We booked an appointment for my boyfriend, Tim, who had previously gone to places like Fantastic Sams and Supercuts (nothing wrong with them) , but wanted to try out a true barber experience--and we're so glad he did! Right from the beginning, the team was super communicative, even reaching out about earlier openings for his scheduled time. Becky, who was working the front desk, was incredibly friendly, kind, and helpful. She set a warm and welcoming tone right away. Tim's haircut was done by Jason, who was phenomenal. He was warm, personable, and genuinely funny--keeping a great conversation going while still showing exceptional focus and care in his technique. What really stood out to Tim was how intentional Jason was. He took the time to ask questions, understand exactly what Tim was envisioning, and made sure the cut matched his needs. I found this barber shop here on Yelp. I was looking for a spot that my son (5yrs old) could get a fohawk and a lightning bolt shaved on the side of his head. I came to the big island to get married. I came across Boss Cutz on Yelp. They immediately caught my attention because they were the highest rated barbershop in town. I have pretty high expectations when it comes to getting my haircut, and based on the ratings I knew I could trust them. I had the pleasure of getting cut by Jason the owner. I must say he's a very talented barber. I asked for a skin bald high fade and I got exactly that and much more. I couldn't thank him enough for making my hair look right on my wedding day. Hostile environment if your a haloe. The guy kept on talking about how he wanted a haloe to start something with him so he could beat the crap out of him. As a white foreigner sitting there getting my haircut by another worker. Made me uncomfortable. Also the barber that cut my hair did a horrible job. Doesn't know how to line above the ears. After reading the owners comment on my previous post - this was no where near out of my price range, however obviously up charged for having been haole in a shop full of local boys. When the cashier looked at me, hesitated before saying the cost and looked back at me I knew I was being played. Discrimination is obvious and the $55 you charged for a 5 minute 'hair cut' done by an apprentice who has worked for you, by his own word... for four months and did not even listen to what I asked for (i wanted the whole undercut down to the skin with no guard on the clippers and was given a fade that i will need to just have shaven down again in a few days... and will pay AT THE MOST $15 for, no matter where I go) is a complete fabrication to screw over someone you think is a dumb tourist. I am a little confused about all of the amazing reviews, other than possibly for skill. We read great things about Jason, so my husband scheduled a haircut with him, even though it was a little more than he normally would spend. I came with to the appointment. We have not encountered anyone else so cold at a salon/barber/service. Part of what makes the haircuts long is the time watching TV or videos on phones, etc. That would be more okay if there was interaction with the customer and a more warm personality. I heard my husband request something specific for his haircut, and it was brushed aside. I'm not sure if it was heard, because I watched [in horror] as the very opposite was done. I actually left the appointment, because I couldn't watch any longer. At the end of the day, the haircut was well done (whew!), but it was very different than what was requested and a rough experience. There was a lady also cutting hair who spent the appointment talking with the couple that came in. That was refreshing to see. read more

I came here by appointment with my messy & shaggy hair. Jeremiah cut my hair and completely transformed my look. He was great and sociable. Made an appointment two days before with Jeremiah. He calls me the day of to postpone the appointment by 30min saying he had a meeting. When I show up at the later time, the entire crew was playing RC cars outside in the parking lot while 3 customers were waiting inside. After coming in, Jeremiah made me sit in a chair and told Bubba to cut my hair instead. The haircut wasn't very good. Bubba was genuinely nice and patient but he was very inexperienced with Asian hair. We spent 75min total trying to do an undercut that didn't require any fades. In the end he was nice enough to give me a 25% off since there were parts of my hair he cut too short and we just couldn't fix. read more

Bosscutz finally has its new Yelp page. Unfortunately, because of the new location/name change, all the great feedback and reviews do not carry over. First things first, this is the best barbershop (for men) in Kona. No doubt about it. Jason is highly skilled, immensely thorough, and is only getting even better. He dedicates himself to his craft and is very passionate about it. Starting off his career in a different salon, he eventually decided to start his own shop and converted his garage at home to JBS Barber shop. Word spread, good haircuts were being seen, and his popularity grew - hence the need for the storefront location Bosscutz is currently at. With the new location, not only has all of the past clientele on board, but now there is a ton of foot traffic that sees the shop, so definitely do call in beforehand to make a reservation. Jason takes his time with cuts, and doesn't rush in any way. This is one of the things that makes him so much better than some other places- who rush and do a half ass job. Call first, make the reservation, then you don't have to sit and worry about how many people are in front of you. Jason can do just about anything you can come up with, from standard cuts to beard trimming to fades and line ups. The inside of the ship is new, comfortable, has ample seats to sit and relax, and he has two TVs on as well as magazines to peruse. The AC is crisp and it's always good fun to talk story with Jason and anyone else in the shop at the time. Women don't fret, directly across from Bosscutz is a full on salon and spa. 101 salon and spa is award winning and the best in town. There is plenty of parking (tight spaces but you'll do fine), and a plethora of dining options within the same plaza. I would recommend poke from Umekes on the corner. read more

receptionist is rude. knows nothing about customer service. came to apt at 130, barber was not in still on lunch. told her that appointment was 130 and her response was its only 134. we told her it's not fair for them to run late but your policy is late or no show is a $35 fee, which she denied of that policy. Barber came at 1:50pm. I also had some cans out for recycling that was outside of store for community use and she threw them in the trash I picked it out and she threw them away again. I took a pic of the store front and walked to my car and she came and took a photo of me while I was sitting with my kids. This lady was the worst ever. read more
