Desert Companion is a nice looking publication, without being too slick and I highly anticipate its arrival in my mail. Their year-end, "Best of" issues blows all others out of the water and honors truly great local businesess. Again, it can be found for free in coffee and juice shops around the valley, but think about becoming a member. They have their finger on the pulse of all things Vegas and support the cultural scene important to many locals. Yelp 100 Challenge

This is a great newspaper that I've only seen at a few of the sports books on the strip. They…read moreactually get taken up, so, even as a local, have had times where I've wanted one and they're just gone for the current month. I like the articles. It's a sports newspaper and to be honest, it's impossible for me to follow sports stats, teams, leagues, etc. You miss a day and all your stats are off. But it has news on everything gaming: poker rooms, slot clubs, hotels and staff members you should know about. There are even articles about gaming hints, video poker, slot hosts. The article I have even has an article about the fading trend of Keno runners and how another piece of Vegas history is being lost by technology. Okay, someone needs to open a casino with all felt games, and manual coins, a casino that is run by people and not machines. The novelty alone will bring hoardes of locals in alone and bring back the senior crowd I'm betting. And make people- guest- wear shirts and ties on the floors. I could go on... A neat thing the paper does is that you can flip it over. It doesn't have a back cover. The second half of the paper is written upside down. I actually like that if you hate trying to catch the second half of the paper with your thumb to flip a page to the next. the second half of the paper is called Slots Today. I am enthralled by the column The Full Monti - it is well written, gives me insights on where and when and doesn't stick to PR releases. Hey, when I go to a locals casino, I like to make it a full day - including dining and films or a show. This guy takes on what I should see - he knows his films and personally sees them! It is not a review of a film from someone who 'thinks' they know how to do a good film review - it is an honest audience member reaction to a film, whether it be a low budget one or a blockbuster one! He is funny - has charm - and I love that bit about his dog, Zozo. We all need a Zozo in our lives - and Monti Rock III makes me happy when I read his weekly column. Then I start to read all the rest - where I should look in odds and wagers. This is a great newspaper - wish it was more widespread - and since I like holding a paper and reading it - please, can you print more copies - as the reviewer before me said - they get wiped out too quickly! Love Gaming Today - a real newspaper dedicated to the main industry of LV and all who live here! Keep those presses rolling - Gaming Today deserves more recognition!!

This magazine was great for Vegas show information. It also gets into local theater off the strip, the University, community groups. I'm always a fan of the arts, usually smaller productions. There's an overview and schedule of upcoming shows which is nice. I have since found it and bookmarked their online counterpart http://www.callbacknews.com/ Why I got the magazine was for 2 articles, the review of shows ont he strip, and a monthly update of what is coming to Vegas, changes of venues, revamped shows, etc. It's done by the same guy and he has his own web page: http://www.igoshows.com/ Teh Monthly Newsletter link is on the main page. It's a place where the latino community comes together to help one another. The staff is friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have about advertisements and prices etc. If you live in the east side then this is a great place to place your ad in the latino paper.

This is about an 8 page newsletter that costs $2.50 an issue…read more I lost most of you already. But, like Las Vegas Advisor, that I just reviewed, this is dense with information. To be honest, the newsletter has about 6 pages of advertisements. On a sidetrack, that has always confused me. With all the free newspapers and alternative weeklies (the ones that come out on Thursdays) , of course they run because of advertising. So why, why, why, do magazines charge you $6/ month? For glossy pages? To pay their columnists? No.... The reason to get this newsletter, come to think of it, I've only seen it sold in 2 places in town. anyways the big feature is right there on the front page. It's called the toke board and it's most likely for local casino dealers. But it's also for smart gamblers to see where the action is. I use it to gauge places I consider gambling at. It's a grid that lists the average tips dealers make at a casino during a given week. I don't know if this is directly taken from tax information. I can't imagine all the casinos getting together to publish this. Maybe a union keeps track of their employers... The only thing I can think of that would radically change one of the numbers (if we believe the consistency of all the others on the grid) is if some millionaire drops tips into 5 digits on a streak. Actually, the ads are worth mention. They tell you about tournaments, big deal. They also tell you about trivia that mostly casino folk trade and share. They even have a section called the break room, since that's where most gossip takes place. I used to be a dealer, gossip is actually important among casino workers. It's not just about why someone's late, called insick, got promoted, etc. It can be industry news.

I was so excited when I first moved here to hear a show that I recognized from home and well, now 5 years have passed and I would consider myself a jaded Las Vegas Entertainment snob. We have all the choices in the world for live entertainment, radio choices, concerts and much much more. I happened to find out about a show on KDWN called Live in Las Vegas with Dave and Chad... Let me premise this by telling you that I was never a talk radio guy EVER!! Why would I want to sit and listen to a bunch of dudes sit around and talk a bunch of nonsense and tell terrible jokes and talk about the most outrageous conspiracy theories. It is really quite simple.... The show is great, and it has helped me to stay connected as to not only world news but all the local happenings as well. I have actually had the pleasure of getting to know Dave and Chad from the show and it makes the show that much better because you come to realize that you really can bust their balls about all the conspiracy theories discussed and other things like Chad's undying love for the San Francisco 49ers, regardless that the closest they are coming to the super bowl anytime soon would be a Large bowl of Chili while watching the game from the comfort of their own homes. To make this quick easy and short... Beasley hosts a wide variety of stations and genre's but the 720 AM part of the group is awesome, in particular the Live in Las Vegas Show. if you have not listened in before I would definitely take a few hours to do so.
